Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

  1. Who do you think the SFA would believe or how they would act if a Celtic player claimed in the semi that a Sevco player called him a F***** B?.

on 2nd thoughts dont bother we all know

  2. Bada/Praecepta,

Out of all that has happened in the past this one really has got my back up.

Nobody knows what was said, yet found guilty!

I work in an environment that would love to get away with that, hope it doesn’t catch on. HH

Alexander Tonev issues a statement using terms like “I will … ” etc and you somehow come to the conclusion that since it was posted on the club website then he has been done over by the club and thrown to the wolves. I suppose he could have released his statement via the Disney channel that would make much more sense than using the media outlet of the club he is currently playing at. Celtic are not the bad guy in all this, the SFA have managed to brand a guy a “racist” based on interpretations of his speech and body language.

Did Alexander Tonev racially abuse the Aberdeen player? I do not know and the SFA cannot prove he did either, that is what makes this decision so wrong. Celtic have supported Alexander and issued a statement yesterday reiterating that support or was that a lie too because it was posted on the club website?

PS : I sincerely hope I have read this incorrectly and we are indeed a club of substance and morals.

    I sincerely believe you have.

  7. Doc,

You may well be right and that Aleksandar Tonev’s statement is completely autonomous.

No matter though our club has been proven impotent and been outsmarted again. If this is the case then Tonev will definitely be back down the M6 in January because he will forever carry the racist tag and we can never be seen to condone playing “convicted” racists.

This is not the fight I would have picked with the Scottish establishment, but having commenced battle and then backing ourselves into a corner,I would have expected us to continue the fight with renewed vigour.

I can still hope. Credibility over logic.

    HH to you.

Holiday wishes from our friends over at Zombiemedia:

“Time for absolutely everybody involved in any management capacity at Rangers to be taken out, beaten around the head for a bit, then told to **** *** and never come back. That includes the board and the football management.

Then put the players in a wee boat, take them out into the Atlantic, point them towards an iceberg and give them a good fucking push.”

What is it about them that they cant just fire their managers…. what is it about them and people going out to sea and never being seen again?

  9. owen,

    Not surprisingly I respectfully disagree.

Celtic’s actions should or will speak louder than words. We shall see.

Sky sources say despite resigning, Rangers boss Ally McCoist is preparing for the next game as normal. A sausage supper & a pay rise, then.

Guy just spoke about McCoist’s “tenure” as Sevco manager. Tried to convince myself he said “ten year”, but too much wishful thinking I guess.

Ashley can make that business wipe its face whilst coining it in off merchandise.

    Ashley can increase his stake.

And like I said a wee while ago – and people seem prone to miss

Ashley doesn’t have to do a lot to start forward momentum. Not a lot at all.

He only has to beat us.

As to how easy or difficult that is at present, or in the very near future, is purely up to yourselves to discern…

I read the Tonev statement like you.

As far as I see , Celtic would not allow a statement on the official website that they did not endorse .

I’m afraid Tonev has been flung to the Lions and previous statements of taking the matter to CAS are now forgotten.

Poor show but a fine statement from the young mhan.

  14. Bloody typical I always seem to end up posting after the list of names for the annual has been compiled :-) See my big wee sis made the list though Hail Hail to the Lurgan Bhoys and Ghirls.

    Greenpinata

Each to their own I suppose, personally I just do not automatically blame Celtic for everything that goes wrong.

  15. GreenPinta, neither Tonev, nor the Club have accepted the verdict, nor guilt, quite the opposite.

Celtic openly stated they would back the player, if the player wants to move on, it is his right, or should the Club bully an employee into perusing a case for their ends?

I don’t know if Celtic are behind this, or Tonev, or both, only they know.

You may be right, this isn’t the fight to pick.

But the balance of probabilities is used disgracefully here.

It is entirely the wrong balance for a case such as this.

    Anyhoos, off for a curry.

MacIntyre and Wilson hurting badly. MacIntyre more so. Wilson is probably still dreaming of King.

  18. Thank God Tonev didn’t say he wanted to make his feelings clear in black and white; he’d have got another 7 matches added to his ban.

  19. LOL, BBC 1 Reporting Scotland leads with clip of Ibrox today with a wee wummin’ hustling on of the Krays about Fat Sally.

    I say to the missus, “Look – Ally’s mum’s turned up…”

Without irony, she quizzes back, ‘Eh? That’s Ally’s Mum?!?”

    Double LOL.

  20. i have to say – Tonevs lawyers did a terrible job defending him . First off , the question of credibility! Logan had since shown complete disregard to sfa officials and charged with foul and abusive language – i’m sure there are other character related incidents which could have been brought up.

Tonevs character – Played with senior clubs and international teams without any incident. played in teams with mixed cultures including black….without incident.

Then finally , the focus on the word c*nt

I could have defended him better + why wasn’t lawell at the court. Doesn’t seem we took this case seriously enough!

Was that Ann Budge outside the asbestos dome, shouting to Sandy Easdale about Ally being honest, sleezebags, blah, blah, blah. .

  22. I don’t think its right that we start kicking our own Club about the Tonev affair.

The fault lies with the Leagues “Balance of Probability” rules. I think Tonev himself wants this whole saga ended and an end to newspaper headlines etc. Chances are he won’t be plying his trade in Scotland in the longer term. When he is back playing regular football be it with Villa or further afield I doubt if anyone there will give a flying f**k about the SFA or what happened.

  24. Does the seven match ban affect Tonev’s eligibility to play in the upcoming Europa League games. I think the guy is starting to get what Celtic is all about and I have been impressed by the ability he has shown in recent games.

Let’s hope he sees out his loan spell at the club. The former Bulgarian footballer of the year looks a helluva better prospect than some of the guys that have been on Celtic’s books in recent times.

  25. bournesouprecipe on

Celtic’s statement yesterday and Aleksandar Tonev’s today cannot be separated .

If his words ‘move on’ mean that he does not wish continue the case, how so called Celtic supporters can find this as another stick with which to batter their own club, sure beats me too.

Can we expect Bulgarian FA bashing posts as well?
