Celtic blew Partick Thistle away this evening with a virtuoso performance, which really needed to be seen to be appreciated. They passed perfectly on the Partick pitch and should have been ahead before Leigh Griffiths got the party going with an 18th minute penalty.
By that time, Emilio Izaguirre hit the post and Tomas Cerny made a fine save from Patrick Roberts. Thistle defender Callum Booth tried to stop Roberts but mistimed his tackle to concede the penalty.
Griffiths was on fire in the first half and beat three players inside the box before crossing for Tom Rogic, who lunged to make a slight contact on the ball, but it was enough to knock it against the inside of the post. Firhill held its collective breath as the ball ran along the line before turning inside the net at the opposite post.
Leigh then setup Callum McGregor but Cerny saved again. Thistle were struggling to get onto the ball but Lindsey should have done better with a header from an Erskine cross but the ball landed in Craig Gordon’s arms.
Goal of the night game three minutes before the break. James Forrest cutback for Roberts, who fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
Thistle probably thought they were passed the worst but Callum McGregor got his customary goal on 82 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced half a meter over the line and out, but the assistant referee correctly indicated the goal.
Tom Rogic was clean through with the keeper to beat twice late in the game, but substitute Thistle goalie, Ridgers. Tom couldn’t get enough on his header but the Thistle defence gave possession to Patrick Roberts on a plate. The England Youth international jinked before curling a memorable goal beyond the despairing keeper.

57th competitive game of the season, looked like our 5th, we could have scored 3 or 4 in last 10 muns. The fitness, desire, attitude, skill, enjoyment from the squad was amazing.LG needs to take a step back and see the bigger picture, a wee bit of humility required.Guys like Izzy and Gamboa step in and step up, no issues when they don’t play.BR will sort it.
I don’t normally post this lay But……..
I am quite drunk…can someone PLEASE post Mary Black singing ” Song for Ireland”

Sorry, I do not know how to post the link
Hail Hail to the auld Celtic.
You cant see it in the highlights but, when Paddy scored our 5th – the camera showed 3 young Thistle fans whose faces registered a strange mixture of disappointment at losing a goal mixed up with sheer admiration at Paddy’s class.
Big James ….

In all my years watching Celtic I honestly don’t remember a time when I wanted the season to continue like I do with this one.

Then after a couple of weeks I’ll be champing at the bit to do it all over again.
Plus, you don’t have to put up wi that auld punctuation correcting basturt like I do (and I canny even drink)…………….:_)
Cant wait for next season and the riches that await the Celtic family.
When’s your stag do?

I saw it on the live transmission of the match but the shot, from Paddy’s own point of view, of his strike nestling in the net, was left out of the highlights package on BBC. Someone would have to screengrab it from Sky’s own footage if they repeat the game.
I’ll need to smuggle Wee BGFC in to Hamiltontim’s Stag Do :-)
St Stivs
You are on top form tonight with the music.
Re Makem and Clancy.
It should always be remembered that all of the Clancy Brothers went to America to pursue their career as actors, not singers. Makem, The Bard of Armagh, did likewise, and it was only by necessity and accident if you like that they fell into the folk-singing business professionally.
The Clancy Brothers and Makem are almost solely responsible for my love of brilliantly recited poetry and to this day I don’t think I have ever heard anyone as good at it as they were.
I remember being at school and was caught mucking about in The English class clearly paying no attention whatsoever to what was being taught. To make an example of my idiocy, The teacher asked me to stand and recite a poem presumably in the expectation that I would fail miserably which would thus prove that you can’t be larking about in the class.
To the astonishment of all, not least me, the only poem I knew by heart at the time (and still do) was The Host of the Air by William Butler Yeats and so I started out in my best Liam Clancy voice ……..
“O’Driscoll drove with a song, the duck and the drake
From the tall tufted reeds of a drear Hart lake…….”
Of course, we had never learnt the poem in class and so this got me into even more trouble as the teacher presumed that I was away taking secret drama lessons somewhere ……. the only somewhere being my bedroom perhaps.
At the time of the recording of the Makem and Clancy concert you posted, I thought that Makem’s Four Green Fields was the greatest of all rebel songs. The Troubles were in full flow, God help us, but unlike many other songs Makem’s words never referred directly to armed struggle or the Troubles of the day but in a truly poetic and literal way made it quite clear that the Fourth Green Field was in Bondage but would bloom once again one day.
I haven’t heard that recording in a few years and am glad you posted it. Makem’s rendition of The Croppies Lament is masterly.
If we are looking for a new Iron Man to replace Broony in midfield??
Just saw Kriss and Lisa on their twitter feed opening the new SIMBA room at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Good people.
Only IMHO,no one sings”Song For Ireland”like Luke Kelly.Just about shades me.
Aye right.
Respect and condolences to Brian. I played golf with him three years ago at CQN Aberdour and he was a good man and a good tim.
YNWA bruv.
As I keep saying,Paddy Roberts was born to play for Celtic,in front of this support. An absolute joy to watch.

A few folk disappointed in Griffiths… I’m disappointed For him..
No player is bigger than the club but I think despite the fabulous season many in the team have had Griffiths remains the most potent player we have.
I don’t think Brendan shares that view.
