‘PEOPLE LIKE TO MOCK AND RIDICULE,’ ANGE FIRES BACK AT CRITICS

ANGE POSTECOGLOU fired a stinging response at his critics after Spurs beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 to book a Europa League semi-final spot.

The former Celtic boss said: “Unfortunately, you’re going to have to put up with me for a little longer.”

The Greek-Australian has been the target of some outrageous comments in recent months with the London club failing to make an impact in the Premier League.

Many observers have stated he is heading for the sack and former Ibrox gaffer Graeme Souness insisted Postecoglou was on “a downward spiral’, as CQN reported earlier this month.

However, the one-time Australia World Cup head coach guided his team to victory in Germany last night for a 2-1 aggregate triumph and they will now face Bodo/Glimt in the last four with the showpiece showdown due in Bilbao on Wednesday May 21.

Dominic Solanke got the only goal of a tense contest against the Bundesliga outfit via the penalty spot to keep alive hopes of silverware and European qualification.

Postecoglou faced the press conference afterwards and, with a wry smile, said: “Unfortunately for a lot of you, you’re going to have to put up with me for a little bit longer.

“So let’s see how that goes.

“I said yesterday, I am the same manager today that I was yesterday, so if people think us winning tonight makes me a better manager or whoever thinks I wasn’t doing a good job yesterday, should be feeling the same way.

“I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t affect what I do. For me, it’s always about the dressing room. Do the players believe? Do the staff believe?

“That’s much more important than what others may make of me.”

Asked if this win would ease the pressure from the outside world, Postecoglou, speaking on TNT Sports, answered: “Doubt it!

“My pleasure comes from seeing this group of players rewarded. They have never lost belief. Super proud of them.”

Quizzed on his earlier comments about “always winning something” in his second season, Postecoglou, who lifted five honours in two years at Celtic, replied: “I will leave that.

“People like to mock and ridicule. They diminish my achievements, I will keep doing what I do.

“We are in the final four. Semi-final of a European competition. We are not often there.”
