This PSG side beat Barcelona 5-1 in Paris last year & have invested 300 million in the team since then.

    =================

Only thing I’d say about that is they have improved their strength in depth, but they can’t put them all on the park at the same time. All the serious contenders for any trophy require strength in depth to cope with injuries etc and still put top quality on the park. It just means that with Barca, if Messi gets injured, you might face Denis Suarez instead.

With PSG, they’re (almost) replacing like for like.

  2. Hate watching our team getting gubbed like that but we all knew it would happen.

What gets me is the lack of strength in our team. We have let in a lot of goals against these teams not forgetting Astana that were quite frankly pathetic.

Interesting transfer window coming up even if we don’t get through to the EL.

  3. A nice reference in this article to the welcome Celtic received last night following the welcome we gave to PSG fans when they came to Glasgow.

“Celtic fans were greeted by an intense atmosphere at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening as Paris Saint-Germain ultras let off flares outside the ground.

PSG supporters showed their respect for Celtic before kick-off inside the stadium, unveiling a banner in French which read: ‘You’ll never be alone’ in reference to the Scottish champion’s famous anthem.

French newspaper Le Parisien reported it was in response to the friendly welcome PSG fans received at Celtic Park in the previous meeting between the two sides.”

Also, a protest by Munich fans about the prices they were charged in Brussels,

And, if you think our defending is bad, CSKA finally achieved their first CL shutout in 11 years (43 games) last night

  5. One thing about PSG is that they are a fabulous team, but Neymar is a Brazilian corner boy, he will never be a roll model, not one Celtic players hand did he shake after the game, so it looks like we got to him at Celtic Park, not that it affected his goal scoring, but he is one horrible little b…..d I saw some on here yesterday about hoping he breaks his leg ? I’d like to think we are above that surely.

Thank God for Sunday and a chance to put last night’s humiliation behind us. Then, a positive result against Anderlecht might stop me having horrible flashbacks-))

  7. Good morning from a bitterly cold central Éire.

While last night’s defeat will leave a sour taste in our mouths, we have to learn our lessons and move on. Onwards and upwards and lets focus on winning our fourth trophy of the Brendan era on Sunday. We’re almost sure of European football (barring a catastropic collapse against Anderlecht) so keep the faith Bhoys.

  8. The chances of a Celtic win last night, odds of 28 to 1.PSG are a very smart outfit, superior( not just Celtic) but other European sides.Anyone expecting

  10. What can we say , we got exactly what we feared we would get . PSG, BARCA . BAYERN . are on a different planet from us . Let’s just pick ourselves up and get on with doing what we do best ,become champions of Scotland , and all that goes with it . In Brendan Rodgers we have an excellent coach , and are lucky to have him , he has an excellent backroom team working behind him , if the board support him , and the scouting network do there jobs ,we will get even better . I look at Manchester City , Chelsea . Before the crown prince , and Abramovich came in , non entities of teams , bought success . I may be way out on my own here , but I wouldn,t like that for the celtic . We have earned our own wealth by fair means , we have channeled parts of our wealth to outside charities in keeping with our beginnings . We are respected wherever we go . We have a cup to win on Sunday , that should be our aim , move on , let our detractors have there moment , unlike them we have so much more to look forward to . A visit to Barca 7-0 A visit to Paris 7-1

A visit to the co-op bank £35- £40 million , that will do for now . HH

Celtic play Brechin in the SC. A great wee club established in 1906. Should we moan about the financial disparity or should Brechin refuse to play in such disadvantaged circumstances.

Its playing sensibly and keeping Tierney as close to the left CB and Lustig(before he went off) as close to the right CB as possible to keep it tight and make PSG work to find space. Then have 5 in midfield scrapping for everything, taking turns to support Dembele.

All too often we were caught with Dembele, TIerney, Mcgregor and Rogic all pressing them near the edge of their box! They play around them for fun and our guys at the back then naturally get dragged forward leaving gaping holes in behind which for a team like PSG takes 2-3 passes max to exploit.

Essentially Tierney sticks to his day job for the 90 minutes which is defending and any chance we get to attack is left to the attack minded players, of which we had enough.

Adapt to the circumstances as you alluded to yourself.

There are tactical explanations why they average 3.3 goals per game in France and got 5 and 7 against us.

