Physical intimidation on Sunday

366

The early season noises around Scottish football are unlikely to settle Celtic anxiety-disordered nerves.  Hearts are under the control of a very credible 29% owner, Newco are enjoying their annual status as the next big thing in European football, Hibernian secured their best European result in 50 years in Belgrade last night and Dundee United went all retro to earn an away draw in Vienna against Rapid.

In 2012 when Scottish football was told that we “need a strong Rangers”, you and I agreed that what we really need is a strong showing from the other city clubs.  It’s early days but the trend is pointing upwards.

One noticeable absence from the above names is Aberdeen, who played some nice football at Tynecastle on Monday night but left pointless.  They face the champions on Sunday with the penalty win over Celtic in May their only competitive success since April.

We know what to expect on Sunday.  Physical intimidation is their default mode.  They will kick and slide in, in an attempt to disrupt our rhythm and discourage Celtic players from showing for the ball.  As a fan, I never really know if this works, but teams still do it, so I assume it has some effect.

Celtic need to be ready for the battle, take the fouls when the inevitably come and go back for more, without hiding and without trading blows.

  1. Matthew McDermid on VAR at Poundland is the next Uncle Tom to watch,he also gave them a goal at Hampden last year after he blew for a foul

The banana edit stuck out as it was so long (oo-er – the length of time it was on screen) with no movement (ie people running around) in comparison to the other clips

This can’t have been an accident

  3. Good point for Rangers in the end…

Russell Martin’s rebuilt side remain unbeaten in five games under the former Southampton boss.

For the second Saturday evening in a row, a few CQN noses put out of joint by the Huns result. Sick of reading on here how the Ibrox mob are going to wipe the floor with us this season. Wishful thinking.

Tom with respect that’s nonsense. I’ve not seen one comment on here that thinks they will beat us over the season. There is a big difference where posts say we are not doing enough to be the best we can be. If we push hard to be as strong as we can for European football we have no worries about them or anyone else in Scotland.

There is a huge difference between fearing them and fearing our own complacency.

Hopefully we’re a couple of goals to the good before Trusty and Yang come on around 60 minutes and Scales moves to LB. Anything can happen if it’s still nil-nil.

  10. Lots of complaints on here about our squad but look at this foe a bench:
