Peterhead 0-3 Celtic

671

The game was only 42 seconds old when Peterhead’s David Ross was sent clean through on Lukasz Zaluska after some excellent approach play but the Celtic keeper was alert enough to collect the ball and prevent the home team’s only chance of the game.  Anthony Stokes scored a hat trick and had a further two goals disallowed for offside as Celtic progressed into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

Stokes looked most likely to score from the off.  Samaras fed the Irishman on 14 minutes but his shot was blocked.  Ki then played a forward pass inside the Peterhead right back to the overlapping Cha.  Cha’s cutback found Stokes, who leaned back in the act of shooting and fired over.  Just before the half hour mark Charlie Mulgrew passed a corner on the deck to Ki, who took a touch and shot against the crossbar from the edge of the D.  Keeper Jarvie then saved well from a Mulgrew free kick.

Celtic opened the scoring on 35 minutes with a classic Centenary goal when Paddy McCourt swivelled in the centre of the field before playing a forward ball for Samaras to run onto.  The Greek striker reached the ball inside the 18-yard-box and squared with his first touch to Stokes who knocked the ball into an empty net.

Shortly before half time Samaras carried the ball 80 yards before crossing for Stokes who finished well inside the 6-yard-box but he was flagged for offside.

Stokes second came on 57 minutes when Emilio Izaguirre dribbled into the box before playing a smart 1-2-3 with Stokes, who found what looked like an impossible space inside Jarvie’s right hand post.

Stokes was now on fire and could have added a third a moment later when he controlled a Mulgrew corner inside the ball but pulled his shot wide from 6 yards.  The striker completed his hat trick on 82 minutes a few seconds after substitute Dylan McGeough entered the field and dribbled into the box.  The ball was cleared to Wanyama to pushed it right to Brown who then sent it onto Stokes who made no mistake.

Defo not Black! He’s a right big hun!

I think Broony can do Kayal’s job, while still having big Vic doing his role

This could also allow Commons back in the team, or Ledley

All is well that ends well! 3-0, hopefully Joe is ok, and a good run out for Paddy McCourt. With Kayal out for who knows how long it is important that players are available for selection. good hat trick from Anthony Stokes, a player who is prepared to stand up for the team, but also got on well with the Peterhead players and supporters, nice touch. Let us see if him and the hoops can get thirty goals a piece, both are half way there. A home tie would be nice, just as well Auchinleck Talbot are out or we would have found ourselves down there! Looking ahead to next Saturday already.

Sorry to hear that you are ill.

I hope the fever breaks soon and you return to rational thought! :>)

  6. Sadies bhoy. I think it’s Ian Black although Eric might still be looking for a job. As for Ian, no thanks.

Re Neil Warnock, quite like him after he said Jimmy Bullard was mental when he asked for stupid money to join us. Told him he should walk to Celtic and never mind about the money.

I think Eric is the wrong side of 40 now, maybe lacking a bit of match firness

  8. See you lot. If we don’t sign Eric Black (loved macanbheatha’s comment btw) and we don’t win this league. You’ll all be hearing from me at the end of the season!

Not often I disagree with your sage-like utterings but…

Paddy had a great game today.

Not, admittedly he didn’t do a run where he went past 6 opposition players before slotting home the perfect finish but then, come to think of it, who was the last Celtic player to achieve such a feat?

Ah, yes, our Paddy no less!

He passed very well, kept possession and was a constantly creative influence; I like that Paddy too.

Am I right in hearing that Pascal Feindouno is looking for pastures new?

We’re down a creative midfielder and Lenny will never play Paddy so whats not to like about profiting from poor old Sion’s misfortune?

Tell him that 10k is still on the table…

    Is Bangura injured?

I sincerely hope that is the explanation why he didn’t make the game today; any other and he really is finished with us…

  12. Young Hoops finished 7th out of 8 in the Mercedes Benz indoor tournament in Stuttgart, accodring to my Bhoy who was there. They did however beat VFB Stuttgart (Tournament hosts) in the last game. Great experience for our young Bhoys!

  16. Been a daft day,we had EPL refs acting like MIB`s , The Orcs discovering new sensations in their squad, Paddy plays 90 minutes, Davie Provan forgets to take his wakey up pills, Downing at Liverpool gets arrested meanng King Kenny has to order another 25 t-shirts, then Warnock gets sacked and Neil Lennon calls it a crazy decision. However the top dafty momemt comes when someone suggests Ian Black as Kayals replacement !!!! Nurse , the screens!!!

“…Celtic battled their way to a place in the fifth round….against a stubborn Peterhead…………The Hoops struggled”
