If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the podcast I did with the LostBhoys on Celtic in the 1950s (superb production quality, you should check out what they are doing), I took the opportunity to mention the Hibs team of the late forties and early fifties, including the celebrated Famous Five forwards.
They won three league titles and narrowly missed out on another two as they unequivocally dominated Scottish football. They were probably the best team in Europe at that stage, only the lack of a formal European competition denied them recognition. Celtic battened down the hatches against Hibs in the 1953 Coronation Cup final but nothing would be the same again for the Edinburgh club, although reputation got them an invitation to the inaugural European Cup, in which they reached the semi-final in 1956.
We learned today that the last surviving member of the Famous Five, Lawrie Reilly, died, aged 84. Their achievement should be suitably acknowledged (this is not an endorsement of Willie Ormond’s later work, obviously).
The news that Hibs have today bid £200k for a striker is significant. £200k doesn’t buy you much in English football but it is a substantial investment for any club, apart from Celtic. Maybe Hibs long period in the wilderness is coming to an end.
I only caught up today on the Scottish Sun’s online coverage of the arson attack in Salsburgh (alas, not unique in the bus industry), complete with photographs of Celtic supporters and Neil Lennon (all of whom were four hundred miles from the incident). I remember reading a story on rape, robbery and assault in London in The Sun back in the 80s, accompanied by inner-city photos featuring exclusively Afro-Caribbean-Londoners going about their business. Real subtle.
Remember the email Charlotte Fakes produced on negative news stories against ‘other’ clubs being planted? Utterly breath-taking. Scottish football, as it was, and for some, still is, is inherently an unstable influence on Scottish society. We need to take our business elsewhere and I don’t believe any of our top-flight colleagues would object.

OldTim- is there not an Oddbin’s behind the Celtic shop on Argyle St?
I’m hoping to be in BBs before the game, thunder and lightning permitting.
Googybhoy
It is hardly news that Nicholas Witchell is an Elmer!:-)
green edge- ole bus specially built with bespoke spokes, in view of great weight of Swalastair, jabba, DJ etc etc.
Losin’ bus in fire seems careless, given amount of asbestos they have ready access to.

Ciao again!
Interesting line-up!
Never really thought of Kris as a centre forward, though for a ‘middy’ he does score a good few goals.
Similar build to Dixie ‘tho!

Thank you for that
Since time immemorial, even BC(QN), the constant call from fans is for us to get out of the Scotland, and it’s bigoted backwater pandering to a now defunct club.
The whisper rises to a roar whenever the curtain is drawn back and the corruption is exposed.
Events too numerous to mention have sparked cries for the board to do something or hold a gun to someone’s head and pick up our beds and walk.
False dawns have come and gone and we are still here.
The obstacles are far too many and complex. Too many stars need to align in a perfect constellation before we can flee.
UEFA, FIFA, FA, SFA, SP, pick a random letter of the year, L and various other ruling bodies have to be in agreement. We have pinned our hopes on Sky, the Atlantic League, and guess what. We are still here.
The spectacular fall from grace in Govan afforded us another excuse, particularly given the blatant bending of their own rules at Hampden. Something we should have become accustomed to in the last 125 years.
Maybe we should shift our focus and concentrate on improving the current environment.
Let’s use our power to weed out the detritus of the old regime.
Let’s install a representative bureaucracy which is balanced and transparent.
Let’s overhaul the creaking fabric of the Scottish game.
Let’s enforce a financial model which will ensure clubs are forced to operate within their means with stiff penalties for non compliance.
We can do this. All we need is the will.
The will of the fans and the board.
If we drift along with the status quo the old regime will remain in power, the tribute act will soon resume their rampage through the rule book and the last few years of jelly and ice cream will pass into the history books as a footnote.

We where in the whisky shop in sauchiehall st. Cant remenber many wine shops but there is a majestic wine store in partick..
Not sure if you can get a goof deal there butas Dbbia said threshers behind celticshop would be a good shout.argyle st..shop.
Canamalar1, was wondering if the statement below has the right tone, particularly “fail” the language doesn’t do your hard work justice and you want/need to keep these people onside to take your quest for answers to a different level. I don’t want to see you fail on such errors before it gets off the ground. Maybe “decide not to” or “choose not to”, however your choice at the end of the day!
If the Board fail to back this resolution, we request a written explanation within 1 month of the date of the AGM, justifying their reticence and explaining why there was no financial impact to our club or license issuance irregularities if that is their contention.
Malorbhoy.
Are you about. Just wondering if your going to the game tomorrow.
Was thinking of heading down your way for a couple of days and it would be good to get some info about nice hotels in your area, can’t interfere with football matches though.

Just to be clear, Neil Lennon wasn’t booed when he played in England.
He was booed when he played in Scotland.
We all know why.
As for testimonials, we are invited because we take a large support.
The home fans aren’t hostile when we are there. That’s after we’ve paid.
If they hate us so much why don’t they let us know?
I don’t recall any particular hostility at most of the competitive games we’ve played in England, certainly nothing on a par with what happens in Scotland.
We’d get a fairer crack of the whip down there than we do up here, from all concerned.

10 minutes walk from where I am staying.
Cyber pint in the tap for you, unless you live in Carlisle in which case I’d be happy to make it a real one.
blantyretim.
I hope Ronnie comes on. He would surely know a good wine shop in the City Centre.
I remember now, It was a spirit shop, but there was wine there too.
Paolosboots,
I originally had refuse instead of fail which looked worse when in fact it would be more accurate, so I’m thinking fail at least gives the impression that there was discussion but couldn’t agree.
Oldtim.
Yes near to pedestrian precinct at sauchiehall st. Not to far a walk from buchanan bus station. Should get nice wines in there too..
Oldtim,
Why no just go online and stop wasting good drinking time :o)
Canamalar, i understand what you are saying, but if i say you’ve failed then its a major negative, you could say “if there was no consensus” then you would appreciate an outline as to why they arrived at this outcome. Anyway there are others on here who are also keen to help you maybe they have some ideas. I just think you want the board to be on your side given the shareholders &/fans you are representing and it would be a “surprise” if they didn’t back your proposal without giving you ample explanation if that makes sense!
Canamalar1.
I’m inclined to do things on the spur of the moment. I received my usual monthly wine list from Tesco Wines on-line this morning and as I will be in Glasgow a few hours before the game, I was thinking of having a wee look at a couple of wine shops,it’s just a pity I don’t know any that I can have a walk round, hence asking BT for some advice.
This is so funny on so many levels.

Insurance job written all over it and with the big blue bus kept there the good old Celtic support will get the blame HH
I hear the only police to draw batons at the Brentford pitch excursion were the Scottish Focus “spotters” who were there for a jolly- including the guy who described himself as a pest controller
Paolosboots,
I really don’t see any problem with the term fail and I’m no really wanting to give them ideas on how they can politely refuse, if they can’t reach consensus then they’ve failed to reach consensus I’m trying to reduce the the babble and be as consice as possible.
Oldtim,
There’s no need to explain I was being a bit flippant, just thinking of all that wasted drinking time :o) and them feet of yours :o)
Hail Hail
Ernie Lynch: I attended the Beardsley testimonial and I assure you some people were quite volatile towards us. You are living in a dreamworld if you think the English would embrace us. I say this because of the hostility we would face because of IRA songs.
Oh and paolosboots,
Not today there’s no :o)
