When something doesn’t make sense, assume you do not have all the details. Read practically anywhere online and you will learn it does not make sense for Celtic to sit on a pile of cash, with a team which requires strengthening. We can agree on that; it doesn’t make sense.
So we could assume that we have full knowledge and that despite the obvious need, Celtic would allow a player they (i) want as first choice for a position and (ii) are able to afford, but (iii) would risk losing the player for the want of spending a tiny amount more of the bank balance. Again, we can agree, this does not make sense.
Or, perhaps we don’t have all the information. Why would anyone think that something which does not make any sense is reality? If this is you, I suggest you don’t Google your symptoms.
Often, the first deal that’s done for a player is with the agent. He will confirm his player only has eyes for your club and that contract requirement. If another club enters the race, the agent will let you know you have been outbid. After this is in place, you make an offer to the club. There is a world of difference between signing a £3m player for £3m, or signing him for £9m. Buyers and sellers have different incentives and there are more wasteful buyers and wise ones.
It would also be a mistake to assume clubs have hard preferences between candidates. They seldom do, so they pursue the options available to them, which helps inform the final decision. I know of situations at Celtic recently when the manager has sat on a decision until the last moment before making a decision – as he is entitled.
We hopefully agree that none of us possess perfect knowledge. There are things we do not know and that is absolutely true every transfer window. Why anyone works themselves up into a frenzy by assuming otherwise is interesting.

It just isn’t that easy. Not helpful to have a manager bleating publicly imo though. It fuels the fire and does make us look desperate.
…….
Agreed , why keep restating the bleeding obvious ….. arse covering imo ….. the line that we’ve got a great bunch of lhads ( which we have) wait for it but they need help …. just needs to stop. The rest of the club is more or less leak proof re transfers , just wish the manager would adhere 100%.
I guess we are just having to put up with the ego side of Brendan , hopefully all is well behind the scenes re Brendan committing beyond this season , I guess we’ll find out if there is ever a leak that signings failed due to no long term commitment from the manager (I’d love to play for Celtic under Brendan etc etc but committment issues etc etc ) …. Let’s hope not

It could be worse. You could pay nearly £1,000 for a season ticket to keep these swindlers in power, to keep the Old Firm in power as your be all and end all.
Then vote the Snp & Green scumbags to build hunners of Cycle lanes around Parkhead area causing hours of traffic chaos, but not a single inch of Cycle lanes will be built around the Ibrox area?!?!?!
Shoorley the day can’t be too far off when Celtic fans walk into a lamp post then as if by magic you ll realise that this great big shafting is actually your own fault?!?!?

No problem if Brendan leaves ,we have Lennon on speeddial.
When Chief Executive, Peter Lawell always said our bank balance was a guard against having to sell, the years we didn’t qualify for Champions League.
Therefore, spending now is not related to upcoming Playoff Round success, but next summers spending could be.

Rodgers has never been tested against the most financially powerful, vicious, mibbery, and EBT financially doped Huns that Neil Lennon had to deal with as player and manager.
David Moyes on Everton’s Transfer window “The club are trying really hard to get the players I want and I’ve found it really difficult because in my last few years (in his previous job at West Ham United), I’ve been involved in European competition. It’s a bit easier when you’re a club in Europe. You get a better chance of attracting a lot of players. We’ve been in for a lot of really good players. Unfortunately, a lot them have said no at the moment. “We’re up against it,” Moyes says. “If we’re going for players, we’re not going for bad players. Our attraction is maybe to some younger ones who are up and coming, or also those from lower leagues. In those cases, it is not a problem. But if you’re trying to take players who have had European experience or playing at the top end, they’re the ones where the ones we will find it harder to attract.
We need them to want to come. They have to come and buy in a wee bit to what Everton have got, the culture here. There’s a strong, hard-working ethic and we want to build on it and bring in more quality.”

Anybody able to guess at team selection for Sunday?
We are underpowered at the moment, particularly in players who are able to (reliably, safely) play out through a high press. Until/unless that is sorted we will continue to leak bad goals in important matches. Like the CL qualifier in 3 weeks time.
We are also absent a dead ball specialist and have been since Griff went.
We need an upgrade at left centre half.
We need a like-for-like replacement for Khun.
And we need a +30 goals a season striker.
That’s a lot of players we don’t yet have.
Let’s trust that them whose job it is to bring them in are both very busy and very effective.

Thank you, your doing well travelling 👍

Honestly you guys are hilarious or something like that………..
The football club needs better players if it wants to maintain or improve its prospects is now bleating and needs to stop??????
We need to replace quality with quality is now arse covering?????
Let’s hope targets we have decide against coming and we can blame the manager’s contract only has a year to run??????
Still looking for the football manager interview where they say “we don’t need new players” “we only want average players not quality ones thanks” “we’re quite happy standing still thanks”
Jeezo……….how bout a bit of balance not we hate Brendan undertone all the time?

