Phenomenal changes ahead for Celtic Park

915

The news yesterday from Glasgow City Council that Celtic’s planning application for the areas outside the stadium had been approved will do more than deliver shrubbery to a currently derelict landscape; your match day experience is about to be transformed.

Unless your ticket is for the executive lounges, your match day will involve turning up to a cold stadium (not a lot Celtic or the Council can do about the weather) and wait for the game to start, with rudimentary access to toilets (get in early if you want a hand towel), burgers and pies.

Celtic have been buying up land around their perimeter for years and with permission to remove the derelict London Road School, they are now in a position to provide restaurants, bars, pre and post-match entertainment.  They will also be able to bring the many thousands of artefacts which tell the story of Celtic into a dedicated museum space.

Celtic Park will become a working, 7-day-a-week, tourist destination. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Plans have been before the Council for years but although they ticked all the boxes and made enormous economic sense for an area of the city badly in need of a boost, I hear one SNP councillor spoke against plans to move the superstore from its current location to a larger area, as he felt the need to protect the interests of local Asda and Tesco superstores!

Not everyone was happy to see the club, or the area, progress.

The new edition of CQN Magazine is out and packed with great articles for and by the Celtic support.  You can flick through the magazine in the graphic below but it you want to actually read it, click on the double-headed arrow at the bottom right of the graphic.

    Interesting article as always sir.

But please, don’t ever use the term ‘Brand Celtic…’ again.

It’s up there with ‘Team England’ and sounds vile.

  5. Petec – thanks for posting that link to Bobby Murdoch video. I never saw him play in the flesh but he is without doubt my favourite ever Celtic player, he was my Dad’s and I suspect also his Dad’s too.

I love a good winger like Jinky, it’s great to have had the pleasure of watching Henrik Larsson so many times but I have always been an admirer of great midfielders. McStay was the best I personally ever witnessed in a Celtic shirt. Lambert was magnificent too, but I’d give a great deal to have seen Bobby in his pomp, controlling the game on that May afternoon in Lisbon.

And by the way, we talk about hunskelpers – after the years in the wilderness what it must have been to see him take a Derby game by the scruff of the neck and set up the platform for Jimmy, Stevie, Joe and the rest to regularly hand out tankings to the former Rangers.

Some of you ghuys on here lived to see it. You lucky, lucky people.

He did, but he was blessed that half a dozen came through at once, fair play to him for that, he took a gamble on them, and it paid off.

Never happend since, doubt it will happen again.

I’ll take it from someone who knows – I’ve always had a soft spot for Everton and hoped we might see Moyes manage the Hoops one day, but alas and alack….

My only concern about Moyes is his ability to prepare a team for a final or for a title run in. He will have to earn his spurs there and that will take a bit of patience from the Man Utd fans and board. I suspect Man City and Chelsea will come roaring back at United next season, they will smell blood. Moyes will either have to hit the ground running or that patience will be a must.

Like the guy and hope he does well. Good to see an ex Celt getting on in his profession!

Wee had big Jock, England had Alex, without doubt two of the greatest managers ever!

But as has been noted several times Alex often praised the Celtic support wishing OT’s was as good, no English club had as good. Was he implying that this gave big Jock an advantage he couldn’t match?…….

    That should cheer you up.

  23. Roberttressell….. Agree regarding him having a job on his hands but SAF will make sure he has a support structure that provides continuity !

Moyes in the first instance is a right good manager of players ticks all the boxes and conducts himself very well with regards to the media !

Just remember SAF was apparently days away from the sack just ask jim Leighton but the rest is history ! Moyes will be given every chance to stamp his own style on The Mancs whether they give him the same time as SAF time will tell ! Hail Hail !

He left Celtic in January 1981 having played 15 league games. Celtic won the premier league. He went to Hibs who were playing in the Div 1 . He didnt muss a game. They won their league and he’d therefore played enough games to win medals for both teams
