Perhaps Airdrie United could rebrand as Rangers United?

1122

I’ve spoken to a few Rangers fans over recent months, the base line of acceptability has been redrawn many times.  If you read back on what was presented as reality on 13 February, when Craig Whyte announced that while it was “business as usual” he applied to the court for a 10 day period to appoint an administrator.

Back then, administration was abhorrent, but suggestions of liquidation were regarded as outrageous.  On 22 February Celtic Quick News asked questions about Improper Registration of Football players, was it possible that Rangers results would have to be re-written as 3-0 defeats for a decade or more?

In March Rangers director (still, I believe) Dave King sent out a new baseline, liquidation was inevitable but there was no question that titles would be taken off Rangers.  Even this concession to liquidation was disputed by the Blue Knight and Duff and Phelps.  Publicly, both still hold to this line, although Duff and Phelps use some creative ideas to get there.

Most now know that liquidation is inevitable.  A few understand that the SPL inquiry into player registration is likely to result in five or more league titles being reallocated to Celtic, but I don’t hear anyone accepting the reality of the situation.

Rangers don’t have a buyer, primarily as the administrators don’t have a stadium they can sell.  Even if they try to remain in administration for next season, Ticketus own the majority of their income.  It will cost countless millions to pull a deal together, much more than the £11.2m Bill Miller considered putting on the table, and no one is coming up with that kind of money.

In the unlikely event these problems are resolved, whatever club emerged would have to deal with the fallout from players refusing to join a Newco and becoming free agents, football fines debts from Oldco, SFA penalties, Newco penalties if preferential treatment is provided in order to get them into a higher league, and SPL penalties for Improper Registration of Players.

There are two simple solutions.  Form a new club, ask to share Firhill or Love St – or better still, rent Cathkin Park (reset ambition for Rangers as the new Third Lanark), and apply for entry to the Scottish Football League.  Alternatively, co-opt a lower league club, maybe Airdrie United could help, rename it and spend however many years as it takes trying to acquire whatever parts of Ibrox survives liquidation.

This is a controlled and predictable way forward, a concept not delivered by Duff and Phelps, totally in the control of whoever wants to harvest fallout from the demise of the Rangers brand.

Is it Craig Whyte in discussions with businessman or the administrators.

Not for you to answer as I’m sure you don’t know (or if you did, you couldn’t say) but I’m just curious as to what they are offerring now that they didn’t want to offer to D&P prior to any of their previous “deadlines”.

I’m thinking it could be Peter Risdale.

So many guesses,So many rumours So few facts that is how I see the plight of Rangers while I want to see them dead and buried part of me just cant see it being allowed to happen. The powers that be in Scottish football will be leaving no stone unturned to try and save them rules will be broken with impunity. Why have MSM been so quite on this ? why has Sir David Murray been let of so lightly? i believe they have closed ranks over Ibrokes way and they will do everything possible to save Rangers..If I am wrong which I hope I am I will be delighted to see this evil part of Scotland die as they have spread there bile for to many years.H.H.

I quite clearly said keep quiet on the FTT

Paul67 stated on Friday that he expected a Newco to get voted through. Very recently he spoke that it could all hang on Motherwell

I suggest that you talk to him about it and not not me. His opinion is valued and if that sets the ball rolling intentionally or not I dont care. But to then be subject to parental type scalding IS PATHETIC and frankly doesn´t wash with anyone. Especially when you and he are as guilty of hindsight as everyone else

The board though should be asking for clarification on certain matters

Off the top of my head.

Why did they chose to exercise discretion when recently choosing not to expel Rangers. These matters set precedents for the future

The new SPL proposed regulations. I can think of about 20 questions alone surrounding this exceptional activity.

