Performance credit remains in Ayrshire

242

It was never going to be Brazil 1970 but Celtic’s 2-0 win over Auchinleck Talbot fell considerably short of even low expectations.  Johnny Kenny scored his first goal in over two months, as the confidence-sapping weeks took their toll on the player.  He is a better finisher than the past 10 weeks have demonstrated.  Hopefully he can start to recover.

All credit from the game goes to Auchinleck Talbot’s players, who threw themselves in front of everything Celtic could muster.  Their performance reminded me of the 1-1 draw Arbroath took from Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup in 2012.  The Angus side performed equally well in the reply, but went down 0-1.  Nothing we watched in that tie could indicate how well 2012 would end for Celtic.

Delighted with the home tie in the next round and although Dundee have already beaten Celtic this season, they are ninth in the Premiership and should be a welcome visitor to Celtic Park.

Hearts’ home loss to Falkirk on penalties adds an interesting dynamic to our visit to Tynecastle next week.  Regarding Hearts, we have been hearing ‘momentum is all’.  That being the case, Sunday will be interesting.

  2. Is Brendan back and I have missed it? Seriously laughable, meanwhile the Board and Lawwell’s useless son don’t get a mention, you’re just trolling yourself now, everyone can see through your self serving propaganda

  3. see that prospect engels – the one who made a decent contribution towards the bayern games -why dont we sell home to make up for the some of the money we have pissed down the drain – result

Looks like Liam Morrison has found his level.

When the rise is fast, the fall, spectacular.

  5. Liam Morrison

“Morrison joined Bayern in August 2019, and later revealed that his main reason for signing was the pathway to the German side’s first team that was laid out to him.”

    Barry Hepburn

last mentioned in the Austrian 2nd division – guessing we might get linked with him again

  6. I’d be ok with Engels going – only bcoz I trust MON to find a powerful midfielder . Engels just didnt rise to the expectations. For someone who has phenomenal corner kick delivery , he doesn’t shoot or score from distance often enough (see the 67 team as the celtic standard for midfield ) . Plenty effort but not enough game changing moments for one of our most expensive players.

Concerning we are having a summit! every day should be a summit since early December. I get we switched gears since Nancy was fired – but surely recruitment has multiple targets in every position.

If we don’t sign a striker before hearts – and hearts beat us – whats the point in singing more for an interim management team. what a mess this board have got us in!

  7. Best football I’ve seen against top opposition ( not spfl). in the last few years …BM away and RB Leipzig home …..loved Ange but huge chunks of luck in certain games against dross

Yes it is a pity the BOARD keeps selling assets …anyone who thinks BR wanted to sell Matt O’Riley ( 26 million ) is seriously needing help.

Watching a programme where everyone is bedecked in Orange. It is Andre Rieu and his orchestra entertaining the Dutch Royal Family in Maastricht. Maastricht is in what was the Catholic part of the Netherlands. Andre himself was an altar server there. Orange doesn’t have the same implications there as it has here.

  15. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on

The board should focus less on public summits and more on signing players if they are serious about winning the league.

However, a fifth consecutive title might not suit the broader Old Firm franchise. With TV rights up for renewal, now is the perfect time for a nail-biting finale, one that goes down to the wire. A scenario where Sevco lifts the trophy and rides off into the Champions League sunset with the revenue would avert another embarrassing financial episode for Scottish football and spare UEFA a headache.

After all, the three-card monte only works if you don’t know the cards are marked.

A wiseman on here SFTB used to say judge the window at the end. He was right, but the difficulty at the moment lasts from the last three before this one opened.

Ironically in the awful DD evisceration statement, he was such an angry man he blurted out at the end he was looking forward to “ strengthening the squad “ revealing he knew it was as BR used to call it ‘ light ‘ IMO One good aspect is the exposure of how the club is clearly run without a normal boardroom in his ( a fiefdom ©️ TBB )

It’s not a normal club, some supporters take the ‘but he’s our billionaire’ factor as a good thing, but the reason we got Wilfried Nancy was to prevent change and keep the so called ‘successful structure’ bid low , sell high, no investment, churn some of the transfer money, bank the rest and tell the manager whoever he is, to get on with it.

Comes unstuck domestically at the merest hint of a challenge but is permanently flawed in CL qualification 7 fails from 9. It could get much worse before it gets better, but giving Sevco a free hit at the CL shouldn’t be an option.

MON is just a caring friend, the best we can hope for is a full restructure of the club, pissed off supporters don’t affect DD his original investment grows every day, so long at we stay within his remit.

Just think what could be achieved by a 60,000 fanbase backed with some ambition on the board, we wouldn’t even need prospectors to report, they’d found hot water in the bogs.

Steeling masel’ the club is going back to the drawing board and that the ugly sister rivalry has been exhumed successfully.

”No idea about football in Saudi”

Well, let me help you out here, since Brendan and JK went to the struggling Al-Qadisiyah in Saudi this has been their results.

