Let’s be clear, the role of president of the SFA is one of the most sought-after in football. Alongside the FA, FA of Wales and Irish FA, the Scottish FA hold one of the four permanent members of the International Football Association Board – the body which controls the rules of the game and exerts soft influence on all structures below it, including Fifa.
Current SFA vice president, Rod Petrie, has his sights set on the job when current president, Alan McRae, retires. Rod has a problem, though. He was chair of the SFA Licensing Committee in March 2011, when Oldco Rangers were licenced to participate in Uefa competition the following season.
That decision is now under scrutiny, as High Court evidence forced the Association to examine what happened at the time. If Petrie is to survive in office long enough to assume the position of president, he needs allies who prepared to back him over what he did, or did not do, in March 2011.
How he is getting on with this I don’t know, but what we know for sure is that he backed Dave King’s call to have Gary Hughes removed from the SFA board over his “great unwashed” comment from years ago. Petrie is no friend of Newco, but there is co-dependency there. Gary Hughes was collateral damage.
Petrie should be recused from any work in connection with the awarding of a Uefa licence to Rangers in 2011. This award was made under his supervision yet he has remained active in how it is examined – a concerning governance failure. If the Licensing Committee is found to have failed to uphold its responsibilities, Petrie must go.

BRTH, also listened to Theobald Wolfe Tone tonight, could never decide on which was more influential(on me).
Emmet was certainly eloquent, Tone more succinct. For me Emmet had ore impact not he Establishment.
If I had to choose I’d stick with Emmet, for those who do not know Irish history, they will know phrases from that speech, impact.
History will not overlook those who took part in 1916.
Well, nowhere but in the UK of course, uncomfortable history isn’t taught in schools.
Pearse, I agree, he has been an hero, inspiration for me through life.
I don’t think any from that era are overlooked. but then we could write out their names in a verse!
We do well to remember our heroes.

Had a listen between appointments.
Fantastic speech in what must have been the most trying of circumstances. Defiant, determined and unrepentant to the very end.
Amazed at the vast courage of a man to speak like that, thoroughly enjoyed it,cheers.

Good morning, friends.
Another lovely dry morning in ole EK, deserving of a 1 hour walk to work. Particularly as I then finish at lunchtime for a 19-day break (14 of which to be spent in Puerto Pollensa).
LIfe’s very good. And I’m very blessed.
Be nice.
Good morning good ghuys and ghirls from a dry and humid Garngad
Jobo enjoy your break.
We are not going away until October then the end of the year, and I am getting so jealous of everyone going away over the coming weeks.
I might try and see if we can get a last minute deal when my wife stops, when glasgow schools stop.
Anyway have a good day all.

Being at the airport with the usual flight delay I had time to look at a few papers this morning. Every one of the. Reports credibly for the gun on their attempts to ban anyone who may have any connection to Celtic being either at the sea or SPFL. Kings attempt to discredit any investigation is also favourably reported.
Now of course Scotland and it’s media are institutionally biased (and racist). So that’s no surprise.
But both Celtics and the sfa and SPFL saying nothing allows only one voice to be heard and for an agenda and a story to be set.
Celtic I particular are allowing a tone that days any connection whatsoever with Celtic cannot be tolerated in positions of power at the sea etc.
Why?
It doesn’t make sense.
You guys can feel all high and mighty and roll your eyes at king. But we are allowi g him to set a one sided agenda.
Why?
What purpose does it serve?
And to those of you who say don’t dignify it with a response or it’s none of Celtics business you are 100% wrong.
Let me make a prediction for you. The hun will escape any sanction and the suggestion will be made that the recent prosecutions were made by rabid Celtic supporters. Any semblance of so called power will be extinguished in a witch hunt for Celtic supporters holding any authority.
Paul will wring his hands a little before telling us it’s all ok cos we are doing well.
If I didn’t know better I think this is an orchestrated attempt at ensuring only certain coals can be raked over at the sfa.
Celtic believe in being the plucky underdog and that you deserve your place at the back of the bus.
Don’t believe me? Then why allow this one sided guff to be unchallenged? Why not defend the club and Celtic supporters?
Is it just cowardice? Or something else?
It is depressing that Celtic will fight no cause other than trying to get more money. I hate that its come to this. That we have effectively done all we could to prop up the racist beating heart of Scotland.

These rantings of King are that of a man who knows his time will be up very soon. He will lash out at everyone and anyone to try to ingratiate himself further with the klan before he, like many before him, stiffs them and leaves the total clusterfuck to someone else to try to fix. Ogilvie, Dickson, Robertson, McCrae, Petrie et al must be thinking ‘shut the feck up’ as they know what the final outcome will be if he keeps up his bluster.
Personally I hope he keeps this current round of lunacy up, fills in the time before season end and the world cup, entertaining and funny.
No need to get angry or go tit for tat with ridiculous statements. Laugh at him, laugh at the gullibillies who hang on his every statement, laugh at the press who never question him, its either that or pity them!!

