Phenomenal changes ahead for Celtic Park

915

The news yesterday from Glasgow City Council that Celtic’s planning application for the areas outside the stadium had been approved will do more than deliver shrubbery to a currently derelict landscape; your match day experience is about to be transformed.

Unless your ticket is for the executive lounges, your match day will involve turning up to a cold stadium (not a lot Celtic or the Council can do about the weather) and wait for the game to start, with rudimentary access to toilets (get in early if you want a hand towel), burgers and pies.

Celtic have been buying up land around their perimeter for years and with permission to remove the derelict London Road School, they are now in a position to provide restaurants, bars, pre and post-match entertainment.  They will also be able to bring the many thousands of artefacts which tell the story of Celtic into a dedicated museum space.

Celtic Park will become a working, 7-day-a-week, tourist destination. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Plans have been before the Council for years but although they ticked all the boxes and made enormous economic sense for an area of the city badly in need of a boost, I hear one SNP councillor spoke against plans to move the superstore from its current location to a larger area, as he felt the need to protect the interests of local Asda and Tesco superstores!

Not everyone was happy to see the club, or the area, progress.

The new edition of CQN Magazine is out and packed with great articles for and by the Celtic support.  You can flick through the magazine in the graphic below but it you want to actually read it, click on the double-headed arrow at the bottom right of the graphic.

  2. I don’t see how the media linking Neil Lennon with a possible move to Everton can be construed as anti-Celtic reporting. Surely if there is a top job in England up for grabs, the top managers are automatically listed as potential candidates, and if Lenny is quoted in that company, it is a compliment to him and indeed Celtic FC.

How can Lenny being linked in the media possibly have an adverse effect of how the players perform in the Cup Final? Does he tuck them up in bed at night and read them a story?

I just don’t see the problem with speculation about our manager being wanted by top EPL clubs.

Correct, but the motivation within the Scottish media is not because they think he is a great manager….. They want him out, as they have done with ANY successful Celtic manager…..but he’s going nowhere…!!!!

TBB – hoi, stop spoiling our pointless speculation – it’s all we have until Thommo posts!!

Bearsden station is a long way from Milngavie station. Anyhoo I thought you used to go to the games on the Cross Keys bus???

  7. Press reports on the Lenny For Everton line won’t influence Neil to take the job or not. It will be his decision alone. And I don’t see any great harm in having our manager linked with a high profile job.

the problem is not the media speculation. they are complicit in the anti Lennon hatred j.

they stoke the fires that lead to the attacks on Lennon.

couple of weeks ago I had to listen to anti Lennon rubbish from someone in work, where does he get his anti Lenny ideas.?

Chuck spent lots of time in Northern Ireland —– the political need to be seen to be trying to do something about unemployment led to things called Development Boards giving money to people with a entrepreneurial vision.. Chuck was one of those people.

Does that Thommo tweet mean he was flying to Glasgow last night to be here today, or flying today to be here tomorrow ?

  14. BT Sport will be free to any consumer BT broadband customer – the first time in more than 20 years that weekly live matches from the Barclays Premier League will be free to watch.

The three BT Sport channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN – will be packed with world class sport, including 38 exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches, as opposed to the 23 ESPN offered. This includes 18 of the best quality ‘top pick’ matches which for the first time ever are not all with Sky Sports.

BT Sport will also offer matches from the Bundesliga, The FA Cup with Budweiser on ESPN, Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League, Serie A, Ligue 1, MLS and many more.

BT Sport is also the new home for domestic club rugby with exclusive rights to televise up to 69 live Aviva Premiership rugby matches per season (previously shared between Sky Sports and ESPN).

In 2014 BT Sport will also be the new home of MotoGP with exclusive live rights to all the Moto GP races (Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP) of the season (18 GPs). This includes all Warm Ups Practice and Qualifying live (previously on the BBC).

We have also added top women’s tennis from the WTA, exclusive rights to UFC Women’s Super League football, Australian ‘A’ league soccer and action sport and lifestyle programming from Red Bull Media House.

Only one in five UK homes currently take a sports channel – possibly due to the high prices that have resulted from there being little real competition, so we want to increase the number of customers enjoying high quality sports on TV.

Ian Livingston, BT chief executive said:

“UK Sports fans have had a rough deal for too long. Many have been priced out of the market but we will change this by giving away BT Sport for free with our broadband. Sports fans are the winners today.

You’ll be able to get BT Sport direct from us via our own TV service, on Sky’s digital satellite platform and also online or via a new App letting you enjoy the channels on the move or at home on your PC, smartphone, or tablet.

  15. Just spoke to my son Ciaran in Oslo,as he was walking to work this morning along by a river a 69 year old man in a motorised wheelchair sort of lurched forward and disappeared down the three metre drop of the banking and into the water. Without hesitation Ciaran stripped off, jumped in and managed to haul the guy out, he had a bag of clothes and a towel in his bag as he was travelling to London later today so he got the guy out of his wet clothes and kept him as warm as possible until the emergency services got him to hospital. Seemingly he’s gonna be ok as is my bhoy. I’m so proud of Ciaran he’s saved the guys life.HH
