Saturday’s night’s performance was reminiscent of Celtic’s disintegration five years ago, when teams from the bottom half of the table were free of the inhibitions which normally plagued them against Celtic and found Neil Lennon’s side vulnerable.
Now, like then, we know a Celtic side which has served us well is coming to the end of the road. This is clearly another transition season, which has thrown the door open to anyone with title aspirations. Despite the lacklustre performance, that win at St Mirren was Martin O’Neill’s third in three Premiership games – a feat which Celtic only achieved twice before in 2025. Even a transitory Celtic team have purpose; it’s what perennial winners do.
Yang deserves credit for his contribution on Saturday. Hitting the byline and crossing is a tactic as old as the game, but it is a trait which has slipped away from Celtic recently. Space opened up for Callum McGregor to win the game because Yang drew the St Mirren defence deep. In a transitory season, he has a contribution to make.
Perennial losers, on the other hand, respond differently. Hearts have played four games since their win over Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic last month, dropping seven of the eight point cushion they built up in the process. Expectations in Edinburgh have been adjusted down.
Colourblindness and football kits
Football clubs are keen to give their second or third kits an outing where a potential clash of colours can happen. Hearts played in their third, all black kit, yesterday, with Aberdeen in all red. To the one in 12 men who are colour blind, the players were indistinguishable (on television, at least). The game was played in darkness with ‘legacy’ floodlights, which reduces clarity below what would be experienced in clear daylight.
Hearts traditional maroon jerseys and white shorts would have significantly reduced the kit clash. Their second stirp is white with black shorts and would have prevented the kit clash their actual choice created. This issue is too easy for Scottish football to get right.
Did the Newco campaign against referees over the last two weeks work? Apparently so.

I guess Patrick and Kevin was just too much for the support to handle 😀
The new manager must have told the Chairman they’ve signed absolute duds and wasted £20m.
Chairbhoy,
Your post yesterday at 2.31 concluded with a very poignant fact regarding the DD/PL combo and continuing a journey on Fergus’s legacy. I don’t think that I’ll ever get over the fact that Fergus, knowing about family dynasties and monopolies, allowed the control of our club to become adrift from his original vision. Well, here we are. You keep swingin’ the punches, my friend – we’ll have our day. HH☘️
Yeah – really can’t understand why people get so worked up about league positions and points gaps at this stage of the season (and even earlier!).
From previous article:
Chairbhoy – ah yes, the old well-worn ‘reckless behaviour’ one! If Across The City FC were winning the league every year and getting into the CL knockout rounds would we still have seventy odd million sitting in the bank…….?
Thelwell & Stewart have been sacked by Rangers .
Andrew Cavanagh show’s decisive leadership qualities .
He doesn’t criticise them and welcomes fan criticism.
Leadership which is a world away from what Desmond and our board have shown .
TT
Wow.
That is a shock at Ibrox.
Mob rule in action.
Thelwell really was a dud.
Not so sure re Stewart. Won’t be cheap for them either.
yang!!!!! goodness gracious me
Burnley78
It is the right decision to sack them both IMHO.
It’s not about MOB rule or defiance .
TT
Tiny Tim
Agree. Totally esp re Thelwell who was old school.
My point was badly made. I meant the mob will feel empowered. They got rid of Martin. Now these two. Apologies.
Stewart will cost them I am sure.
Latest betting odds, offered by Bet365, on the next Celtic manager (others are quoted)
2/9 W. Nancy
9/2 G. O’Neil
10/1 M. O’Neill
12/1 S. Maloney
25/1 K. McKenna

Yang
The last bastion of the mark Lawwell window!!!
Summer 25 not one new signing has improved the team,
The manager “signs off”” on all transfers whilst pleading in open court for 6 weeks for more quality.
Transition season you say….
A transitional season ? That’s a great term.
It makes it sound organic, inevitable. Something completely outside of the Club’s control…
We are indeed transitioning from SPFL stand out into an SPFL challenger.
Managed decline more like….
I Daresay Ratners went bust due to mob rule deciding they weren’t happy with the quality anymore
The Huns have acted decisively. They’ve held people to account following on from what I guess was a review of their awful summer window.
If they get better people in then I suspect we could see more transitional seasons ahead.

