Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

Are you sure it was Zaluska that made the save in 40 seconds?

I was watching the game on Sky and according to dobby provan big Fraser was in goal.

  2. Thought Paddy’s range of passing was fantastic, I was saying before the game I think he should start most games, I think he gives us the spark that no other Celt can.

He has given Lenny food for thought

    No he’s not!

He’s got no chance of playing in the next game.

    And we all know it!

    Shame.

  4. Adam Matthews 4m, Ki 6m!!! If Liverpool can pay 20m for Jordan Henderson then they can pay 10m plus for Matthews and Ki!! Time to play hard ball with the EPL clubs thinking they can penny pinch us!!

  5. Good win today for the Bhoys, and a good run out for one or two of the fringe players.

Well done Stoksie, that man is having a great season for us.

I hope we get a home game in the draw tomorrow: that’s 3/3 away matches we’ve had this season between the LC and SC.

    Time for some home comforts.

  6. Only able to listen to the game on radio Scotland,McLeod. Didn’t say one positive about Paddy.I was so disappointed as I thought this would be his chance to prove once again how good he is.It proves one thing McLeod is a fud.Slan

Thought Paddy was MOM as well, do you have info that he might be off, I think he would stay if he was given a more regular start.

Also thought McGeough looks a very good young player very confident and wanted to be involved in everything when he came on

  8. Fouls committed: Peterhead 17 Celtic 4

Well you’d expect the lower league team to commit more fouls.

    No, wait a minute.

Fouls committed: Arbroath 9 Rangers 14

    Something is not right.

Timfaetx. I agree with you 100% if they want the players they have to pay big money for them and Lennie must get the lions share of the cash to strengthen the team.H.H.

That puts him one inch taller than Kris Commons, who might well be on his way.

    No info on Paddy!

He is the one real creative player we have in midfield, but lenny disny fancy him when he’s fit.

I’d play Paddy before Ki any day.

    In my opiunion of course.

  12. Paddy McCourt now on 31 points out of 33, or 93.93%, for matches started.

  13. Joe Filippis Haircut & up_over_goal

He seems to be a tidy player with some talent, though what’s he going to be like in the SPhell?

He’ll need to get used to the tackle from behind and booted about for fun.

  14. I posted yesterday, when RFC go belly up shortly do you think we should apply for the spare licence and start a team for our reserves in Div. 3 to give them valuable experience to see if they can make the grade.

Then any NewCo from RFC would have to buy another club to get the licence.
