Performing with an edge, naked opportunism

1065

If you were a professional football player, you would love to be in the Celtic dressing room tomorrow evening.  You would have the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself; put in a big, meaningful performance.  Record a bit of history and create a uniquely memorable victory.

There are some players who are fraught with anxiety on such occasions, but there are others who NEED these games, need an edge, to reach their peak.  If we have a team full of the latter, Legia are in for a torrid night.

I’m doing my best to ignore the naked opportunism in our media this week.  There is no point complaining about it, lose heavily and you become vulnerable to those who live to revel in a Celtic defeat.  Don’t lose and you don’t give them (friends and foes alike) a chance.

We’ve been here before.  Artmedia, Braga, Utrecht, Sion (despite the reprieve) and Karagandy all exposed an aching heart.  European football is unforgiving, try to transition and you’ll find someone ready to exploit, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong to transition.

We might talk about this transition more later in the month but we have a game to win first.  Can’t wait.

Check out the fantastic work by the cyclists who are taking part in the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014 on 6 September. You can join them – all you need is a bike. Get involved, you’ll be delighted you did, I promise. Read about it here.

  1. It’s for the first time in our history, Polish club in Europe will not be shown in a TV here. Looks like Celtic FC blocked TV signal sale in practice. Celtic FC wanted the stream to be only for Celtic TV. People are upset. I’m upset too.

    Thanks!

I only really read now when I am on holiday and it was a great read.

I liked him a lot, and was delighted he named names.

Did anyone ever sue him after the book was published?

If not, it must’ve been true!

gordybhoy64- have we made any moves to keep him ? A guy told me there will be 7 players out and 7 coming in (good luck with that Ronny)

I have a horrible fear that our chances of going through tomorrow night will be hindered even before KO with Ronny’s team selection.

I think you have hit the nail on the head

For me this will form my opinion of RD (at the minute he is not high up the charts)

I don’t expect us to get past Legia tomorrow night and qualify – but I do expect a glorious in defeat performance I expect to win the game 3-1 or 4-2 that sort of night But my fear is RD “experiments” and looks to be radical and we end up being embarrassed – this will be difficult to take and RD will have a lot of work to do to get me cheering his name

Of course, an early goal for Legia will kill it stone dead.

That is my biggest worry. I personally think we`re out, it`s always fascinating as the week marches on from the first leg how the confidence creeps up. We had the same sort of confidence when we played Xamax, especially with the early penalty which Nicholas, taker of soup, planted firmly on the moon. Same with Atrmedia, fair to say we almost caught them. I fear an early goal from them as we tend to go for the jugular from the off, which could be exploited on the break. Not playing at CP also doesn`t help. I sincerely hope i`m wrong and we skelp them, just canny see us not conceding.

No argument from me – but the new Norwegian plays from the start – also cant see him playing Stokes – I just sense RD is not a Stokes fan

I think he will play same team as last week Izzy in for Ambros (Adam on the right Lustig in the middle)

  11. The problem for me is that there is no substitute leader on the park for Broony.

Who in the squad is capable of driving the team on?

Anyway, I think we will win 8-0.

I’m hoping that he realises the major mistakes he made in team selection last week and addresses this appropriately.

The game on Wednesday night IS NOT ON TELEVISION.

It’s not on cooncil telly, nor any of the Sky Sports channels, BT channels, Premier Sports, the Pub Channel, Dave, Challenge or even Comedy Central.

As a matter of interest, are people aware that if you have Sky or Virgin there is a button on your handset which ACTUALLY LETS YOU CHECK ALL THIS YOURSELF…….

I have to laugh when people have a go at the MSM for being negative about Celtic.

Has anyone been reading this site for the last month or so?

I put it down to the death of the Huns.

Too many people on here miss them – they need them.

    Why is that

They are like them , bigots and bampots

Some of the stuff on here recently is depressing, it’s hateful and in a lot of cases it’s personal.

If supporting Celtic is just to hate Rangers then count me out – not how I was brought up I’m afraid.

I would suggest that if you can’t say something positive – just say what you think – once – but don’t keep saying it ad nauseum – my scrollbar is ready to pack in

Oh a penny for his thoughts (RDs) he is probably aware of public opinion (assumption is he is not so arrogant that he does listen) that he messed up last week – but the big question is does he act or does he ignore

I fear he will play the same team (Izzy at Left Back Lustig in Middle) and play exact same way

I have (well almost) accepted our fate for tomorrow night – but I remain open to the RD experiment – but if we get to Nov/Dec and we are not on top of the league – I’m afraid my support will diminish

Great to see the closing ceremony especially the visuals of Glasgow’s history.

Being a BBC Scotland production I was not surprised to notice editing like many other CQN, a picture of the crest on the gates of the team John Brown played for (Phil), then a shot from the air of the stadium which held the opening ceremony, but it was difficult to read the name of that stadium, an obvious error by the editing team. Then the whole world was treated to one of the greatest bands ever to come from Scotland / Glasgow….Deacon Blue, ardent fans of that team John Brown played for. I am fortunate to have traveled to three corners of the globe with my work and often asked about Glasgow and a Scotland and music. Most folk who like rock and like, often refer to that great band Simple Minds, but never have I ever beaen asked about Deacon Blue, in fact I was a bit miffed that is all we could come up with, then they played the song, the good ship dignity, I LAUGHED AND LAUGHED AND LAUGHED….I have taken a few minutes out from laughing to post this then I will go back to laughing again.

I was at the Simple Minds concert in the stadium that once housed the team that John brown played for and it was a fantastic summers evening, many years later I shook the hand of a friend of one of the roadies, the one who supposedly flew a certain flag from the stadium that that housed the team John brown plated for, I had no interest in the flags that night, just the music and eye candy.

I remember Jim Kerr well, some in my family knew his family and there was a hooray when he got in tow with a famous female. I remember reading many years ago that she was on a popular TV show with Chris Evans and said she was a Fan of the club John brown played for, which was strange. In fact many on a the forum for that club that John brown played for said it was because one of theirs had injected her with their team spirit. There was a whole host of denials about this and even suggestion that it would be preposterous to even suggest the individual had been with her that night as there was a crisis at home and even a hospital visit so it could not have true at all, and therefor there can be no truth of two individuals, one male and one female being stopped early in the morning at the roundabout where the old McDonald hotel used to be and for a caution issued for driving under the influence. In fact this whole post seems like paranoia from another paranoid individual who watched his father struggle to progress in his career because of his ancestry, paranoid I tell Ye.

My son and daughter had the pleasure of the first CL qualifier at Murryfield and they will there again tomorrow, paranoid or not, we will go through.

Either Collins or one of the senior players at the club must have spoken to him surely after last week?!

I’ll head through hoping rather than expecting. He must change some of the personnel from last week if we’re to stand a chance.

  25. Just wondering did any of ye know that the All Ireland Junior Football Championship Semi Finals are on next week. Why do I ask?.

Cos SCOTLAND are playing Cavan in one semi Final. Sat 9th August 6.30pm Granton Road.

  26. Yes, give young Berget a chance, he might come good. Ronny considered him good enough to start last time.

  28. If we don’t qualify on Wednesday and if the reports re FF are true and if we also sell KC and/or VVD, I really do fear for the future of the club.

I appreciate that’s quite a few ‘ifs’, but I don’t think any are unlikely possibilities.

Such a scenario would see attendances of under 25k within weeks.
