Phenomenal changes ahead for Celtic Park

915

The news yesterday from Glasgow City Council that Celtic’s planning application for the areas outside the stadium had been approved will do more than deliver shrubbery to a currently derelict landscape; your match day experience is about to be transformed.

Unless your ticket is for the executive lounges, your match day will involve turning up to a cold stadium (not a lot Celtic or the Council can do about the weather) and wait for the game to start, with rudimentary access to toilets (get in early if you want a hand towel), burgers and pies.

Celtic have been buying up land around their perimeter for years and with permission to remove the derelict London Road School, they are now in a position to provide restaurants, bars, pre and post-match entertainment.  They will also be able to bring the many thousands of artefacts which tell the story of Celtic into a dedicated museum space.

Celtic Park will become a working, 7-day-a-week, tourist destination. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Plans have been before the Council for years but although they ticked all the boxes and made enormous economic sense for an area of the city badly in need of a boost, I hear one SNP councillor spoke against plans to move the superstore from its current location to a larger area, as he felt the need to protect the interests of local Asda and Tesco superstores!

Not everyone was happy to see the club, or the area, progress.

The new edition of CQN Magazine is out and packed with great articles for and by the Celtic support.  You can flick through the magazine in the graphic below but it you want to actually read it, click on the double-headed arrow at the bottom right of the graphic.

Quality post as usual. Not that it needed any amendments but might have made it juicier to use the Celtic god of thunder, Taranis, rather than Zeus….

Sir Furious finally retires, what a magnificent managerial career he has had, from a tenement in Govan road to the top of his profession, never forgetting his roots and the community he sprang from gave him an internal steel allied with a fierce winning mentality that drove him to success which lasted decades

IMO Sir Furious and Arsene Wenger should be honoured by the English for saving their game in a football context, following the heysel tragedy in 1985 English clubs were banned from Europe for 5 years, the standard of play and players dipped to the extent we saw the rise of the neds and thugs most notably demonstrated by Wimbledon, a truly dreadful team, Sir Furious and Wenger returned English football to teams who attempted to play beautiful inventive football, its no surprise Big Jock had a huge influence on Fergie

At last with the Commonwealth games looming ever larger we finally have lift off for improving the surroundings of paradise, long overdue and much needed, GCC can hide behind the commonwealth games for political protection from the undoubted ire of the Sevconians as they see Celtic continue to flourish and grow whilst they have the spivs and gangsters fight it out for control

Our own big summer of C/L games looms ever closer now, all our energies and focus should be on these games, the financial and football kudos that will see our wonderful club develop is dependant on how we navigate our way through the qualifiers to the group stages, Neil has to get it right, i have to be honest our defensive performances in 2013 leave me more than a little worried

    The great Glasgow kiss debate.

48 secs in,Bobby Murdoch “nudges” the Rangers no 9,Ferguson,I think.

Second half S.A.F attempts retaliation right beneath us at the Celtic end during the jostling for position at a corner kick for Rangers from their right wing.

I see that Sir Alex gets it in the neck for some of his dud signings. But as all football supporters know, any signing is a gamble.

In my opinion it’s not the bad signings but the great signings at the right time allied to the inclusion of home built talent to build winning teams that defines his managerial career.

I note that Neil Lennon receives the same criticism of his failures in the transfer. And again I think his successes far outweigh the failures. His team building is in progress and looking good.

We are lucky to have him.

    Taranis

Thanks for that— But Zeus of course is the name of the company who are oxter deep in the ownership and management of TRFC and RIFC– and as was shown last night you can take stepping stones to link them to SDM going back over a number of years.

Re Bobby Murdoch and Sir Alex— no doubt that the Govan man lost the plot that day– he also lost his place because he told Davie White that Celtic would run all over Rangers the way that White had set up the Gers– and he was right.

He was demoted not only to the reserves but to playing against amateur and junior teams.

White was terrified and in complete awe of Stein.

As for Bobby Murdoch– he was just imperious in every way. The greatest passer of a ball ever.

  9. Tinytim , think this is it

    Henr1k

    This one……

There was something about that Craig Whyte – Worthington Group tie-up that was bugging me. So I had a wee look over my notes again.

Worthington Group has paid Whyte £250,000 for a share in his new company that is suing Rangers, claiming they own the assets. That’s Worthington Group, who agreed to give Whyte a £3m loan from one of their pension funds (Jerome Group) but now want it back.

That’s Worthington Group, whose previous owner, chairman and chief executive was Joe Dwek, a close ally of Whyte and his pals the Earleys. Dwek is still a major shareholder in Worthington Group.

That’s the same Joe Dwek who is an inspiration to Richard Hughes, a co-founder of Zeus Capital (who are running Rangers right now). In 2005 a profile of Zeus Capital said: “Dwek has provided Hughes in particular with guidance and advice as he has seen the potential to transform them from hustlers into owners of a business with depth.”

