Persistent poor performances

173

For the third time in a month, Celtic lost three goals in a game to Scottish opponents.  This is not a one-off, it is not a consequence of misfortune, poor refereeing, or injuries.

With 20% possession, Dundee can consider themselves unfortunate that a late penalty denied them the win.

You and I have discussed the need for Brendan to sort things. He is a fortunate general, his domestic opponents have both capitulated and the two crucial games ahead are at home. Not that will dissuade Kilmarnock or Young Boys. The manager has work to do.

  1. I can smell how bad this Aberdeen team are over here.Woeful, and this idiot The in thinks 2 subs is enough.About 8 need hooked.

That Aberdeen team would struggle against a half decent junior outfit . Unbelievably poor .

  3. My eyes are bleeding after watching that. The Guns,to be honest just a wee bit better.Horrendous,talentless,game.

    Arsenal beat Spurs.

Deserved to win .. but you can tell Arteta spent time at Ibrox.

He’s turned the whole club into an angry, snarling outfit.

  6. It’s a very weird 12-game collapse by Aberdeen since November.

And their board has gone all in with Thelin by backing him to buy new players in this window.

They seem like a side totally devoid of confidence or conviction. Wonder what causes that.

IMO the currants aren’t shoite; but do seem moderately efficient in implementing their game style.

Scoring at the death means the press will have Dessers topping Real Madrid and Liverpool’s transfer target list.

Even when Aberdeen were sitting second during that early season run , they were scraping single goal wins . They lost their most dangerous attacker (Gueye) in September and the goals dried up ,as did the points . They now look as if they’ve totally lost impetus and confidence in all areas of the pitch .

  9. What’s happened to the Aberdeen team that competed for every ball, and kicked everything that moved at CP in October?

  10. Tinytim,

One result when your opponents just don’t turn up means fek all.I was at Celtic Park when Lubo scored a couple and we gubbed them 5-1.Won nothing.Bad days come and go for us to be replaced by hundreds of good ones.

13 points tells its own story after that defeat.Meant nothing in the grand scheme.

Once again I’d to watch a top English game on mute.

McCoist is unbearable. He constantly repeats the same one liners, offers no proper analysis and just sucks up to his commentator, usually Fletch.

Christ knows how this fake has managed to get more jobs than the Job Centre.

‘They seem like a side totally devoid of confidence or conviction. Wonder what causes that.’

    A 6-0 pumping in a semi final.

Prior to that unbeaten, plenty of belief and conviction, and coming into semi full of confidence

It dissipated the longer the game went on.

I do wish jimmy thelin all the best,i didnt see the game, those who did watched seem touched and scared.like brushing teeth with a sharp knife was one comment.

My point: ‘They seem like a side totally devoid of confidence or conviction. Wonder what causes that.’

Your point: A 6-0 pumping in a semi final.

Yes a pumping can derail confidence, but we suffered a 7-goal Dortmund doing and came back even stronger. Demoralisation can occur but – as we showed – its consequences needn’t be permanent.

However in Thelin’s case, his board has backed him yet his players are not playing the same tigerish way for him. Maybe he isnt the football messiah after all, but just a guy who got an elongated new manager jag.

TBH, I don’t really care about the Dons’ woes; just find it interesting as a phenomenon.

Did you think that when he won us the cup ?

Thelin is new here,i am glad he is getting backing,i hope they pick up,loosing their scorer was material to them.

It is an interesting phenomena, lets see how they get out of it

    Adam is not fully fit.

The miss from Kyogo’s set up is indicative.

Adam actually shows very good pace over a distance to get into position.

The decision he makes isn’t a bad one.

But his timing is off due to a lack of sharpness.

And he fresh air swipes instead of deftly flicking over the keeper as he intended.

I suspect it’ll be next season before we see him at his best consistently.

    Preseason eh?

If you miss it you rarely can catch up.

Still, at least his unprofessional rebellion against Norwich tickled a few Celtic fans.

Do you honestly think drawing 3-3 with a rangers team in the LC final then losing 0-3 to them 0-0 at United and 3-3 at Dundee is an improvement on the pre Leipzig form ?

You genuinely don’t see an alarming trend in us being given a serious test by teams who spend a fraction of our transfer and wage bill. Both at home and Europe.

    ———/

Apologies for taking so long to come back.

I don’t see an alarming trend – what I do see is a team successful on all fronts this season. I see work in progress towards building to improve our European credentials. I see a squad being reshaped, window by window, with new players and those surplus to requirements being moved on. I see a heavy recent schedule taking the edge off of some performances and some players. I see a determination to stay the course. I (hope) see a treble this season(we are two-thirds there) and qualification to the next (24)stage in the CL

The only thing I can’t fathom is the how and why of the Ibrox performance – it is a complete outlier and I have just accepted it as such. HH

Only problem is I’ve got a 100 mile round trip in the morning for Grandson’s football match. Just as well it’s a 5:30 kick off.

  24. Interesting that their strategy starting to show green shoots. Whilst we are moving in the opposite direction.

They sign a young potential talent for £2m and genuinely develop him and could cash in handsomely this summer as he is scoring goals for fun playing in a poor team.

We sign a ‘proven quality’ player in the same position for £9m plus and Brendan ‘develops him’ and he seemingly can’t score a goal.
