Pathetic opportunists who are miles behind the curve

440

You will not hear supporters or staff at an opposing club with a bad word to say about Graeme Murty.  He took over a shambles of a football club and for several months matched results with anyone in the league.  Twice he took Newco to Celtic Park and left with a point, but the man is a football coach, not a miracle worker.  The disparity in resources would eventually tell.

Against the might of Brendan Rodger’s Celtic for a third, fourth and fifth time he experienced increasingly worse defeats.  No one was surprised by this, the Newco board even tried to sell these results as “ahead of the curve”, but there was a fundamental issue that made it difficult for Murty to remain in position – he was sabotaged.

The evening before a game at Celtic Park, news leaked (and was not contradicted by the club) that Steven Gerrard agreed terms to become Newco manager.  This came a day after Murty spoke about his chances of keeping the job if he won the four remaining league games.  It was degrading and prioritised the position of the board over results on the field.

Dave King made a similar comment about the future Newco manager just days before his team faced Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final two weeks ago.  That statement coincided with season ticket renewal letters.

What could Murty say after losing 5-0 at Celtic Park?  We did our best but last night someone, who travelled with us on the team bus today, leaked that I was soon to be removed from my position?  Whatever exchanges took place between the manager and his employers, a common purpose was difficult to imagine.

Inevitably, there has been some pullback on the Gerrard ‘news’.  It seems matter is not as clear-cut as was believed on Sunday morning.  I spoke to Peter Lawwell before the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.  Brendan wanted to come and the Celtic board were equally keen, but Peter was clear: until a deal was signed, no one really knew what would happen.  He had not committed to deliver anyone in particular, but he was nervous.

Promising a new manager the evening before you visit Celtic Park might take the edge of the inevitable pain for some, even at the cost of undermining your manager, but you had better deliver on that leak.  Otherwise, you will look like pathetic opportunists who are exploiting the trust of your fans and are miles behind the curve.

  4. Ole Sevco are not ahead of the curve, that’s definite.

They aren’t behind it either though!

    They are flatlining.

  6. So, Stevie Gerrard?

A staggering appointment for them and a truly awful move for him.

Who on God’s Green Earth is advising him? Does he still think its 1999? Has he seen them “play” recently?

As for Sevco – this is the appointment of a non-serious club, simple as that.

I get where you are coming from but to what point would you extend that philosophy?

Shall we ignore the SFA Licensing Committee process concerning Sevco and their breach of FFP?

What about how Sevco try to bully other clubs in the League?

How about their malign influence on the press?

IMO these are things we should comment on. If we ignore them we ignore the things that still plague our game. The battle is still not over.

  13. One of the problems I see with the “don’t comment on Sevco!” line is that it is exactly the same message they are giving us:-

“Talk about your own club, why don’t you? Yous are obsessed with the Mighty Glasgow Rangers!”

In my mind, the media have listened and assented. They have let them get on with quietly swindling Scottish football and having partial and biased admin decisions taken in their favour.

They want the spotlight shone elsewhere. They want us to talk about anything but them, their observation of rules, and the source of their funds.

I think, I have earned the right to say “Naw!” to all that.

Even if we have made barely a dent in The Continuity Myth yet at any official level, there are many supporters of many Scottish clubs, who lived through this period, who will not wilfully forget, as they have demanded. We will remind them with our dying breath and the living breaths of younger Celts and Celts yet to come that THEY LET THEIR CLUB DIE.

As Sandman said, anyone can spout whatever they wish in response to one of Paul’s leaders. They can agree with it, argue against it, or, like most of us, ignore it and plough on to say what is bothering us at the moment. But, don’t ask for it to be censored! We live here and we have seen the self-censorship of the media. The phone callers who back the Continuity Myth, whether green, blue or other persuasion, will receive approbation. The Dissenter will be ridiculed or cut off. There is no neutral position. Scottish Media have let us down and have been, alongside the SFA and SPFL, the main backers of the view that the Emperor has always been fully clothed and has never behaved like James Forrest in a Prestwick Night Club.

So, Forums (Fora??) like this remain immune from their influence.

    On here I can say

“Your old team died and that is your tragedy and your fault”.

    and I can add

Your new team’s pish and that is our comedy but it’s not exactly your fault this time”.

I respectfully dissent from any request to stop talking about them and their misdeeds…

And from poking fun at their misery.

Roma’s players have shown support for Liverpool fan Sean Cox ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg.

The entire Roma squad wore special training T-shirts reading “Forza Sean” as they prepared for the all-important clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

The T-shirts worn by Roma players went down well on social media with fans of both clubs, with many writing “respect” and “nice touch”,

  15. That last post should have read, if he does go he will be a disaster although I still don’t think he will go.

There’s a lovely story told about abuse hurled at the great Danny McGrain by one of Them. I’m not sure when exactly it was but the Misbegotten one got himself tongue-tied in trying to find the right term of abuse since DM wasn’t a Fenian/Papist, etc. His clouded mind offered him one fact about the footballer that he thought he could use to good effect and so he shouted: “McGrain, you !!**!!** diabetic!”

Some of you might be able to dot the i’s and cross the t’s on that one.

    Pog,

Using what I believe to be the correct formula – L x V x 0.5 [where L = the quantity being bought, in litres and V being the %age strength] then I calculate that the minimum cost of yon bottle from today would be **remember to show your workings** – 0.660 X 5 X 0.5 = £1.65.

    Me, I’m more concerned about the 13% bottle of red I gad at the weekend for which I had paid £4.79. Minimum price today – 0.7 x 13 x 0.5 = £4.55.

I am only basing my opinion on ID on how he treats my Godson at Dumbarton, and how he treats my sister. Durrant knows they are both huge Celtic supporters and has always shown kindness and respect towards them. He even got them tickets for Celtic European games this season. Maybe he has matured?

Always, I’ve heard from others he has a weird sense of humour, so maybe he thought he was being funny.

Incidentally following on Twitter, Clyde SSB have asked tonight who are the 6 Celtic players who made 1 league appearance in 7 in a row.

A certain Marcus Fraser is one of the answers. Magic.

I have met my favourite ever Celtic player Danny McGrain on many occasions. He lives less than a mile from me. I asked him once, once if he ever supported Rangers. He said that he never supported any team as a child, and became a Celtic supporter the day he signed for us.

    Happy Birthday Daniel Fergus.