DD should have been decisive and binned Rodgers back in March / April.
His behaviour in the past 2 windows was there for all to see. He didn’t because he feared sacking a manager the fans were taken in by and wouldn’t pay him off as per contract and we have seen the result.
Strong leadership would have been binning him then.
The sacking of the DoF will help though when not spending in the upcoming window. por cierto
Jam tomorrow CFC.
Looks like that’s tomorrow’s article sorted then – how another club sacking two people makes Celtic a well-run club!
Souness or Gerrard for DoF? Probably not.
Football has moved on for Souness, but maybe that’s the real reason why they held talks with Gerrard in London, por cierto
Yang !!!,dear God.Thats it.Problem solved.Well,he was one of Jnr,s signings.
Got to laugh at Burnley,” Agree on Thelwell sacking,he was Old School”
Our Board are so ” Old School, they are still getting free milk.
Hard to sack a CEO and CFO on our Financial results though eh? por cierto
Again,Burnley.
” BRs behaviour in the last two windows, was shocking, there for all to see”
Boards behaviour,in the last two windows.” How much?£5 million you say”
“Would you accept,£ 2.2 million”.That’s our limit.
Window closed.” Brendan,we have let the Window close without getting a striker in.Wit we like,eh.Any chance you could get us one in”
World Class in everything we do.
Behave
Por Cierto,
Check financial results, against financial results 10 years ago.Account for inflation, rising costs. You will see minimum financial progress has been made.
Any CEO,CFO,losing as much money as we SHOULD have taken in from failed CL qualification,in the past 10 years through lack of investment, would have been sacked.
Read Mc Gowans article today.

Be honest with yourself B78 you never wanted him back.
Round bout that mar/apr you along with Paul67 where twattin bout imaginary ‘maw-dohs’ being ripped up,mind you if you were honest with yourself you would know very little was done the previous Xmas window.
Our defacto owner corrected his mistake.
Dermot owns all to do with BR2,direct your anger towards him,go on….no you’ll kack out,its easier to do the cowardly punch down and be hun like with a divisive them and us narrative.
Must do better b78

Desmond should never have went and asked BR to come back. Not as if both never had problems before. It was Desmonds blunder.Made promises to BR to come back,or we all know,he would not have, then changed his tune. The way BR works was no shock to their system.A monumental fek up,that Desmond ,in his maniacal statement, tried to put on BR.A coward of a man, only made more obvious by his refusal to attend the AGM.Face to face,he opted to let his spoilt brat fire the bullets.
Do any of his acolytes even know where he is at the moment? In America, beating down Nancy’s wage demands. In England, swanning around some golf course.Communication with the fans.Aye right.

—————————————————————-
After 13 SPL games last season Aberdeen had 32 points, 2 more than Hearts have now. They trailed Celtic, who had played a game fewer, by just 2 points. By the end of the season that gap was 39 points.
As you suggest, the SPL trophy is not handed out in November!
2004-5 🇳🇬🏆🇳🇬
2005-6 🔮
B78 wakes up during the night only to imagine Brendan Rodgers is standing at the foot of the bed grinning his arrogant, expensive toothy grin…”Don’t worry B78, I’m not really standing here at the foot of your bed, I’m still inside your head…”
Cavanagh states there will be no throwing of dirt on the departures of Stewart and Thelwell. It’s a pity the Despots wouldn’t follow the same principle.

…………………
I have it on very good authority that our “de facto owner” (copyright Hugh Keevins) is ensconced at the Sandy Beach Hotel in Barbados ………… or at least he was at breakfast time yesterday morning.
Incidentally, TurkeyBhoy, because I know of his whereabouts certainly doesn’t make me one of his acolytes.
Bigchipsuk
Absolutely. Everybody plays 38 games and the team with the most points at the end wins. Doesn’t matter which teams they are won against or in which months. And as far as I know you don’t get bonus points for being top at the end of each month!
Have said since before the season started that our points total will likely be down on normal because of the amount of goalscorers we have lost but I think we should still have enough to win, although poor (or non!) recruitment in January will certainly make it more challenging.