  15. So now we have a couple of days to transform from being the minnows back to big fish again.

A couple of points -dont score against PSG first -it makes them angry and also lets give-up on the demonising of Neymar. He was on a mission to destroy last night . Think he feels Scottish teams disrespect him and he was clearly out to show that he is numero 1.

    There’s a difference.

Celtic are rich (comparatively) because they are successful.

PSG are successful because they are rich.

Furthermore the source of PSG’s wealth has no connection whatsoever with the Club, their fans, the country in which they play.

With respect I leave all that stuff to Brendan Rogers, your opinions are interesting, like many on here, but I’m very comfortable with the way Brendan is running the team tactically so far, and wish him and the boys all the best on Sunday.

  20. Still hurting but realistic.

I am also one of the ” it is what it is ” times change, football changes, the world changes, the ones who are suggesting we walk away cos it’s corrupt are really living in lala land, everything is corrupt, the whole world is corrupt, we play in a corrupt league which is administered by corrupt officials, should we walk away from that as well.

If we get into the EL, that will be well-earned, welcome, progress ……… what will the negatonian moaners do then … hahahahahahaha ….. and improving on the £48m last year will also help us to gradually progress under our fantastic manager….

Really looking forward to Sunday, unlike the ‘moaners’ ….. HH

Yes the Champions League GIg is hard and last nights hammering will not have helped anyones confidence who is connected with Celtic however, we must look forward and look to improve for me there is no other option. We will sell Dembele as he will want to move on to further his carreer so we must get as much for him as possible and use the money to rebuild the team starting at the back.Brendan himself must learn how to play the European game and how to set the team up to close down the space for the opposition.European football has moved on but Celtic should be loseing 12-1 on aggregate to any team. Football is basically a game of mistakes. The team who make the fewer invariably win.

In tennis you hear terms like ” forced error” and ” unforced error”.

In football, the ” pressing game” is the tactic to deny players time to pick their pass or to compose themselves for a shot.

Another tool in the box is quick, interchanging movement around the penalty area.

PSG, like Barca, are masters of this.

They did to us what we do to lesser teams.

They moved us around until we were dizzy. The defenders brains got frazzled by the movement and ended up totally demoralised.

3-1 was the crucial time in the game. Had we got a goal back then, we would have re- energised.

Didn’t happen, they got the next goal and after that it was a case of how many they wanted.

That situation happens often in football. We have been on both ends of it.

I agree that attacking PSG’s pedigree wasn’t Brendan’s finest moment.

” It is what it is”

    Well yes and no.

If you want an idea of what “is” read the latest SFM blog ” Who is Conning Whom” at

    https://www.sfm.scot/who-is-conning-whom/

What that narrative is saying is that what “is” is an SFA who will go out of their way to first preserve themselves, then those who make what “is” is.

There are 3 reactions to the SFM blog.

1.Och Auldheid on his hobby horse and tilting at windmills again. I’m only interested in what “is” on the park .

    2. There is definitely something not right, but it will never change, so no point stopping watching what I know is not how it should be and I’ll just accept what “is”, but good luck to the Auldheids that are making an effort.

    3. What “is” is not what is right and I’ll try to change it.

Each to his own but changing what “is” will be a long step by step process. So if anyone wants to take a step read the SFM blog.

If you are in category 1 or 2 after reading thanks for reading. If you don’tread it, thanks for getting to this point.

If you are category 3 and angry enough after reading, let Celtic know how you feel. Ask them to raise the issue with the SFA Compliance chappie. Ask them to ask the SFA if they are briefing against a member clubs interest and how can they justify it.

Changing what “is” requires a critical mass and the more who are visibly critical, the greater the mass.

There was an informal meeting with the SFSA chap and what they intend to do next was encouraging to hear, but I’ll not steal their thunder. There is a lot of hard work going on there .

The SFSA already has a large body of support, it represents a wide front of supporters so already has a degree of mass.

The SFA cannot continue to operate as it does and their “no raking over the coals – move on policy” faces another ST renewal barrier next April if they continue with that policy.

If ever there was an opportunity to change the what “is” in Scottish football it is in the coming 7 months.

If you are in category 1 or 2 think about joining category 3 and make a start by asking the questions the SFM blog poses.

When we put our own house in order we can join other countries whose clubs and supporters are as fed up with what “is” as we are.
