Paulo Bernardo was one of a clutch of players who raised the level on Sunday to achieve a comfortable victory. He did more than enough to ensure he will keep his place for the visit of Hearts in 11 days. By then, he will be close to fully fit, having started his preseason when joining the club at the beginning of August.
Arne Engels will likely make an appearance from the bench in that game, and in the next against Slovan Bratislava. The League Cup tie at home to Falkirk should give Brendan Rodgers an opportunity to start Arne.
Watching Stiliyan Petrov on TV coverage at the weekend brought back memories of one of our big success stories in central mid. Stiliyan was 19 and a full Bulgarian international when he arrived in Glasgow, but his first season was far from promising. Announced as one of Europe’s most promising young talents, we couldn’t see what the fuss was about.
John Barnes did not help, when he played him at right back. The sight of Motherwell’s Lee McCulloch whipping past him, as 10-man Well won at Celtic Park, still lingers. Stiliyan needed time to cope with his new environment. Playing where you are expected to win every game is different than anything he knew back in Bulgaria, or that Arne experienced in Augsburg.
I could also make the case that our priorities should be to develop both Paulo and Arne. That way, we have a procession of talent available to step up when one leaves. For me, that means Paulo keeps his place.

Wednesday so soon.
I see the ghirls are into extra time on the road in their big cup campaign.
Mon the hoops!
The ghirls take the lead in ET.
I never understood the hesitancy of some with Bernardo.
I always he was a solid player with great potential.
What Larks Kyogo – What Larks
I see elsewhere there is speculation, fueled by the Erik Ten Haag situation, that there may a danger in Brendan being lured away to Manchester United.
It is not an outlandish suggestion; however I have an inkling that Brendan was persuaded to return, when it seemed to be the last thing on supporters’ minds, with an offer not just to be manager/head coach, but to eventually become ‘Mr. Celtic’ and take the club forward on all fronts. I have no hard evidence for this inference but his overall demeanor and his more forthright approach to off the field issues in interviews and press conferences leads me to this opinion.
He is the right age, is at the top of his powers as a football manager, and has all the requisite business and media skills to be the ‘top banana’ at Celtic for years to come.
Lennoxtown and Barrowfied are being upgraded; we are in an unprecedented financial position and have finally strengthened from a position of strength on the field. Now is the time to do likewise in all areas of the club and Brendan just maybe the man to lead and direct.
Good video BSR, cheers!
Celtic Ladies are in a 4 team tournament in Lithuania just now. If they win through they will still have to play another knock out tie to qualify for the Group Stages of CL.
They are playing extra time just now against KuPs – the Finnish Champions – having finished 1:1 after 90 minutes – but have just gone ahead 2:1.
If they win they play the winners of a Moldova v Lithuania club tie and hopefully get a good draw in the 2nd qualifying round. This is a flavour of the challenges the Men’s team will face in future CL draws as Czech teams overtake Scotland.
They’ve just gone 3:1 up- a Saoirse Noonan hat trick
Ghirls playing at the easy pronounceable Šiaulių m. savivaldybes stadionas.
Hatrick for Noonan puts Celtic in the driving seat in UEFA Women CL Semi-Final
3-1 Celtic, still time to go in ET though
Well done Ghirls
🎵one Saoirse Noonan, there’s only one Saoirse Noonan🎵
Can we not enjoy watching them first before we talk about selling them?

I don’t think Man United’s structure would appeal to a man who demands the sort of control Brendan does
And I don’t think a manager who demands a direct line to the owner would appeal to Sir Jim Radcliffe
Nobody else has their football manager restructuring and heading up all the football operations.? Why would we?
The big guys all have experts in their fields doing each part of what makes up football operations
The days of a football manager doing it all are long gone

Thanks for the Mikey Johnson link. Mixed feelings about him leaving, first because he came through the ranks and secondly because I want him to do well in his career. Saw him in his first appearance back in 2017 and never gave up faith, not least because he is one of the most skilfull players we have produced. Only sixty games for Celtic since then though. Thing is he has managed to get more game time in the last couple of season, in Portugal, at Celtic, at West Brom and with the Republic in Ireland where he might start against England on Saturday. Plenty on here happy to see him go, I’m not one of them.
Watching on Sunday,I know Calmac got MOTM,churlish to deny it,but for me Bernardo was fantastic. He was everywhere, and looked the perfect foil for the others.Great football brain, and technique. As I said before,a thoroughbred. If Engels can fit into this style of play,we have struck gold. With his history and schooling,in the game,no reason not to.
The future is definitely bright.Great purchases.
Agreed Paul67. With a smaller squad and, potentially, 6 more fixtures by the end of January than last season Brendan will need all his management skills: rotation to prevent injuries and avoid burnout, bedding in new signings into a winning team, bringing through development players by giving them meaningful game time all at the same time as getting performances in the most important games of the season.
I have no doubt he can, it’s what he does best. But I would hope he’s concentrating his energies in the team now and not other parts of the football operations
Best of luck to Mikey Johnston
This chap has a great pedigree …….. NOT https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/heart-of-midlothian

Thanks for that (wee smile) whilst listening….I don’t really live in the past with anything , except memories.
Argus of its time (was) is a masterpiece, didn’t wait for the Glasgow gig so me and my mate travelled down to that London to the Ally Pally …..brilliant.
As an aside the support act was Vinegar Joe, band members included Elkie Brooks (flashing her knickers) and Robert Palmer.
Slept in Euston station (left luggage )overnight .
Memory lane is now a Supermarket.

Celtic have said there will be no tickets for the huns in March,as they cannot guarantee to finish in the Top 6,and therefore no 4th Derby Game
Of course Stillian had to master the local lingo whilst working part-time on the burger van…..

The season from hell for thems, without a top 6 finish is something i would love to happen.
Aston Villa CL prices- £79 for adults
Bada Bing
That’s a great joke
I mean the Top 6 one not the Villa prices.
uefa setting maximum prices for away fans, i would likehe same for home supporters
ps,
falkirk must be getting the european level of tickets, 2800 or so because people are being moved from 117
Many moons ago I relocated away from 118 because of constant moving at Uefa games. Not for away fans but hospitality!

Aston Villa CL prices- £79 for adults

Celtic CL prices – £179 for 4 games 👏
Bada
Thought there was a 60€ limit for away fans
Gene- I should have said £79 is what AV are charging their own ST holders for CL games
A wee warning.
I got an e-mail supposedly from an old friend I hadnt heard of for a while,
Started off saying he was sorry he hadnt been in touch for w whille, would it be OK for him to talk on e-mail.
Returned say, nae bother. Within a second I got a reply asking if I wpuld buy anApple voucher from Amazon to help a friennds daughter suffering with liver cancer. He said he tried Amazon but it didn’t connect and asked me to buy it an he would repay me sson as, hmmm.
Smelt a rat, phoned him, and he said his total email stuff etc had been hacked.
So, be careful

Re earlier discussion of St Mungo. There are various spellings of his mother. The one I am most familiar with is St Thenog, having attended St Thenog’s Primary school in Garthamlock in the mid 1950s to early 1960s.
Bada
I realised that after I posted.
So away fans paying less than the home ones – will probably be stuck up a restricted view corner.
Good afternoon troops, new medication and I am sleeping like a log or a sloth. 4 stone lighter right enough🍻
Anyways, this international break so early in our season is a joke.
Not been on much lately has GT and Jamsie pulled out of squad if injured?
D. :)
