Patience, flag and Siri

458

Nervous? Oh yes. Any one of a number of things can go wrong, up to and including a red card while conceding a penalty. Celtic will need to score three without reply before any of us relax tonight. It’s the kind of challenge which should be completed within 15 minutes but Brendan Rodgers is right to call for patience. Any rush to get the job done could produce fatal consequences.

18 years ago this week, in front of a packed and newly completed Celtic Park, Larsson, Lambert, Boyd, Rieper, Burley and co. faced an equally unfancied St Patrick’s Athletic but couldn’t put the ball in the net. And they guys knew a thing or two about playing the game. Football isn’t played on paper, sometimes you need reservoirs of patience to invest in this sport.

Remember to get along early to see the league title flag unfurled before kick-off. I know we’ve seen 11 of these events since 2001 but we should never take it for granted.

…………….and the game is on your season ticket.

Best wishes to Tony Watt, if he joins Hearts, and to Massimo Donati, who’s pitching his tent at Hamilton Accies this season. Both created great Champions League memories for us.

I know the Uefa response to Res 12 hasn’t been generally released but did Siri and Skybet get a copy as well as the SFA?

You mean, more diplomatically, that they are a disparate group?

    Yes,they are. You’re right,as usual.

  3. Oh and for the record scots, at least two season books have been in my family for over twenty years, 4 before my kids grew up and made their own decisions, but for the last two my grandson has taken one of those back up

  4. Genuine question which may expose my ignorance of the wider football world, but are there any teams playing the old ‘two up front’ as it used to be?

I’m struggling to think of any. But as I say, it may be my ignorance.

Had me worried there,so I googled it to make sure I’d got the word right. It suggests one meaning while having one much more damning.

Which is that we need men in our team, and we seem to be sadly lacking in them.

  7. Damning indeed Bobby, think this comment in reply to someone who supports “no matter what” goes some way to what I was trying to say:

CFC have sat on their hands and allowed SDM, King and Murray to illegally deprive them of income. The governing bodies have engaged in kangaroo courts to exonerate their complicit officials. The Scottish game is corrupt. How can you possibly beat Rangers on the field when they can cheat for eleven seasons, run up unsustainable debts, win titles, and then reboot as if nothing has happened.

    Back to work now:)

Cqn corner is next to the Superstore, in front of the pools office, if you’re lucky or unlucky you will probably bump into the Ohg

  9. The earliest we will definitely know we’re in the CL is 23rd August. The Draw is made on the 25th which will dictate pricing depending on who we get if we qualify. With the sale starting I guess on Monday 28th August. Match Day 1 of the Group Stages is 13th Sept. Giving us potentially just over 2.5 weeks to shift c50k ticket packages.

We’ll need extra staff but we won’t know if we need them until 5 or 6 days before. So on what basis should we employ the extra numbers required, given that they may not actually be required?

As an aside it’s now over 20 years since Tony Blair stated in his 2nd Leader’s speech to Conference that zero hours contracts would be abolished.

£6m for Sinclair, from a team desperate to cut their wage bill?

    Tell them to GTF.

Stick wi Paddy,we can make a pre-signing in January for next season.

  12. RobertTressell on 20th July 2016 1:36 pm

Leicester played 442 pretty much all last season.

    Didn’t do them much harm.

  13. Sinclair should not be a priority.

Asking nearer 6 million for a guy who cost them a lot less then hardly played?

    No thanks.

Use money we have to sign experienced leader at the back and a defensive mid.

In Blair’s defence,it was hardly the biggest lie he told, was it?

If he has genuinely converted to Catholicism,I reckon his First Confession might have had to be done in shifts.

Agreed on O’Connell, however my thought was that he was disconcerted by the OG, which could have happened to anyone. Time will tell, but I hope he gets a chance.

As far as I know, Ciftci has played well in the Friendlies and Dembele is not quite up to speed. I am not advocating the selection ; I am just trying to guess what Brendan will do. Not important, just part of being a supporter!

Maybe see you tonight. Bowlie, did you say and no pony tail? Should be a cinch.

Not really, mate. If I’m honest,I used the term once in conversation wi a journo a few years back, discussing third-world hunger.

After he’d stopped the beer running down his nose,he explained it to me.

Patronising bassa was lucky it was only beer, but heyho…

  18. Afternoon we’re on the road again…

Something just not sitting right with me for tonight, maybe just me but I didn’t feel to good last week either. Patience Brendan says, get flippin tore into them and get a bit of self respect back.

    Ayrshire is Green and White

  19. Here’s what I think I might do to mitigate the requirement for additional staff.

As soon as we’re guaranteed group stage Euro football, whether it’s EL or CL start selling an early bird 3 match package. It will be priced in such a way that it’s likely to represent a slight discount on EL but likely a significant discount on CL.

Most supporters are likely to jump at the chance and it should give us time to sell them without the need of additional staff.

    Something like that anyway.

Would not read to much into supposed formations.

    Good coaches make the difference.

Ronnie had good intentions but failed to implement his system properly.

Rainieri looked at his squad and set out properly with personnel at hand.

Barcelona are said to play only one up front but the truth is when they attack sometimes they have 3 or 4 in the penalty box.

The system should be fluid enough to adjust to positive or defensive possession.