Hughes said: “Joe Dwek is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met, real class.”

Dwek, though, really made his name as Executive Chairman and Chief Executive of Bodycote plc from 1972 to 1998. He transformed the company from mainly textiles manufacturers to specialists in the heat treatment of metals for engineering and transport companies.

And one deal in particular helped Dwek’s firm make that transformation:

In 1990 Bodycote acquired Metallurgical Testing Services Ltd (MTS) of Edinburgh, Scotland, from Murray International Holdings plc, laying the foundations for what would become Bodycote’s world-class Materials Testing business.

So . . . Minty knows Dwek who knows Whyte who knows Dwek who knows Zeus.

  12. Lennon to Everton? Posted yesterday I was told at weekend there was to be a major change over the summer at Celtic.

Hope not, we would end up with the unemployed Owen Coyle, who previously thought the job was not good enough for him.

    Good morning CQNers,

I’m sure its no surprise to anyone that my favourite Celtic player was the magnificent Bobby Murdoch, a man who set the standard for Celtic players.

Someone earlier used ‘imperious’ when describing him and there is no better word.

We were fortunate to have such a player and gentleman amongst our fold. It is Scotland’s shame he received such few international caps but we’ll leave that there.

    Hail Hail ………………Murdochbhoy.

  19. Morning all.

Well according to the ‘Daily Mail’ Neil is in the frame for the Everton job, ‘tho not the favourite.

They also say that he is ‘ keen to leave Celtic'(!)

Do they know something we don’t?!

Or is it just lazy (bollox) journalism?!

    HH!!

if Lenny leaves they have won..

The man will have been forced out of the best little country in the world by bigots aided by the Scottish government and the msm….

That would annoy me more than his leaving for footballing reasons..

  21. Morning all of cqn…smell the glove indeed asonofdan

on this day in 1998 we beat st.johnstone 2:0 to win our first league championship for 9long years..two fantastic goals..one special finish from King Henrik and an equally special move and a cool finish from Harold to seal the glory..Celtic park was rocking that day..tensions were high due to thems playing at tanadice..but i knew when i awoke that morning that history would be written..as it was my birthday and my son was making his First Holly Communion in Holy Cross..indeed one of the best days of my life..went to the railway club in the Gorbals on the sunday after the second party of the weekend..my m8 pulls me to one side takes me into Wullie Haughys office..and there sitting proudly on his desk was the European Cup..big Danny thankfuly had his camera at hand and a special moment was captured.stand up for the Champions!!

hope o.g.rafferty can release some thunder today..that would be something h.h

  22. TBF, I can see why Everton would look at Neil – he’s a winner, young, determined, intelligent, hard as nails.

And I can see why Neil would look at Everton – solid club, potential, and it will get him away from the atrocious sectarianism he suffers from in Scotland.

Hopefully nothing in it, but by no means impossible I fear.

  23. Lenny’s name on Everton’s list of managers to replace Moyes, is so far down you would need a telescope to see it.

The usual speculation from a media desperate for some new anti Celtic news.

  24. Murdochbhoy

The ‘imperious’ Bobby received all of 12 caps for Scotland!

Of course at the time there were far better players playing for a now dead club!

A club who once (at least), had 12 players chosen for a Scotland international squad. Remember Paddy Crerard saying that, at the time, he did wonder what the point was because only 11 of them could play!

    God bless Bobby!

    HH!!

  25. When you consider it why would Everton not be interested in our young manager.

Produces a team that gets to the latter stages of the CL on a shoestring of a budget, a fierce will to win, for whom winning isn’t everything…its the only thing. Passionate but articulate and able to spot young talent that can be improved. Everton would need to be stupid not to be interested.

I only hope Neil Lennon’s love for Celtic keeps him here for many a year.

  26. The Myth that is Martinez is odds on for the Everton job. Neil Lennon & Phil Neville are 2nd favourites depending on bookmakers.

You can understand why Everton would want Lenny, you can understand why he would want to go there (on & off the park), but its all about timing and I think he may feel its too soon.

If he does go then he should do with all Celtic supporters best wishes and we can then all pray that Coyle isn’t offered the job.

  27. Very Happy Birthday to my wee Cowieghirl, we’ll have a wee party on Champions day

    Also

    Very happy birthday Tommysbhoy

    &

    Belated birthday wishes to Vmhan

    Hail Hail to you all

  28. I do not know what is going on behind the scenes, but I am dreading the thought of Neil leaving to be replaced by someone like Coyle.

If Neil does decide to leave I am certain Coyle would be offered the job, because he’s unemployed and there would be no compensation to be paid to another club.

Yesterday morning I posted that I had dreamt – during the night – that Neil had resigned!!

    God no!!

    HH!!
