  1. Anyone else note the increase in the number and frequency of Reb songs being belted out by a large section of our away support last night is proportionate to the amount of “hand wringing tut tutters” comments posted in regards to our song book in Manchester. :-)

Personally I am not going to criticize anyone for singing the very same songs I used to. Like them or loath them they are part of some of the young bhoys definition of being Celtic supporters.

  2. So I see the CIA are now trying to blame Russia for Trump winning the election. Is there anything the Russians don’t get blamed these days?

Putin blamed for Celtic fans singing rebel songs.

Russians blamed for supplying Celtic fans with pyro.

Celtic fans blamed with aiding Putin in his annexation of Crimea.

Celtic top of league due to Russian state sponsored doping.

Craig Whyte(ski) was a Russian plant say SMSM – KGB fed Keith Jackshun false information.

  4. If we’re gonna extend freedom of speech to everyone (and I believe we should as much as we can) then we should expect to hear some things we don’t like.

“What have IRA songs got to do with football?” is an accusation I often hear.

“Paper Roses” has nothing to do with football, but the Killie fans sing it.

“I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” has nothing to do with football, but the West Ham fans seem happy to traduce Michael Jackson’s monkey..

  8. Hamilton Tim,

Apologies for the late reply, pesky work called.

When I mentioned detrimental, I was mainly referring to image. Will singing about the Provos help attract the new generation of Celtic supporters. Will it help attract and retain players / managers. Will it help attract sponsors.?

    IMO the answer is no.

Does it make many Celtic supporters uncomfortable, ? Yes.

Do we get embarrassed hearing it when watching in mixed company. Often.

Is it compatible with a progressive, multi faith ( and none) multi cultural, multi racial society in 2016.

We will never be rid of the “old firm ” label if we are seen as the other side of the coin. And to many non Celtic fans hearing these songs, that’s exactly what they think.

I love a good sing song in the Gallowgate after games. If you don’t like it, then don’t go. But I remain convinced that a football match is not the time or the place.

it’s time to move on, and embrace our future as an all inclusive club, that is truly open to all.
