Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

  1. for me Rangers v Ross county would be best…..Home for Rangers incurs cost and fairly low discounted crowd, shared gate with no TV money ……and county would beat them…. away would be small crowd and maybe no TV money if there were 2 other good all SPL ties…..

So, Jelavic is off to Chelsea then. Bit of a no brainer really given that London is ‘an interesting place’ and he wants to play in a team from that city with Champions League ambitions. And of course, with AVB in town today to mark Sally’s examination papers, what better time to do a deal.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the most profitable team in the EPL has just signed Thierry Henry on loan, while the biggest team by income in the EPL has coaxed Paul Scholes out of retirement? Meantime big spenders Man City are snookered on Uefa’s FFP criteria following their huge investment in players and salaries last year, while 25% of those teams from position 9 downwards will be relegated, precipitating a financial crisis in the midst of a decade of huge losses.

In this environment, £10Million for Jelavic is somewhat unlikely….

I’ve just seen Kompany’s red card against ManU. Looks totally harmless compared to McCulloch’s reckless lunge that has put Kayal out for the rest of the season. Scottish football is unique.

    …….

It was totally harmless, it wasn’t even a foul IMO

Morning all – good win yesterday. Hate the lead up to these games that we should win comfortably and the inevitable ICT/Ross County memories from the ‘impartial’ pundits and commentators – you can hear their desire for us to slip up in every word.

Protection from the ref is not to be expected but surprised at McInally’s comments prior to the game and his comments after regarding the Ledley elbow incident being a “clash of heads” – is he blind! Job done and move on – hopefully Ledley isn’t out injured.

Anyhoo, has anyone else noticed the annoying way fishSupper Sally starts the majority of his sentences:

“I can tell you right now…”

“I’ll tell you this for nothing…”

    “What I will say is….”

    He sounds like Rab C Nesbitt……only fatter……….and uglier………and stupiderer.

    Hail Hail

On 22 July 2011, a day before Rangers opening match of the season against Heart of Midlothian, it was announced that Jelavić would wear the number nine shirt for the 2011-12 season he had previously worn the number 18. On 30 August 2011, it was reported that Rangers had rejected a £6.5m bid from Championship club Leicester City for Jelavić[17] and also an apparent bid from an unnamed club for 9 million pounds on Transfer Deadline Day. Jelavic scored his first European goal for Rangers on 3 August 2011 in a 1-1 draw against Malmö in a UEFA Champions League qualifying game.[18] On 5 November 2011 Jelavic scored his first brace of the season helping Rangers to a 3-1 victory over Dundee United. In the January Transfer window, Jelavic was heavily linked with Liverpool, and after much speculation, Jelavic said he was flatterd and admitted he would like a move to a Premier League team like Liverpool. On the 9 January Jelavic was going to discuss his transfer away from Ibrox, with boss Ally McCoist, with Anfield the most likely destination.

  7. TBB- “In this environment, £10Million for Jelavic is somewhat unlikely”

I think you are being diplomatically kind there….

EPL teams will use games against us, Europe and International to judge SPL players.

Jelavic’s stats in those games are not very impressive. Is injury record is also poor. He is a 25 game per season man.

No way will anyone pay £10m for the glass ankled Croat. They will be extremely lucky to get half of that IMO.

  8. tomtheleedstim – I think so but it’s quite possible that a Total Recall type memory implantation thing has been going on.

No,it doesn’t end anything like that.

That you think it does,or even suggest it does,is why you just do not understand the underclass that exists in this country,or elsewhere.

Or even recognise it’s existence in the first place.

  17. CELTIC TV is returning to television screens with three hours of Celtic action to be broadcast every Monday evening by Premier Sports, the sports channel operator on Sky channel 433. And it all kicks off next Monday, January 16.

Celtic TV will have a dedicated three-hour block that will include a full match replay of the team’s game from the weekend, including all home games not shown live.

To complement the full matches there will be classic Celtic archive and also pre and post-match analysis during the three-hour block.

If Celtic’s weekend game has not been shown on SKY/ESPN live, Celtic TV will be broadcast between 6pm and 9pm with the first full match broadcast beginning at 7.15pm. If the game has been on live, then programming will be between 9pm and midnight.

The block will be repeated a minimum of once per week at a fixed time to be confirmed.

Richard Webb, Director of Operations at Premier Sports commented: “We’re excited to be able to partner Celtic and give them a club channel presence on television once again.

“Although we have covered a number of Celtic games in Europe and pre-season games over the last two seasons, we are delighted to be able to offer up all-year-round content including games not shown on television.

“I believe this is good news for all involved, with club getting extra income streams and also a platform on our Sky 433 channel which is broadcast throughout the UK.

“This is a great opportunity for fans not to miss a moment of the action as we head into the second half of the season and the title run-in.

“At the moment we are only available on Sky so would ask fans on Virgin to contact them and request our channel be added.”