The Board need to treat their own customer with more respect

They dont tell us cos its policy. To be frank it allows them to do a complete u turn in policy any time they want and that is why its is as it is

My tuppence worth the Bored are doing a fine job saying nothing. This is not a Celtic problem. It is good to be alive in this most unique moment in history and a right good laugh as well but there are serious consequences for Celtic fans if the Bored say anything that could distact from the Circus. Celtics very position in not speaking shouts volumes. On occasion NL has managed to slip in the sporting integrity and cheatin huns comments and he is mouthing the Bored however this is well short of a public announcement follow followed by Celtic destoyed Rangers lets kill a few. So aw naw know what you are saying but aw naw for me keep the powder dry and then use it wisely. Guys faulks under the big house and a simple spark from a cleg will put it all up. Be patient and like RogueLeader says enjoy the moment, savour it, roll off the couch laughing. I look forward to my rolling around the floor moment every day. Rangers til July. Scratcher. Happy dreams who was it who talked about the photo at the gates of Mordor with the big lock. That’ll do me.

I don’t expect this to be a popular view but it’s MY view nonetheless ..

Post Liquidation Huns are an excellent business opportunity that will be taken up. Personally I would think if Someone had £40m to invest it would make sense. ( for clarity I have about £40. – so a non starter)

I would consider trying for Hampden for 3 season. I’m sure the SFA would be only too willing to help..!

With no debts the Huns have a chance. From a business perspective few companies or products have a GAURANTEED market like Rangers ( except Celtic).

They probably have a distance to go in terms of saturating their market- as do Celtic.

I think they will reemerge shamed by their immoral disposal of debt but ready to secure 2nd place in SPL for the foreseeable future. Within 5 years they will be contenders again.

For the rest of my life they will be tarnished with shame but they will survive in some form.

CFC Board have a gollden opportunity to put distance between us and them that could ensure they are also runs for a very long time.

Better still Lawwell and co will work our ticket out of SPL and leave behind a very competitive league.

When used improperly,as in RFCIA’s case,as a huge tax scam, then they are illegal.

There’s too many obstacles/risks in the way for any non RFC(IA) supporting businessman to plough millions into them. Doesn’t make sense. Even a Newco after liquidation will cost a fortune to start up.

The Sun’s story smacks of a favour to D&P’s to deflect from yesterday’s debacle. The newspaper will be rewarded with a true exclusive some way down the line.

Being in Brussels doing something completely different and thus probing Rangers part-time is less than ideal but I can now reveal something of what’s been going on and where we are now headed.

Broadly, the Scottish Sun story is correct this morning so cap duly doffed etc – but there’s a lot more to it of course. I can reveal that the group of England-based businessmen with UK big-football club experience has, in fact, been in talks with Rangers Administrators Duff and Phelps for around a week.

That is, all the time that D&P were staging “bogus” press statements at Ibrox and giving pitch-side interviews, they were also talking to this group at least, and possibly at least one more outside-bidder from beyond the UK.

As Channel 4 News indicated last week, much of the whole Miller-meltdown appears now to have been little more than a very public “smoking-out” exercise to see if the Tennessee Trucker really was serious or liked what he saw at Ibrox when he looked at the books or heard the Bears growl “Yanks Out” and other welcoming noises.

Craig Whyte is certainly serious about the Sassenach Saviours and is talking with them today and tomorrow. My information is that, unlike the Miller’s Tale (with apologies to Geoffrey Chaucer), we are now talking something more real with individuals whom it would not be helpful to name at this point.

As one at the heart of it all said:

“Alex – you can certainly say the next 24 to 48 hours are vital for Rangers Football Club.”

And this time around I’d be strongly inclined to say this is more credible stuff after last weeks Caledonian-American ceilidh-of-the-absurd.

So where’s Craigy? The majority shareholder of Rangers, Craig Whyte is talking, talking seriously I believe. And he is shifting. Not long ago he was asking whistfully for £30 million from a club you’d do well to extract 30p from, just now.

I’d say that position’s changed or changing as we speak. He will, I know, be extremely angry at all the time this has taken and the turbulent courtship of Mr Miller will have improved nobody’s mood around these talks.

