Had we made the £5.2 million bid before the Kairat tie, I think we’d be playing in the CL this season. Let’s learn.
I think it might be a bit more complex than that.
Who knows when they decided they’d cash in and when his wishes changed? Who knows when he decided to push for the move? Who long it took to change their minds?
Maybe it all came after they went out of the conference league, four days before we had to register a player for the knock out tie?
He looks good, he look a like the sort of player who will do well for us, but he’s played against Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle so far. To expect him to walk off the plane, take Maedas place in the team and win us a game in the qualifiers is expecting quite a lot.

I can see where you are coming from but there was no service to the centre fowards. He may, if available to purchase, made the difference.
Personally those two games bored me to death, made the tea for the next day during it…..
The Celtic board have for years failed to prepare for vital champions league qualifiers. Examples have been highlighted but playing centremids and kids at centre back, wingers as forwards and most recently just not having enough wingers/ forwards are just a few examples. The board punt any quality players as soon as the chance arrives whilst drawing out negotiations that lead to missing out on players and/ or said players coming to late to the party.
The shite facilities around the stadium for supporters and lack of vision regards growing the club has also been of significant concern. All of which is only worsened by their apparent inability to communicate effectively with supporters, and in some cases simply being obnoxious when they do speak.
The above failings have been exposed on numerous occasions. The folk that protest against the board are simply a reflection of their frustration about continued failures on and off the pitch. Those who point to having 77 million in the bank (technically 86 million as there is a another 9 million owed to the club vs what club owes out) as an example of success need to ask themselves, how many businesses and/ or wealthy folk have millions in an account collecting interest under inflation? The answer is none, money is invested to secure better returns.
We all want celtic to be the best they can be. We can continue on our current path or we can change things up. It does not need to be complete change or radical change but it cant be tokanistic change.

FSR only applies in serious, legal countries, were the footballing authorities don’t allow [fake] clubs to participate in their associations.
That can’t be claimed in Scottish football were Sevco were smuggled off of the back of a lorry, and presented as a different club entirely, and every club in SPL level Scottish football accepted this fraud without blinking a side-clicking-eye-lid.
Scottish football leaders are officially bandits, gangsters, mafia, and other flavours of Tories like PLC boards.

I only just caught comments on the previous blog from others but pleased to see most got the point about FSR that I was trying to make
Income down = Players sold to raise income (Khuns sale is probably for the highest price we will get, Maeda’s departure might be next highest or maybe Alstr Johnston all to be replaced by lesser players to develop) but your post makes it abundantly clearer Celtic are a house where the ceiling has been lowering and the basement rising for years.
Only CL money and good prices on some player sales have acted like a hydraulic jack to stop the house collapsing.
Hyper wages pushed the ceiling down and lower income has slowly pushed the floor up.
The financial reality has either not been put as bluntly as you did in your post or if put, has been seen through a happy clapper filter or infected by the Pedrophobia virus.
Having said that the house can be more stabilised by sticking to the living within our means policy, but much better execution of that policy when it comes to player trading in and out, balancing football needs by being swifter to meet them but also taking the financial benefit of finding more diamonds in the dust.
The days of the Celtic I and many grew up believing in are heading for the sunset, but that does not mean a new and better day will not follow as the misconceptions that create the current divide pass with the setting of the same
sun.

Yet let me add, it hopefully will help nullify your scaremongering in your reply to TBB.
We have for a long time now being selling HVPs.
Did we know when Ange left how much we would get for Jota?
When BR came did we know how much we’d get for Matt O’Riley?
When we bought Kuhn did we know how much profit he would get us in 18 months?
As long as we have good recruitment and UCL football we will have HVPs…
Now to tackle the subject in general.
We have a dozen years of the Peter Lawwell recruitment strategy, it was originally a Scottish football emulation of the Yanks’ Baseball moneyball approach.
We have lots of data and lots of examples of what works and what doesn’t, it was eventually honed as a working model after Peter Lawwell left as CEO, Ange, working firstly with Dominic McKay, then with Micheal Nicholson got our recruitment working well.
Interestingly enough when PL came back as Chairman, the recruitment approach changed but when he wrote about our official strategy in the 2023 annual report this is what he said…
”Our successfully proven strategy has delivered stability and footballing success over many years and remains the same. We must balance the signing of players that can be developed and sold when conditions are optimal alongside the need to sign players who are able to make an immediate impact and deliver footballing success. The execution of this strategy is increasingly challenging owing to wage and transfer inflation, but this formula has underpinned both our footballing success and financial stability over a number of years now and it is vital that we adhere to it.”