    Al-Qadisiyah 1- 1 Damac

    Al- Hazm 1 – 5 Al-Qadisiyah

    Pld 6 W 5 D 1 L 0 GF 20 GA 6 Pts 16

    Not too sloppy eh!?

It proves yet again, Brendan Rodgers is a top manager, earning top do$$ar on his own merit.

Brendan Rodgers was offered a position in Saudi when he left Leicester City – he turned down a very lucrative contract and returned to Celtic.

Before his return, we had seen two seasons of incremental improvement at Celtic under Ange, after Peter Lawwell had left the club as a car crash in 2021.

BR&Co gave us another two seasons of incremental improvement.

So by the time of our 2024/25 UCL campaign put Celtic FC back to where a Club of our stature, history and size belonged.

However, that was not what the Board’s objective was, despite what they told us, they had no ambitions to excel as a football team, certainly not under Brendan Rodgers.

The Board under Peter Lawwell just didn’t do their usual and take profit from the team, they bled the team dry.

Peter Lawwell sold 150 mn in player registrations in his three years as Celtic Chairman.

We know that all the decisions regarding recruitment are finalised by the Board – Micheal Nicholson confirmed this in the meeting between the Celtic Executive and the Celtic fan collective.

You have given the Celtic supporters a bum steer in the last two and a half years, pretending to be the uber-fan in the know, all the while dancing to the Lawwell agenda.

A toxic, machiavellian agenda whose purpose was solely the advancement of the Lawwell faction, if that happened to be at the expense of Celtic FC, so be it.

You work on blame culture, as well as our top tier manager, you try to pin the blame of Lawwell’s mess on the hapless Executive or absentee landlord or anyone else.

The only people not in your sights is the ones mainly responsible – the Lawwell faction that you will do anything to protect, everyone else is thrown under the bus by you and your fellow placemen as you know Lawwell was the architect of this wreckage and needs shielding.

Was the Roger Hannah in The Sun this regime’s lowest point, crass, obnoxious but unfortunately not – just a public manifestation of a covert, mendacious agenda.

We were told that Mark Lawwell was some sort of guru in player recruitment, who would be a huge loss to Celtic and would be swept up by Liverpool or Man Utd – where is he now?

See that’s the thing with you and the other Lawwell agenda merchants, you don’t even have the decency to lie well, just enough to misdirect and muddy the waters.

Working on the premise – “A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots.”

The house that Peter built is being exposed as an empty shell, a total facade, robbed of the family silver.

And although he’s gone, his legacy lives on – as a crippled football club on its knees, devoid of ambition and direction.

We all know Brendan Rodgers is not to blame for this, we all know Micheal Nicholson is a patsy.

Yet who is looking at the real culprits, we are discussing multiple scenarios, discussing your lies, while the truth, the Lawwellian toxic legacy is overlooked.

Well done, you may look a complete prat, credibility down the toilet but you are taking one for the team, it’s still very effective, it is still working.

    Hail Hail

I can assure you Ange did, and as spikeysauldman says his results fell away as he had no interest, his team in the end – fit for the knackers yard.

Ange was tapped up by Spurs, which was the reason Celtic went after them and were awarded compensation for Ange’s departure (Ange was officially out of contract when he joined Spurs, who thought they’d get him on a free.)

Compare that to Leicester City who in 2019 officially approached Celtic and asked for BR&Co.

A record breaking compensation package was negotiated by the Celtic Board and the Leicester owners, before BR&Co left.

The team was in great shape especially when you consider the mess that the Board had made if the previous transfer windows – John McGinn, Marian Shved anyone!?

They went on to win the next five domestic trophies in a row.

In the meantime, the Lawwell faction mounted an anti-Rodgers campaign giving exclusives to Alison McConnell who character assassinated Brendan Rodgers in her mendacious articles, she was forced to change these and the syndicated articles have all been radically re-written to be more reflective of the truth.

Peter Lawwell failed to inform the stock exchange of the 9 mn compensation package Celtic received from Leicester and we only found out about it as it was reported in the Daily Telegraph in England sometime later (“A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots.”)

This is the actions and agenda that ruined our football club’s standing, all for the self interest and enrichment of one faction within the club.

Your common sense posts stand out.

Liked your post with a link to our players more true salary figures rather than the fantasy FSR nonsense some put forward.

DD’s blurting out, certainly gave us some interesting insights, saw this…

“We met with Brendan regularly, including in December last year and at the start of the summer, with regular dialogue in between, to discuss and agree our collective strategy, priorities, and approach.”

Is December 2024 and the start of the summer 2025 “regular”…

    Not in my book…

Also, we have Micheal Nicholson apologising for not achieving what was required in the transfer window, so it doesn’t really matter what was “discussed and agreed” – if the CEO has admitted the Board made a dogs dinner of it.

That statement tells me DD&Co were far too busy with the multi-billion dollar Barchester deal to be interested in what was going on at Celtic.

He let the bulldog off the leash and we are all paying the consequences now.
