Performance credit remains in Ayrshire

242

It was never going to be Brazil 1970 but Celtic’s 2-0 win over Auchinleck Talbot fell considerably short of even low expectations.  Johnny Kenny scored his first goal in over two months, as the confidence-sapping weeks took their toll on the player.  He is a better finisher than the past 10 weeks have demonstrated.  Hopefully he can start to recover.

All credit from the game goes to Auchinleck Talbot’s players, who threw themselves in front of everything Celtic could muster.  Their performance reminded me of the 1-1 draw Arbroath took from Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup in 2012.  The Angus side performed equally well in the reply, but went down 0-1.  Nothing we watched in that tie could indicate how well 2012 would end for Celtic.

Delighted with the home tie in the next round and although Dundee have already beaten Celtic this season, they are ninth in the Premiership and should be a welcome visitor to Celtic Park.

Hearts’ home loss to Falkirk on penalties adds an interesting dynamic to our visit to Tynecastle next week.  Regarding Hearts, we have been hearing ‘momentum is all’.  That being the case, Sunday will be interesting.

🚨 Sky Germany report RB Leipzig are monitoring Arne Engels as they explore midfield options, with the Bundesliga side keeping tabs on his development. (

Celtic paid a club-record £11m for Engels in August 2024. If Leipzig move and the offer brings a clear profit…

🤔 Do Celtic cash in or build around him? 🍀 ⬇️

but sure , the timternet keep telling us he is rubbidge

  2. You know, there are 4 or 5 wingers in the EPL,not a great deal better,or on a par with Tounetki, all costing a vast amount of money more.I see them every week. The odd goal, similar to the other night, gets raved about.

Wingers are the most inconsistent players Difficult position.Full backs now, generally good,to very good,fitter,stronger..

I hear also we’re in for Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind . The Jonas bonus , if you like , is that he comes already equipped with a hamstring injury so we won’t have to wait for that.

    Smart work Michael !

Rodgers deserved to go for Balikwisha alone

    Cheers PLB.

    I happen to disagree.

I’ve mentioned on here a few times that Brendan wanted Balikwisha …

… for no other reason than it happens to be true

I wouldn’t categorise the player’s lack of contribution to date as a sacking offence for Brendan or any other manager.

    He might still come good.

If he doesn’t? (Looking more likely)

Won’t be the first time a manager fancied a player and his successor didn’t.

Shortvterm though? We’ll need a contribution from every player in the squad during the run in … including Michel-Ange.

    Yip.

    Bert is the man !!!!

Scotland’s coefficient drops markedly after next season.

Given performances by other nations and our downward spiral?

I reckon it will take 3 years of solid results by all Scottish clubs to get back to competing in that 11-14 seeding space.

    Unlikely.

    R2ngers coefficient will drop hugely.

(Their disgraceful European performance is conveniently overlooked among all the spin from the Blue Broadcasting Corporation about how incredibly wonderful their heroes are)

    Even bigger killer?

As a nation we are simply incapable of getting four clubs into group stage football.

  6. 12 league points dropped by Nancy. Absolutely criminal. Ifs and buts however we would be on 56 points if they were wins 9 in front of Hearts and 15 in front of the Huns if my calculations are correct

  7. What the chances on our board hingeing on Daizen (Wanted by Wolfsburg) as a swap with Jonas Wind.

Possibly holding out to end of the Window as they know we won’t be Happy.

  8. Sell before you buy.

    Or in our case, sell.

If we sell Engels, he won’t be replaced. We’ll get to the summer and some posters on here will claim we did replace Engels – with Stephen Welsh.

19 days into the window we’re having a transfer summit.

    FFS!

    ———

Thought the same thing. If this is true and it reflects the quality of our transfer prospecting and the sophistication of our “PR” operation – we’re in some nick !!

Aside, I’d recoup our cash on Arne, Daizen and Reo and let Martin work with some journeymen who can do the basics.

  11. Jonas Wind would be a terrific signing.Very good striker. Two weeks out though.😥😥.To be honest, who are we going to get in,in time for Sunday?5 days to complete and get training with the team.Takes us twice that to haggle.

Welsh and cash to Motherwell for Maswanisse.Buy Wind, contract up in Summer.Buy the big CH,Amenda.6.6.Around £6 million for the lot.Makes sense to me.

  12. glendalystonsils on

I think we could live without Arne . We could also live without Daizen and Reo mark 2 , since Daizen and Reo mark 1 seem to have left the building.

Problem is replacing them …… with anything !

  13. AT 22 Arnie Engels has got unfulfilled potential.

Given the chance of a settled environment I’m sure he could fulfil that potential with us.

Selling him would be a massive mistake imo.

No idea about football in Saudi

    It is of no consequence.

What does annoy me is the destruction of a winning Celtic team which was playing the best football I have seen in decades. Maybe even ever from a Celtic team.

A major share holder who made a decision to appoint a guy and give him FULL control of football …only to see him fee er ether his own nest and contribute nothing. Not one single worthy signing. Not a hint of anything positive. Only moaning from the start. Rubbish football and scrambling to even get through the weakest bunch of CL games imaginable. That was maybe the best achievement. Whilst running a squad down in value as he insisted on buying mediocre for big money through certain channels for whatever reason. All the while moaning and misleading the support. No surprise the major shareholder was totally embarrassed and responded as he did. His ego took a tanking by a fraudster.

As the support …… well they are still sucking up the consequences. And will do for years to come if their alignment with a rabid MSM are anything to go by. The gleeful old media are lapping up your misery and that of our malcontents.

None of this says our board now are fit for purpose btw. Nicholson could have spoken up.

  15. Watching a programme where everyone is bedecked in Orange. It is Andre Rieu and his orchestra entertaining the Dutch Royal Family in Maastricht. Maastricht is in what was the Catholic part of the Netherlands. Andre himself was an altar server there. Orange doesn’t have the same implications there as it has here.

Feels very much like the end of an era now, a Lennoxtown summit with two weeks of a window to go really is the pits. Was Tisdale the entire recruitment team – how did it come to this?

Bid low, buy punts and stash the extra cash has finally caught up. Wilfried Nancy and his 12 point swing was surely their last mistake, after trashing BR a serial winner, nobody should survive that surely.

Look forward to the summer and big changes including a new HFO and recruitment team, shameful, that it’s come to what they are asking MON try to do, asking for the same players that BR wanted in summer, it’s astonishing.

All totally self inflicted from a position of strength, and two doubles in a row.
