Patience from the champions

206

Our struggles this season first emerged been on August when St Johnstone first visited. Then, they were bottom of the league but earned a point and could have left with more. Having escaped Perth in December with three points after being behind at the break, there will be no over-confidence among the champions.

Whatever bounce Craig Levein brought after his managerial arrival has dissipated. His side have win only two of their 10 games since the break, at Ross County and Aberdeen.  They will defend deep but patience from the champions spirits pay off.

While you are right about the George Harrison connection you have got his religious songs mixed up, though George did reference the chant in ‘My Sweet Lord’ later.

Celtic supporters adopted and adapted the ‘Hare Krishna Mantra’ which was released by the Radha Krishna Temple and released in August 1969. It was our tribute to our very own Harry Hood who had signed earlier that year. George Harrison actually produced the single on the Apple label, it hit the charts and was performed on TOTP. Later adapted of course to include Lou Macari but initially only for Harry.

  2. While searching for the evening cxitizen lions of lisbon headline i came across several 1890s publications.

the evening times publishes 3 times every weekday and saturday and then an evening football results update.

    5pm, 6pm, 7pm. then 9pm.

now what interests , well me anyway, the versions have updates, like a live blog, not instantaneous but as fast as it could be in them days.

if you know our history, this particular copy is fascinating for the celtic inhouse politics of the time and the rush to professionalism, all reported on one page – here goes –

Glasgow Evening Times – Friday 18 May 1894

    FOOTBALL GOSSIP AND GRUMBLES

  3. Celtic: Hart, Johnston, Welsh, Carter-Vickers, Taylor, O’Riley, Tomoki, Bernardo, Kühn, Kyogo, Maeda.

Subs: Bain, Lagerbielke, Holm, Oh, Vata, Kelly, Forrest, Ralston, Idah.

  4. Wolves player boots Coventry player in the kisser – reviewed by VAR but no action taken

  5. The Celtic fully deserved their charity success of last saturday. They were unmistakable the better team, and their style of play left no doubt regarding their earnestness, They clearly wanted the cup and they got it. The Queens Park sadly disappointed their friends.

  6. The Celtic club have been well officered in the past. Even if I did not know that of my own knowledge I could argue it from the single at the annual meeting on tuesday last all last years office bearers were re-elected. The membership is to be congratulated upon its good sesnse. There is no policy so prudent as standing by a good thing when you see it. The proposal to appoint a paid manager was not considered.

  7. Gossip –

It has not yet appeared so far, but I am told there was a big row at the Celtic Annual meeting and there are divisions in the committee camps that may prove serious to the club.

  8. rumour – (the tone is sarcastic, with the rumour being that doyle is staying at celtic for a fiver a week and a pub license), this was the contencious issue that split the committees).

Doyle has evidently made a sacrifice in deciding to reman a Celt. To give up a safe £5 a week, and with the drawings of a good pub thrown in, it cannot be otherwise regarded as a sacrafice of snetimentality.

  9. Gossip –

The Celts have, of course, been obliged to make an exception in yhr case of Doyle and depart from the uniforn wages, and cannot be blamed for this decision, as the alternative meant so much to them.

  10. Without Doyle, their defence is much reduced and that in itself will mean a loss of revenue of 10 times greater than the increased pay amount to.

  11. We hear that the presidential chair for Queens Park will be occupied by MR william Seller for the second time, as the Scothmen fall so far behind the Irishman who have paid their way to beat all other contenders.
