Pathetic opportunists who are miles behind the curve

440

You will not hear supporters or staff at an opposing club with a bad word to say about Graeme Murty.  He took over a shambles of a football club and for several months matched results with anyone in the league.  Twice he took Newco to Celtic Park and left with a point, but the man is a football coach, not a miracle worker.  The disparity in resources would eventually tell.

Against the might of Brendan Rodger’s Celtic for a third, fourth and fifth time he experienced increasingly worse defeats.  No one was surprised by this, the Newco board even tried to sell these results as “ahead of the curve”, but there was a fundamental issue that made it difficult for Murty to remain in position – he was sabotaged.

The evening before a game at Celtic Park, news leaked (and was not contradicted by the club) that Steven Gerrard agreed terms to become Newco manager.  This came a day after Murty spoke about his chances of keeping the job if he won the four remaining league games.  It was degrading and prioritised the position of the board over results on the field.

Dave King made a similar comment about the future Newco manager just days before his team faced Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final two weeks ago.  That statement coincided with season ticket renewal letters.

What could Murty say after losing 5-0 at Celtic Park?  We did our best but last night someone, who travelled with us on the team bus today, leaked that I was soon to be removed from my position?  Whatever exchanges took place between the manager and his employers, a common purpose was difficult to imagine.

Inevitably, there has been some pullback on the Gerrard ‘news’.  It seems matter is not as clear-cut as was believed on Sunday morning.  I spoke to Peter Lawwell before the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.  Brendan wanted to come and the Celtic board were equally keen, but Peter was clear: until a deal was signed, no one really knew what would happen.  He had not committed to deliver anyone in particular, but he was nervous.

Promising a new manager the evening before you visit Celtic Park might take the edge of the inevitable pain for some, even at the cost of undermining your manager, but you had better deliver on that leak.  Otherwise, you will look like pathetic opportunists who are exploiting the trust of your fans and are miles behind the curve.

  2. Apparently Murty’s 187-day reign as manager is the shortest in the club’s history.

    A new club record!

  3. The present Ticket Office, like the Superstore, are not big enough, standing in the rain, for 3 Hours, etc, with no cover isn’t good enough, also on match days the Superstore,is to small,so that is 2 things that need attended to.

Why doesn’t Lawwell expand the underground vaults to make space for the TO and Almore’s cafe? It will also allow fans to see the Champions League bullion up close.

No its not, I agree completely.

But the more schadenfraudists the better than Celtic negativists, – I say.

After being subjected to ‘the pavement pirates’ and ‘buroo barnacle’ paedo

    Good evening, friends.

I was just sitting here thinking….. last year after we had won the league we were still on our Invincibles run and, like it or not, Brendan decided to keep playing his strongest 11 right through to Cup Final day. This year it’s a bit different and I’m hoping that there are some chances given to our extended squad members. Particularly as our next 2 games – Hearts and Kilmarnock – won’t affect the race for 2nd place. The Aberdeen game (in 12 sleeps time) is maybe different in that we want to go into the cup final with a bit of momentum. Really, there’s only 1 single game left that I’m significantly bothered about. Yes, I’d love to pick up another 3 league wins too but ideally we can do that whilst taking a bit of a risk in resting some of our key cup final starters.

I understand that the problems are technical. For a start the underground line from Glasgow City Chambers via Celtic Park to The Vatican would need to be moved. And on top of all that

They’d have to dig through a layer of diamonds which is a lot of drilling…

This time next week, following a 4 nil home defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock, the Sevco board sack Jimmy Nichol and invite under 20 coach wee Graeme Murty to take over the reins until the end of the season.

Discussing with BSR today, (in EK), the same.

We reckoned Brendan has let the Tenerife Bhoys know who can party the most, while others would be ready for action.

    BSR,

    thanks for the reply.

No we dont need a Celtic thread.

Im currently in my free time looking at the effects of one team having a much larger budget in other leagues and sports.

Most leagues counteract this with a wage or salary cap to stop this exact scenario happening.

Why ? Because its generally recognized as harmful in the long run for one team to dominate.

I dont like to thing what will happen on the blog should i present evidence that our current course and strategy is harmful. Ill probably be asked to provide an alternative.

News reporters when they present bad news arent asked how would you fix it,,yet bloggers are sometimes,,,it cracks me up.

I recently met an old friend who doesnt know anything about football and in a quiet moment he asks still watching that team. Rather than get drawn into a long discussion about it i say yes.

He asks are they winning ,,yes actually we are,,how many championships in a row he asks.

When I said 7 he looked at me as if i had 2 heads and said hows that fun?

Thats the cold hearted view of dominance in a sport to the average yank . I find it hard to argue against.

These terms negativists and mineshafters etc should not exist after all they are just members of the Celtic family with a different opinion.

To ask someone to scroll by is fine, no problem with that.

But when people are invited to leave the blog ,, I dont like the phrase Jesus wept ( at least its true ) but i feel like saying it every time I read away and start your own blog etc.

We should rue every lost poster, they helped the place become richer in content, and probably helped the charities.

And speaking of the charities this morning a mother in Malawi sent her daughters out and watched them come back hopefully a wee bit happier, a wee bit more educated, and nourished for the day ideally.

Now to that woman this blog could just well be just about the best thing in her and and her daughters daily grind, yet some would have bloggers they dont agree with depart completely. Im sure that woman would be horrified at that.

Theres been and continues to be a lot of good from the fine men and women that inhabit these pages . Im delighted at that.

Paul especially can be very very proud of that.

I think we should all ask how we can help the blog along . Its worth it, it really is.

A lot of interesting points there and in previous points.

As you say, to expats the blog can be a godsend.

If I may, it can also be the same for those who are not in the best of health.

I have mailed Paul previously to thank him and received a lovely mail back from him.

One of the great strengths of the blog has been lively debate and diversity.

When I read now, that appears to be less and less, through time we appear to have lost a good few posters who debated or they just pop in on the very odd occasion.

I don’t agree with everything you say, nor would I expect you to, I always think if two people agree on everything, one is either lying or submissive.

Healthy debate should be encouraged, for me, it’s the oxygen for the blog.
