The dispute Newco have with the Scottish Professional Football League over their sponsorship deal with car retailer cinch might look a bit ridiculous. The club are refusing to display SPFL sponsor logos and, apparently, refused to permit their manager to be interviewed by BT Sport unless the broadcaster taped over the logos at Motherwell on Saturday.
It’s an odd hill on which to stand, even after considering that cinch are direct competitors to the Newco chairman’s car retailer business. cinch will continue to advertise and gain market share at the expense of traditional retailers, the chairman is called Park, not Canute.
It makes more sense if you consider Newco want to replace SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster with a more compliant individual, think a 21st century Jim Farry. If they can beat the SPFL in the courts, they can push for Doncaster’s removal with some authority. For this, any small hill will be sufficient.
This is a proxy war with the governance of our game is the real tide.

Why is there silence from the rest of the SPFL on this issue if it is directly endangering their sponsorship money? If newco were to win, would it not jeopardise every future sponsorhship deal as every club could follow the precedent by saying there was conflict of some sort or another with a local club sponsor.
Who s going to sponsor the SPFL if they cannot be in any way offering a product/service that is a rival to a random chairman’s personal business?

Hot Smoked…I met Dick Campbell at Firhill some years ago. I found him to be anything but a loveable character. The media ‘love’ him and he certainly believes the hype. A bigot, as was Jimmy Calderwood, another ‘character’ loved by the media.
On the Sevco fan sites, they are very confident that they have the SPFL and SFA over a barrel on these issues. They reckon that the Cinch deal was done without due regard to club’s own sponsorship deals and that it is written into the rules that it should have been.
Now, their club supporters are a notoriously desperate and gullible lot who are prepared to espouse lies, knowing them to be lies, and yet defend them fervently and with violence.
Usually you can detect some fragility and desperation in their arguments re the 5 way agreement, Continuity Myth etc; but they seem cooler and more confident on the cinch issue.
Does anyone have the real facts on cinch? Is it a manufactured battle to get rid of Doncaster? Or do they have the SPFL bang to rights and want to present a victory to a fan base that has seen them lose so often in the courts?

Regards the Cinch sponsorship and ongoing legal dispute. This is another scorched earth attack to scottish football. The Rangers will only be happy/smug when other clubs are perhaps forced down the admin / liquidation route and treated differently to their original club, to perhaps save a league – if it is a number of them. Then they (der huns) can scream about how they were treated differently because no one likes them and its a Celtic governed authority blah blah blah. The feeling of detest I have for that club grows daily, they are loathsome.

FWIW, I think Old Firm FC`s three best players are: Aribo, Kent and Tavernier but as I have never seen a full game involving OFFC, my opinion is not with very much :-)
Also, although those three are decent players, I am not sure if they would oust the Celtic players in those positions.

The issue I have with him saying this is not that it is in any way factual or can be held up under scrutiny under Company law or good governance football law, it’s the fact that he knows he is lying and we know he is lying but no one seems to care apart from some Celtic/Aberdeen/Dundee Utd supporters and the odd journalist or two. Hotsmoked, you can combine paracetamol and co-codamol, that’s a pretty powerful cocktail, I use it when I get sciatic pain. Just don’t get hooked on the co-codamol!
The other med that works is Diclofenac, amazing results – but you need a prescription, and it can conflict with some blood pressure meds so not every doctor will prescribe it.

Genuinely neutral administrators (which he appears to be) need to be supported, especially in the face of a concerted attack, otherwise we’ll end up with Huns in charge of our game again.

SFTB – I don’t think anyone has the real facts on Cinch other than sevco and possibly the SPFL, the latter is questionable depending on what sevco have deigned to share in support of their “case”. Those sites you mention have access to the same information as any of us, so their optimism is most probably borne of blind hope and trust in their club’s management (no laughing at the back).
Looking at the respective behaviours. For sevco this position is typical when faced with a contract they don’t like, refuse to play ball and tough it out for as long as possible hoping the other side loses the will. They were possibly surprised by Sports Direct’s stamina, and their determination to find a non-Scottish court to hear their case. Wasn’t there also a case pending with a firm who were contracted to carry out building works at ibrox?
We know that sevco operate with a degree of self-righteous bullishness, so their actions (in covering up logos etc) should not be deemed to suggest they believe they have a strong case, more likely designed to convince the world (including their fans) that they do.
On the SPFL, thus far I can’t take issue with their approach. They’ve quietly continued with all other aspects of the sponsorship deal without fuss or comment, and I’m sure they would have agreed or at least consulted with Cinch on this approach. What are the options available to them for a member who breaches the collective sponsorship deals? Not sure, probably withholding prize monies at the end of the season, so we’ll know more when that crystallises. However the SPFL are faced with the very real possibility, whatever they do to penalise sevco will be met with challenges, negative media briefings and all kinds of hue and cry. How do you solve a problem like sevco?
I’m struggling to see a scenario where the other SPFL clubs consider sevco to be right in this matter, and rally behind a motion to oust Doncaster. A lot of those clubs need the sponsorship money far more than sevco, so this move would feel like a form of societal blackmail, “back us or we keep sh**ting in the communal well”.