I think we have a good enough squad for the league and that the 2 Japanese players are useful additions BUT we dont have enough for the Champions League and the Board will not spend until that’s guaranteed because unfortunately we have to qualify this year. And I tend to agree with that stance.
*fully concur here as its only 31 year ago taht we were saved by a genial Irishman and a wee mhan fae Croy, I have been on a few other sites through the years and almost joined KDS I say almost as someone on here said it was hoachin with hunterlopers, now I read their sevco site and the Tims on it absolutely take the piss out of the huns as the can spot them a mile away, same on here as come the end of next month they will disappear as we once again mollicate their mob

I think not playing competitively for so long is making us a bit jumpy.
We had a really good record in the champions league after Dortmund. We found a way to not concede against almost all opposition, seconds away from a clean sheet in Munich.
Since then we’ve improved the worst part of our defence and made it our best, about as “quality” as we’re going to see in any position in a Celtic shirt next season.
We should better defensively this season, hopefully much.
I certainly think as things stand we should have enough to beat the teams we’ll be up against in the qualifier
We’re a Kuhn away from the team that started against Bayern, with KT improving the defence.
We have a couple of weeks until the first leg, but over a month until the end of the window. All 3 “quality” players last Summer were signed from mid August on, so we may have to wait until then. Although if 12 months on we’re looking at the same problems again it doesn’t look like that window solved anything.
How do we avoid finding ourselves with similar problems at the end of this window? Big question
Its “relatively” easy to sign a footballer
You can spend £6m on a centre forward from West Ham, Ajeti and get no return (goals or money)
Or you can pay £9m for a centre forward from Norwich, Idah. You have probably overpaid but at least you get 20 goal, not sure we will get our money back
You can even spend a couple of Mil on a Japanese unknown, Kyogo who gets you 34 goals (2022/23) and £10m when you sell him
But in all honesty when each of the 3 of them walk through the door we didn’t have much of an idea what we were getting
I get a sense that Brendan feels like the rest of us – he gets the process and understands it takes time but FFS can we hurry it up a wee bit
The reality is there is 5 weeks to go before the window closes
But there is only 3 weeks to go before the CL Qualifier
And just for a bit of excitement we have Aberdeen and them away before the end of August

To be fair by the time they’ve done their Sudoku , Connections , Hoople , and Scrabble Go apps there’s no really a lot of hours left in the working day in Parkhead.
What do we do – sign players with the qualifiers primarily in mind or the whole season?
We could get them in the door early, probably overpay, and have a stronger team for the qualifiers but accept that we’ll likely miss out on better players later in the window as a result?
We can’t have both
Celtic40forme
Over the past decade , the modus operandi of our summer recruitment has mostly been that we wait to see what European tournament we will be playing in , before we commit to spending on our more desired targets .
The only exception to this, that I can recall, has been Anje’s first season .
We want to know if we will have CL or EL income .
Then we decide what targets are in our budget .
What’s in the bank doesn’t seem to come into it .
Our board are very cautious, some might say that they are VERY risk averse .
Our chances of qualifying for the CL greatly reduce after this season .
Cash reserves for the longer term .
Saving for a rainy day seems to be our approach .
If we fail to qualify for this seasons CL .
It may be several years before we qualify again ..

It’s easy up sign a crap one. Although even Ajeti turned us down and Lenny had to plead with him to come
Signing “quality” isnt easy at all.
What is it with Celtic’s transfer tactics? It appears that sometimes they make an offer which is way off the selling clubs valuation. This then generates frustration and embarrassment for the fans and no doubt ill will between the clubs- not to mention other clubs become aware
Surely the appropriate way is to approach the club and say we are interested in player X- what is your valuation? Then make a realistic offer?
Forgive my ignorance
If we do not get past the CL Qualfiers do we go straight onto EL Group stages
or do we play a EL Qualifier ??

I don’t know about that, a quick look at Brendan’s first season shows Toure, Sinclair, Gamboa, Moussa all played against Beer-Sheva and we only signed de Vries after it. I think it was a similar story the season after.
I might be wrong, though
Sorry Paul, most of us have a very good idea of how the market works. Most ,having supported Celtic for,30,40,50 years, have an even better idea of how our Board works.
The nonsense coming from some,” Don’t believe the reports”,really?.Whatever the actual figures are,and I believe Mc Gowan and the players club on this one,we are ridiculously lowballing on this.If we valued Kuhn at £17 million, and BR thinks Breum is a straight replacement,WTF are we arsing about? .The club have stated their price for the player publicly. Not ripping anyone off.We have left it too late to spend a week negotiating. We need players now.3 weeks to the qualifier, medical, settling in,training ,tactics. This is not a panic from me,this is sheer anger at the dithering. How BR must be feeling inside,God only knows.