In sum: expect an English-led deal from people with genuine football experience, minded to avoid liquidation via a CVA (which will be treated like a Newco, UEFA tell me with a 3 year ban), and expect Craig Whyte to agree a final exit strategy.

I’m saying expect something like this to be put on the table, that is not the same as expect this to happen.

But…but…this is Rangers Football Club. I’ve done what I can to map it til, say, Friday but…check against delivery.

    OG Rafferty

Right, but they surely don’t propose to deal with the big tax case via a CVA, right?

  14. Paul your suggestion is all very well- it is the only viable alternative they have left to them- but there is one thing you forget: it presumes the horde could ever be lucid enough to accept reality; of course it would be a massively scaled down reality that presupposed an ability for der hun to embrace a reasonable sense of modesty. A developing capacity for humility that recognised things will never be as they have been in the past- that all is irrevocable altered, never to be the same, may be a reality too wide in scope for a deluded group like the Rankers mass to ever acknowledge…in my opinion it would be a seismic shift in consciousness, akin to the earth turning on its axis…a miracle of biblical proportions.

It is safe to say such an event could never happen.

  16. Awe_Naw – I am 100% sure the board have indeed done everything you have suggested, they will have made enquiries etc based on the hypotheticals. They have to, so they can plan themselves and so they can ensure they know where things are going. It is their legal duty to do so.

However I don’t see what purpose is served by issuing statements to the fans based on hypothetical situations. Since this merry-go-round began how many “outcomes” have been plastered all over the papers now? 3, 4, 5? Are Celtic to communicate with people their view on each and every one as they happen? Sorry my friend, that is madness.

Celtic can only communicate their stance to their fans when something has happened to communicate on.

All that has happened so far is a team of administrators have made a royal pigs ear of their job allowing us to wet ourselves laughing on a daily basis.

Sadly, that isn’t material for a press release….

It’s not that straightforward. They will have no European football for three seasons and virtually no gate revenue for four years – just two reason why they will be hamstrung for years.

No one with any sense will pump £40m into a Scottish football club faced with the prospect of losing almost the same amount in the first four years.

  18. Like many Celtic supporters, I am currently in a state of absolute mental and emotional turmoil over the whole Rangers’ saga, the potential behaviour or misbehaviour of the Scottish football authorities, the decisions of other clubs, the media and, not least, the stance of the Celtic Board. In a desperate search for an aphrodisiac, I came across this soothing definition that I would suggest might be helpful for those suffering from any intellectual headaches or mental indigestion brought about by the cocktail of advice and conclusions from several of our seemingly modern Brahan Seers.

“Wisdom is a deep understanding and realisation of people, things, events or situations, resulting in the ability to apply perceptions, judgements and actions in keeping with this understanding. It often requires control of one’s emotional reactions (the “passions”) so that universal principles, reason and knowledge prevail to determine one’s actions. Wisdom is also the comprehension of what is true coupled with optimum judgment as to action.”

I think many of us including Paul 67 are being blinded by our own wishfull thinking as Celtic supporters it seems only natural to me that we would love to see Rangers fold completely. However, Rangers are part of the Scottish fabric they are the establishment team.no stone will be left unturned in the quest to find somone or a group of investors who will be willing to put forward a rescue package..So Bhoys enjoy there struggle but dont celebrate there death just yet.H.H.

  24. Gordon_J – D&P themselves said on Thursday a CVA is impossible.

HMRC guidance states they will vote against a CVA if the debt is accrued via using PAYE/NIC as cashflow or avoidance / evasion schemes.

There will be a consortium talking I am sure, unless they have 100p in the pound for HMRC, and therefore by extension all creditors, talking is all they will be doing.

  25. Gordon:

If that is the case, then I am very glad that when I was paper boy Celtic Park was not part of my round.

  26. Regards the English based businessmen preparing an ‘offer’

It is my understanding that to arrange a CVA will take circa 6 weeks. That is nearing the end of June. The players wages go back to their previous levels on June 1st. They (D+P)have no money to pay those wages
