Patience, flag and Siri

458

Nervous? Oh yes. Any one of a number of things can go wrong, up to and including a red card while conceding a penalty. Celtic will need to score three without reply before any of us relax tonight. It’s the kind of challenge which should be completed within 15 minutes but Brendan Rodgers is right to call for patience. Any rush to get the job done could produce fatal consequences.

18 years ago this week, in front of a packed and newly completed Celtic Park, Larsson, Lambert, Boyd, Rieper, Burley and co. faced an equally unfancied St Patrick’s Athletic but couldn’t put the ball in the net. And they guys knew a thing or two about playing the game. Football isn’t played on paper, sometimes you need reservoirs of patience to invest in this sport.

Remember to get along early to see the league title flag unfurled before kick-off. I know we’ve seen 11 of these events since 2001 but we should never take it for granted.

…………….and the game is on your season ticket.

Best wishes to Tony Watt, if he joins Hearts, and to Massimo Donati, who’s pitching his tent at Hamilton Accies this season. Both created great Champions League memories for us.

I know the Uefa response to Res 12 hasn’t been generally released but did Siri and Skybet get a copy as well as the SFA?

Yes (about different contract types) but one of the issues here is that we won’t necessarily know we need extra people until 2-3 business days before they’re needed.

re overtime: So there is a requirement for short-notice working beyond regular hours. How is it managed?

Bookie offering 7/2 for a Celtic win by 5 goals or more – tells you what the bookie thinks about tonight

  4. I disagree with zero hour contracts for full-time work. I have some sympathy with the position the club are in with a requirement for extra staff for limited times.

I’ve suggested a plan for how it could have been mitigated but I’m interested in others’ ideas too.

As it is we need extra people on dates yet to be confirmed. Tricky.

I personally would employ the number we think we need to give acceptable service then see if people were prepared to work extra hours to bring that service level up to a higher standard, Something like that anyway. No ZHC required.

I am now sitting in the main square of Angra do Heroismo supping my second pint, Mrs H on a large white wine, which is well deserved.

Flight from Pico was a breeze, 20 minutes, if that. Collect bags, fifteen minute taxi ride to Terceira’s capital and the Angra Garden Hotel. We were greeted by glum, slightly awkward reception staff, and informed that there had been a double booking “situation”. Their proposed solution was that they would taxi us to Praia do Vittoria (maybe 25km away) and alternative accommodation (Angra is chocca for a conference apparently) for two nights, at a reduced rate, and then the final night in our original hotel, with gratis meals. “No way!” Was the short version of Mrs H’s reply. A steely look later and they had moved someone else and had found a room for us. :))))

Looks like a really interesting place. I think I mentioned previously it is a UNESCO WORLD heritage site

Again an advance thank you to all live updates tonight. I hope you can all keep up with the goals ;)

I’m not really sure who I’d like to sign. Options are dwindling and even though I’d like a CB, Boyata and Simunovic’s are only a couple of weeks away from returning.

    Could Lustig deputise til then?

Premier League clubs have priced us out of Allen, Robson-Kanu and Gunter

Duffy is apparently also attracting interest from the likes of West Brom

Respectfully I disagree in the respect that winning isn’t the important bit.

Tonight winning is everything. Against part timers with the stakes so high anything other than a win will be unacceptable. It will be a bonus is we perform well and score a barrowload.

Being open, honest and ethical but with a consistently losing team will result in an empty park. A winning mentality followed by a winning team will fill the ground.

    In my opinion of course.

    Hail, Hail

  9. I booked Premier Sports, just nine quid for a month.

Looking forward to the game tonight as I’m climbing the walls stuck in the house (that would be one-handed climbing) :(

Reckon we will need to go a bit gung-ho tonight and hopefully our back four will keep those wee imps in check.

To be clear about it, I think I’ve started early/finished late on less than 10 occasions in over 4 years. Usually it’s me personally wanting to catch up to ensure a deadline. I think I’ve been asked to do it by my line manager on only 2 or 3 occasions. We’re not compelled to at any stage. If I can’t do it then it’s not a black mark.

