Perspective, please!

With post-split fixtures confirmed there is clarity on what is needed to win the league and a bit more optimism in some places.  Celtic play a day before Newco on each of the next three league fixtures (one before the split).  That is not an advantage until you win the games, but if you do, pressure is added to those who follow.

The order of Celtic’s games is interesting.  The final three look most difficult [Newco (H), Motherwell (A), Hearts (H)], but there are five weeks before the first of those fixtures.  That gives us time to build fitness into the legs of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kelechi Iheanachio, Arne Engels, Callum Osmand and Julian Araujo.  If we arrive at these games with as fit a squad as we have had all season, you would fancy Celtic to win all three.

It is some consolation we do not have Fir Park on the last day, I’m not sure any of our nerves would cope with that.  Instead, it will be Hearts, who will not roll over, but we need to beat them at some point.  Ignore nonsense about Hearts having a free shot if Celtic are out of it by then, this will not happen.  As I have been saying for months, the league title will stay in Glasgow.

The fixtures give a sense of relief because we have just come through a seven game run where six were away from home.  Five wins, a draw at Ibrox and a solitary defeat at Tannadice does not suggest Celtic are teetering on the brink, no matter what your most doom-ladened pal tells you.  That series could have finished our league challenge and seen us out of the cup.  Instead, we are within striking distance of the top of the table and in the semifinal.  Perspective, please!

  1. GCC and their Safetly Advisory Group have agreed to let the Green Brigade, so kind of them.

Just wonder if they will have a wee look at the fiasco which unfolded at greyskull a couple of weeks back

Safe standing, rail seating is a Celtic innovation and The North Curve is one of the good things to happen to the stadium, unless you prefer disco lights and sweetie paper rustling.

Celtic like the GB, and ahem know a good money spinner when they see one, they initiated the GB and it’s effect on the stadium where younger supporters join in, even CQNrs move to the NC, with the singing section, that’s where it should begin and end, with any Ultra groups.

Yeah, and of course a good old “old firm title race” is much better than European progression and winning the league by 15 points…..

  9. This season has given us too much feckin perspective to paraphrase Nigel from Spinal Tap but there were signs on Sunday of some of what we’ve been missing and we’re in as good form as anyone else.

To add to the returning players it would be good to see Araujo or Aj back to give us a bit more down that flank, even if it is for the last three games

  10. Perspective I suppose is relative. In terms of the shambles of a season we’ve endured, 50 goals down on last season, 8 league defeats already etc then yes, our current position is a good one.

I’d rather be in our position with our fixtures than anyone else’s.

Good to see a bit of optimism.

On paper, I think we can win the league, but my concerns are inconsistency and injuries.

The laws of probability suggest we wont lose twice at home to Hearts / Rangers or lose 6 points away at Easter Rd and Fir Park.

But can we win all 6 league and hopefully 2 cup games – not sure.

We have been plagued by non contact leg injuries all season.

We may get Engels, Araujo, Osmand etc., back, but there is almost an inevitability around 1 in, 1 out for the treatment table.

    Hope I am wrong

Another factor which may or may not play a part in the run in, is the fact that the post split fixtures do not start for two weeks after our home game against St Mirren this Saturday. Because, lets not forget, we are in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, the result of winning @ Ayebrokes, which led to the now all but forgotten peaceful riot. Oh yes! As John (road cone) Major was wont to exclaim. Got to beat the Saints first of course, after which four of the top six will have their own little mini break before the SPL battles recommence. Hearts might benefit from that, they’ve got both Cammy Devlin and Shankland back, and according to their (quite impressive) website Stuart Findlay is back to to fitness and Harry Milne is back in training, two of their more impressive players for much of the season. Brought in four players in January as well. Unlike Paul67 I wouldn’t be too hasty in writing the Jambos off just yet, especially if they beat Motherwell @ home on Saturday. Same 15.00pm kick off as us, time to dust down that wee transistor radio and get some new batteries from the poundshop. If it’s still in business that is? Times are hard.

  30. King Lubo @12.06,

Yes,great to see the GB back, but it had nothing to do with,SAG,or the Police, both of whom do not have the power, never did.Which means, they did not lift the ban.Someone at Celtic ordered the ban the chief suspect being Hargreaves.True or not,it was either him,or one or more of the Board through sheer spite. They

hated being called to account by fans who can see the shambles they have presided over.

Hargreaves himself, has been an enemy of the GB since he was top cop.The first Kettling of fans at Glasgow Cross way back, his doing.Since then he has had a long running feud with them. There was uproar when he got the job.

It boils down to once again the fans have been blatantly lied to by Celtic. They imposed the ban,and they lifted it.No one else.

Sutton would say Celtic never died because when CELTCO got promoted in 2016, Rangers fans went along with the Rangers vs Celtco/Celtic ticket cover up and they all bought 49 quid old firm tickets to seal the deal.

We wouldn’t have been able to pull this scam off without the help of the wonderful Rangers fans.

  33. Turkeybhoy,

I am glad the GB are back. They have paid their money and should be accommodated where possible. They are noisy and colourful and even if they don’t sing many actual Celtic songs, many supporters especially children like the spectacle.

However can Ultras stay within set boundaries and remain law abiding. We shall see.

If we take the rose tinted specs off.

We have had incidents of violent and threatening behaviour, some vividly described on here by fellow Celtic supporters. Also reported drug taking and numerous breaches of safety policy with public order offences.

Of course any head of security, especially a former law enforcement person will cross swords with them.

With their ” Pig Watch” and ACAB mantra it is inevitable that they will be off any law enforcement Christmas list.

I don’t know if you have been in Glasgow or surrounding areas lately but the amount of vandalism and Graffiti they and the Onion Pears indulge in is off the scale now. ( Shown loud and proud on their own social media sites )

Put frankly they are contributing to the dreadful state of our once great and historic city. Subsequently all actions have consequences and it is the hard pressed City’s Council tax payers who have to pick up the tab.

But back to the football and the GB’s actual rationale to exist: Let’s hope they can contribute to grinding out a very possible double.