So in the debate about selling high, buying low, or Rodgers likes oven ready players, or the FSR impacts our recruitment strategy – these are all partial arguments.
The strategy has always been a mix of “oven-ready” players and “development” players.
The Club has always needed financial stability.
Celtic knew that transfer inflation and wage inflation were going to be a challenge going forward.
The Board prefer development players because it’s a business strategy; they’re cheaper, they’re prepared to gamble and any losses can be borne by the football club’s strong cash flow position, any gains make the Board look like shrewd operators.
The football coaches and managers prefer oven ready players who can impact the team with the necessary experience and ability in the positions that they need covered or improved.
It doesn’t have to be a battle of wills though and when we have implemented the mix approach well, under Ange and in 2024 under BR, the team has improved, the results have improved and financial stability maintained.

That since Brendan Rodgers returned well over thirty first team squad players have left and that the team and recruitment has been managed within the parameters of our stated strategy.
The challenges of wage and transfer inflation as highlighted two years ago has been met by more players leaving the squad, than was added, these players have brought in well over £100mn in transfer fees.
We currently have a squad we paid £ 54 mn for and is valued at over £ 130 mn, with well over £ 77.3 in the bank and making £ 45.7 mn before tax in profits last season.
So look back “our successful proven strategy” and the challenges highlighted two years ago by our Chairman and you will find the football department has not only stuck to the strategy but met and bested the challenges.
The Board by it’s dogmatic attachment to their moneyball business model and the Executive who have been incompetent in executing the recruitment strategy are where the current issues lie.
Do we need to get better at identifying recruits – yes, is diligence necessary on the financial stability front – always, yet this is normal business as usual.
Any criticism of player identification or scaremongering on FSR compliance is simply hyperbolic smoke and mirrors to deflect away from a dysfunctional Boardroom
Well done to our CEO for not only understanding this but making a commitment to improve.
Our objective each year is to compete in the Champions League. Unfortunately this season, we suffered a loss on penaltiesin the tie against Kairat Almaty, which resulted in Europa League entry instead. As a Board, we take responsibility for thefailure to achieve that key objective and commit to improving going forward.We now look ahead to our Europa Leaguefixtures against FK Crvena Zvezda, SC Braga, SK Sturm Graz, FC Midtjylland, Feyenoord, AS Roma, Bologna FC 1909 and FCUtrecht, where we will hope to perform strongly and progress in the competition

These excuses really won’t wash…
It is up to the Executive, supported by the Board to make this recruitment happen.
Kyogo went in the January and was not replaced.
A not fully fit Jota came in on the wing, did well but was long term injured.
We needed a quality striker and a winger to replace those two.
In the summer, in terms of first team players, Taylor, Kuhn, Yang, Idah, Meada were scheduled to leave.
That’s seven first team players that needed replacing, mostly in forward positions, and we needed more quality in midfield and defence as was evident from our exertions in 2024.
Bringing in most of the ten players needed in a timely manner was key.
Low balling Clubs through the summer and not caring if players were in or not, in a timely manner or not was just totally unacceptable.
Waiting for a month to pay the money required for Tounekti was crazy.
Not the worst, actually not getting a striker in at all and selling Idah was the worst.
How anyone can defend that window is nonsensical.

The transfer window just closed looks like a very bad organisational failure compounded by heel digging and positioning.
Ridiculous that it came to that.