So it’s managed by being asked, and if you can’t then that’s that.

I’m not totally sure I understand the question. I (thankfully) don’t need to employ people.

  15. Sipsini… Some of the bhoys were saying this morning you have to give 30 days notice to cancel with premier sports or you get stung for an extra month.

The Minimum Wage (under 25s) is £6.70/hr

The National Living Wage (minimum for +25s) is £7.20/hr

The Living Wage is £8.25, up from £7.85 last year.

    Seems there’s a question to ask…

  17. mike in toronto on

GreenP … fair enough pal. I am talking on a more big picture sort of thing …. but, I agree, losing tonight would be awful …. but, as I said, if we take care of the other things, winning will take care of itself often enough (including, I would think, a match like today).

Must say …. today is my first match in a LONG time without Celtic TV … but I thought I would be okay, as I was supposed to be on a site inspection today, so would miss the game anyway … but my damn meeting got cancelled, so I will be in the office without but wont be watching the game! Feels really strange not to be watching the bhoys play! :(

Just as well you only need one arm to swally.

Typical – you ask me to provide statisical data for my argument and yet you can only offer anecdotes and hearsay, picked up whilst hanging about outside jobcentres.

The Office for National Statistics report says that 65% of those on zero-hours contracts are happy with their arrangements, as opposed to 63% of those on full-time contracts – and 70% of those on zero-hours contracts, say they don’t want more hours.

Of course there will be exceptions, the world is full of exceptions to every norm.

I should add that if it turns out that Celtic were, for example, involved in the 5WayAgreement, then I would be okay if – hell, I would hope that – the stands were emply (if if would force out those who were involved) …

  24. MOONBEAMSWD on 20TH JULY 2016 3:17 PM

As you said it was different when we were temps. When I was at the TO there was a bit of a rush getting the ST offers out for the completed stadium. We certainly had a few youngsters in for evenings one week stuffing envelopes that were never seen again.

I know one of the them was a nephew of a staff member (nepotism) I’m not sure whether they were Celtic temps (ZHC I suspect) or agency temps, or cash in hand.

So being that was nr 20 years ago. I suspect that many things have changed. Including the pressure applied to those on benefits. I only ever signed on for 6 months and I was in a DSS approved voluntary scheme within a week of doing so, so they left me alone.

  25. Sipsini OK mate, just thought I’d give you the heads up.

Must be good to work in a place where the work is as predictable as that.

I thought you were in the IT business. Here’s a scenario:

Your employer provides IT managed services, responsible for the servers that support the client’s operations.

There’s a SLA rquiring full front and back shift staffing, plus nightshift maintenance and supervision, and to maintain 99.9% availability.

Half an hour before the end of the backshift, the server goes down, reason unknown, but it’s taken the entire sytem down, a major incident. The nightshift comprises 1 member of staff (a serial poster on CQN), who, it is determined, cannot possibly resolve the problem and restore the system on his own.

It’s estimated (from previous experience and early diagnostics) that it will require 16 person hours to rectify the issue. There are 4 folk coming to the end of their backshift.

    How would you manage that?

Would your approach to resolving the issue change if the server was vital in supporting care in the ICU in the new southern?

  27. GREENPINATA….

Celtic are a football operation with a self sustaining financial model’.

That is measured by KPIs such as,

    a) Wages and other costs,

    b) Profit and cash generation

That (imo) is why we have Zero Hour Contracts.

    Player Recruitment is about profit,

Neill Mc Gunniess, ex Celtic Scout,

“If it’s not making profit, it’s not working. So it’s as black and white as you can get. If it doesn’t work, you’re not going to be making money, especially not in Scotland.”

The business is structured to be self-sustaining. That is PL’s objective. The Sevco income is part of the strategy, to produce revenue, sustain the operation and pay remuneration and bonuses.

How each of our three business divisions in performing in relation to their objective to generate money is PL question, imo.
