The early season noises around Scottish football are unlikely to settle Celtic anxiety-disordered nerves. Hearts are under the control of a very credible 29% owner, Newco are enjoying their annual status as the next big thing in European football, Hibernian secured their best European result in 50 years in Belgrade last night and Dundee United went all retro to earn an away draw in Vienna against Rapid.
In 2012 when Scottish football was told that we “need a strong Rangers”, you and I agreed that what we really need is a strong showing from the other city clubs. It’s early days but the trend is pointing upwards.
One noticeable absence from the above names is Aberdeen, who played some nice football at Tynecastle on Monday night but left pointless. They face the champions on Sunday with the penalty win over Celtic in May their only competitive success since April.
We know what to expect on Sunday. Physical intimidation is their default mode. They will kick and slide in, in an attempt to disrupt our rhythm and discourage Celtic players from showing for the ball. As a fan, I never really know if this works, but teams still do it, so I assume it has some effect.
Celtic need to be ready for the battle, take the fouls when the inevitably come and go back for more, without hiding and without trading blows.

There was a “Sportsreel”..
Was there a Sportsreel as well or am I just making that up?
I also thought Jock Brown was a Scotsport presenter.
I don’t remember him working for BBC.
I’m sure he did the commentary for Love Street 86 on the Sunday and Sprtscene had Dundee v Diets on the Saturday night.
Well done Jonny, enjoy and score plenty

Sportsreel?
That might have been the Saturday night show….
In terms of Aberdeen cluggery they have pre cons ..ie they successfully despatched Hatate for the final last year ..and I don’t think the big thug even got booked ..Celtic need to be aware and street wise for this lot and their coward manager 🍀
Big Idah simply has to show up for this game ..in more ways than one …

Sportsview!
I’m old enough to remember Sportsview hosted by Peter Dimmock, but Scottish football rarely got a mention.
Was Sportsview the forerunner of Sportsnight with Coleman? That was another programme wheee we didn’t get much of a mention.

Kenny and Idah would score more goals if Rodgers new how to utilise modern day version of wingers, or wingers post the Davie Provan era.
Tony Mowbray did this well by playing rope-a-dope with opposition teams, sucking them in and then playing the quick out ball to Ivan Sproule who was very effective for BTM.
BTM came to Celtic and wasn’t allowed to be BTM, the Celtic Way bs buried him, and folk wonder why he was a Celtic managerial flop?!
Rodgers deployment of wingers has been sussed and low-blocked out of effect forcing Celtic wingers to turn back the way and end up wearing Khun tripping faces.
Celtic’s dumbfounded wingers is not the wingers fault, its tin eared Rodgers fault.
Rodgers stood on the touchline for 130 mins before penalty kicks in the SCF, vs mighty Aberdeen, watching wingers turn back the way, and looking over at the touchline seeking guidance from Rodgers, who just responded by clapping his hands faster, and twirling his hand faster?!
What kind of leadership is that?
Are the players all frightened obedient sheep in the dressing room?
Does Phil the shill know?
Or is it just Rangers dressing room that he is interested in?
Ditto, the equally pretentious David Low, Fergus McCann’s poodle, puppet, plant, etc. lol
PS, This is because of Happy Clappy, Cancel Culture, Everybody You Don’t Like Is Right Wing, Dimmery!

Watched Aberdeen on Monday night, looked very ordinary, if we can’t beat them then we’re in trouble.
We should beat them with skill, movement and passing ability, A tough defensive midfielder playing for Celtic in these days of VAR, would find himself red carded more often than not.
When the hell are we going to sign a decent winger?
garygillespieshamstring on 8th August 2025 2:25 pm
Both matches had a 3pm kickoff on the Saturday.
That evening Sportscene did a clever splice, switching the action from Dens to Love St and back as the story of the afternoon played out.
A day I won’t forget.

—————-
Arne Engels booked for winning the ball only tackle he made no need for VAR when Robertson is live , – Brendan Rodgers didn’t miss him after the game finished.
Johnny Kenny signs new contract 4 year deal
Personally I would rather be playing them at Pittodrie when they were in the midst of a regular Sunday Thursday routine mid Euro campaign. We have them now and hopefully have the motivation to avenge and it outweighs their new found belief they can beat us.
Reo for a double would be sweet. Hopefully the newly charged Ernie can chip in and Adam silence the critics.
A very good friend of mine, is a real conspiracy theorist, and thinks that we will lie down to thems, for the sake of the “Auld Firm” brand . Says if thems die, we will have less competition, . Could this be true I wonder ??

Aberdeen look a bit ring rusty. But this is banana skin writ large. Hatate and Forrest have been done the last two times we’ve gone up against them, I don’t expect much protection from Beaton. A win would be a big result.

*I believe that its something to do with being a “travelling man”
For those of a certain vintage, who remembers George Davidson, or as my old man called him Granny Davidson
Recall I was in the jungle below the TV gantry when there was a hell of a clatter. Some wag shouted, that’s George Davidson dropped his wallet

Made me think of a little winger we once had who reveled in this kind of environment. Mind you, he had a couple hard men for teammates who looked after him when needed.

*aye “its ronnie over to sandy who passes it to big john grieg who lays it off for wee willie etc” before mcneill cuts it out passes to gemmel who then lays it off for murdoch who sends it out to johnstone etc” if you can catch my drift.
🗣 | Brendan Rodgers response to being asked why deals haven’t been concluded
“I just think that there are many things that go into it.
“I don’t do the deals, so I can’t answer that for you. But I know that behind the scenes, there’s a lot of work, there’s a lot of discussions that go on to conclude deals.
“I’m hopeful that come the end of this window we will have those deals concluded and we get the players in that that can help us go forward.
“The focus right now from myself is to make sure that the players that are here are in the best possible condition, mindset to play the games. That’s where we’re at.”
“I think the board have shown over many years, numbers of years, that the work will get done. And obviously as a group that run the club and have run it so well for so many years, they have to get what they feel is the best value for the players.
“Of course, as coaches and managers and supporters, you want the best players. But ultimately the club will be run in a way that makes sure that both the best players and the best value is there to be made.
“That sits above me. That’s something that clearly does. I think we support what’s here at the moment. If you look at last season, we were a couple of penalty kicks away from having a fantastic season, both domestically and in Europe.
“This summer, of course, we want to improve the squad and the board will want to improve the squad as well. I’m very hopeful that we can do that.
“I can’t afford to get bogged down in it. We know what we need. And then I also have to ensure that the players that are here are fit and attitudes, ready to play how we want to play.
“And then as the window goes on, hopefully we can add the players that can make our football smile even more.”

I was fortunate enough to be at Love Street that day.
Didn’t see Sportscene on the Saturday night as liquid refreshments were being consumed.

If Dick Louden was in the Louden, he would be one Dick amongst many of them.

Dearie me, this is a wreck of a football club right now,and spare me the previous trophies, even the happy clappers on here will be running out of skin

I think Brendan should warn the assembled press hounds that any questions relating to transfers, his contract situation, the board or his choices of players for previous games will lead to immediate termination of the press conference.
That would put an end to the mischief making.
After such a harrowing week which started off so brightly with sevco dropping 2 points in the 87th minute and us gaining 2 at the same time in the game it now looks as if we will be battling it out with the sheep for the last relegation place, oh well the hunterlopers are all pumped up now.
Quadro,
Keep on thinking ( Hoping ) that.
BSR,
Well your forecasts for the Press conference, all came true.Astonishing.Did you write BRs script?.
What a load of dreck on here today.