Good Morning one and all.
Only three days to Malawi and lodsa work to do.
I received my itinery yesterday and by god does it involve up every morning at barely past bedtime and out to work in the schools and kitchens!
Still about £700 short of target so still looking for sponsorship for this.
I hope to keep a CQN Malawi diary by posting each day while I am there provided we get an internet connection which is by no means certain.
The other day I was given a portable light switch (basically and LED light attached to a swith) because there tends to be regular power cuts and you are left in the dark!
Anyone looking to make a donation can do so here https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/jamesmcginley3 and a huge thankyou to all the very generous donations and notes of support received yesterday.
They were all greatly received and I won’t mention any names but you know who you are — so thankyou.
One Night in Lisbon Polo Shirts and T shirts available too with the proceeds going towards helping the Celtic FC Foundation build on its already established position as the most successful football foundation in the world.
Drop me a line to order at jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk.
Cheers

Brogan, thanks for your post about Wille Wallace and Joe McBride earlier .
Going by how highly my dad rated each as players , they would have been a great pairing up front. In saying that Stevie Chalmers was an unsung hero. His playing style was very effective . Stevie had a great game in the 1969 cup final with his goal rounding his performance off nicely, it was a very cool finish.
More importantly, have a tremendous and worthwhile trip to Malawi. I know someone who went with the Foundation last year . He told me it was an unbelievable experience.
If I could type properly I would be dangerous ………… serves me right for trying to do this from a ridiculous angle and position.
Knee seriously gubbed!!
Good morning from Croatia. On my way back from Pula this morning.
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/16271211.Celtic_in_line_for_increased_Champions_League_windfall_of_at_least___40million/
Celtic in line for increased Champions League windfall of at least £40million
CELTIC could land an incredible payday of approximately £40m if they reach the Champions League group stage after UEFA revealed prize money for next season’s competition had been increased by an astonishing 50 per cent.
Should they get past the four qualifying rounds, Brendan Rodgers’s side would have the potential to rake in such an astronomical figure when television money and gate revenue is taken into consideration.
Were this to happen, Celtic would enjoy an even tighter stranglehold on the Scottish domestic game.
Booming broadcast and commercial revenues will increase the prize fund for both European club competitions, the Europa League has also been given a 25 per cent hike, which is a huge incentive for Aberdeen, Rangers and Hibernian.
The total income from the Champions League, Europa League and Super Cup is estimated to hit £2.85billion in 2018/19, up nearly £800billion on last season’s figure. This translates to a prize pot of £2.23billion, with UEFA’s costs and solidarity payments accounting for the rest.
The lion’s share, as ever, will go to clubs in the Champions League, with qualification for the group stage worth a guaranteed £13.35million, plus £2.36million for a win and nearly £800,000 for a draw.
There are further bonuses for progressing through each round of the knock-out stages, with the winner collecting a further £44.65million in prize money.
And then there are further payments that depend on each club’s record in UEFA competitions over the last 10 years – the performance-based coefficient rankings currently led by Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Atletico and Manchester United – and each club’s share of its national broadcast ‘market pool’.
Taken altogether, a Champions League victory would be worth more than £100million to a British club next season.
Celtic made an estimated £30m from their progress in the previous campaign and should they reach the group stage for a third successive year, and were able to pick up more points than they did last season, it is feasible the Parkhead club could earn close to £50m.
The money available to Europa League contestants is not quite as impressive – and the total prize fund has only grown by 25 per cent to £446.5million – but a British win could be worth more than £25million.
In fact, UEFA is making so much money from its club competitions that a domestic champion, such as Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps who famously beat Celtic in Rodgers’s first ever game in charge, that loses in the preliminary round of Champions League qualifying this summer will still get £430,000 for their trouble.
Morning all.
Great to see mention of Joe McBride. Imo, the best Celtic centre forward I have had the privilege to watch bar none. Simply a goal scoring machine.
Never interrupt your opponent when he’s making a James Hunt of it,,, think that was Mark Twain although it might have been Geronimo when faced with Mr Custard o so General Custer…

With the dangle of Champions League qualification riches now in front of them, will Celtic go in big to ensure they get there or play it safe and hope the measured approach pays of?
Knowing Celtic as I do, the safe option will win the day, as always. However, given the fiancial strength we have, if ever there was a time to gamble, then it is surely now.
Decisions, decisions.

This could also have been worded differently:
” Celtic would enjoy an even tighter stranglehold on the Scottish domestic game.”
eg Running the Club so efficiently could result in an even greater gap between Celtic and another big Glasgow Club been who have been more economically cavalier .
