Partick Thistle 0-2 Celtic

172

Kris Commons’ goal was outrageous. It wasn’t so much a chance as a hopeful ball into the box. Kris jumped to cushion the ball on his chest, from them, Thistle had no chance. He let the ball drop before scooping it over the onrushing goalkeeper into the net.

No one else at Celtic could have scored this goal. Kris possesses the rarest of talents: the ability to create a chance out of nothing, and he’s better than anyone else we’ve got at converting chances too.

After playing 88 minutes yesterday Kris will be feeling it this morning as he’s a few weeks behind his team-mates as a result of his broken toe injury. It’s a big ask for him to be ready for the Champions League play-off round but I’d make an exception for him.

Loved Tom Rogic’s goal.

BMCUW – thanks for the recommendation. Will give it a birl (This trip I’ve designs on re-reading The Ragged Trouser Philantrophist, some George Mackay Brown, The Cartel and a Booby Moore biog –

If you haven’t read it befoe, The Dream of the Celt by Mario Vargas Llosa is great – a novel about Roger Casement. And The Year of the French by Thomas Flanagan is the best historical novel I’ve read, by miles. It deals with the 98 rising, but is set in Mayo.

  2. McInnes never missing a chance to criticize Celtic. An extra reason to enjoy our next victory over the Dons.

  3. Hamilton Tim,

You will receive the tickets automatically with no charges neebs.

Derek McInnes certainly has a lot to say for himself, a common trait in small men (dont mean in height though he is short).

If, heaven forfend, i was an aberdeen fan or part of the club and were drawn against Malmo, i would fancy my chances, thankfully im not, i believe Malmo may be in for a rude awakening if they think they’re better than us.

    Riskorrie,

You could always read Eddie Turnbull’s book-Having A Ball..

Available at your nearest pound shop.

Mind you your Congolese friends will wonder why you continuously piss yourself laughing..

He reckons he was a better manager than Jock Stein..

  6. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

I read the piece on McInnes’s comments regarding John Collins remarks in the Herald’s online edition and noted the following in the comments section:

    .

“This must be a different Derek McInnes then who said this after the Rijeka game “No-one will test our discipline domestically like that and their movement and swiftness of their play was excellent”. Which is very similar to John Collins comment.”

    .

Perhaps someone in the meeja or even JC himself should ask McInnes for clarification of what he meant.

Year of the French is a fantastic book. Good choice.

Turnbull pushed Jock’s teams quite hard at Hibs and Aberdeen. They still got scudded more often than not.

Best of the rest but not good enough to lick Jock’s boots, much less lace them.

Btw,Rachel wasn’t on my copy of my previous post to you. What’s your secret?

  10. HT,

    Depends neebs.

It’s usually a ticket that is sent out but because of the fancy pants new season cards it might just get activated.

Either way it’ll be automagically :)

Love rummaging through the ex-copyright classics on Kindle, and enjoyed a season of Walter Scott last summer, amongst others.

Irvine Welsh’s latest – A Good Ride – is recommended this summer. A great tale, typical Welsh, mixing side-splittingly funny with utterly obscene and a dash of downright gruesome, in the company of Juice Terry.

I read a great book recently on holiday, The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan. It’s about the plight of Australian POWs during World War ll working as Japanese slave labour on the Siam to Burma railway. The main character is an Aussie officer who is a doctor and his struggle to protect and save his men. It also highlights the pragmatic approach taken by the Americans after the war showing that while some of the guilty characters were hanged as war criminals (guards/ soldiers) the officers were often ignored and walked free.

    .

The book won the Booker prize.

Honestly, mate,no idea. I only attend about four times a year, and go where I’m told. Avoid the upper tier, you need a bliddy oxygen mask.

Positive a few regular attendees will answer that for you.

Btw,still got your post for Sneddoni. I’ll post it at the start of the new article.

  15. Senhores,

Thanks for the recommendations, I read The Narrow Road (fantastic book) and A Good Ride (Welsh redeems himself after some recent poorer fare) recently.

Which reminds me, didn’t there used to be a CQN “recommended read list” ? I looked at the link on here but it’s (rightly) all Celtica. Most of which I’ve already read.

However, keep ’em coming. What I don’t read this trip, I will the next.

  16. HT,

    Cheers neebs :)

    Boaby,

Yer right.Hibs did have some brilliant players and beat us in a few finals.

Maybe I’m being a tad harsh on Turnbull-but he was no Jock.

Bear in mind too that it was a fairly level playing field financially apart from the Huns as usual.Indeed,Celtic were paying a very basic wage.Players wages were boosted by performance results.

So that makes Jock’s achievements even more remarkable.

    Where did Rachel go?

Spooky..she was at the bottom of that Swindon paper report earlier..

  23. My friends in Celtic,

Non footie post : interesting advice for last minute holidaymakers on the box for travellers from the North of England.

Fly from Glasgow or Edinburgh for the best deals.

To summarise : they have obviously built Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester airports in the wrong locations. Rename them all and we can all save dosh. Simples who needs moneysaver.

    Alternatively standardise the school holidays.

    Rio,

Thorne Smith’s Night life of the gods. Extremely funny and beautifully written comedy.

Alternatively Ivan Klima’s My golden trades. Fabulous Czech writer. Short stories.

Or… The masters – the Russians: Gogol, Bunin, Platanov etc.

    Just some suggestions.

  25. I’m no fan of John Collins. I predict he will leave Celtic before end of season. Sooner if he doesn’t keep his trap shut. I’m not disagreeing with him but somethings are best left unsaid.

  26. Rioskorrie,

‘Lethal Allies’ by Anne Cadwallader was a very good read. It’s about collusion in the north of Ireland.

John was honest. Surely preferable to lies? The other sides are crap. It would be lovely to say that Anne Widdecombe* could be a catwalk model but that would be a little untrue.
