Physical intimidation on Sunday

366

The early season noises around Scottish football are unlikely to settle Celtic anxiety-disordered nerves.  Hearts are under the control of a very credible 29% owner, Newco are enjoying their annual status as the next big thing in European football, Hibernian secured their best European result in 50 years in Belgrade last night and Dundee United went all retro to earn an away draw in Vienna against Rapid.

In 2012 when Scottish football was told that we “need a strong Rangers”, you and I agreed that what we really need is a strong showing from the other city clubs.  It’s early days but the trend is pointing upwards.

One noticeable absence from the above names is Aberdeen, who played some nice football at Tynecastle on Monday night but left pointless.  They face the champions on Sunday with the penalty win over Celtic in May their only competitive success since April.

We know what to expect on Sunday.  Physical intimidation is their default mode.  They will kick and slide in, in an attempt to disrupt our rhythm and discourage Celtic players from showing for the ball.  As a fan, I never really know if this works, but teams still do it, so I assume it has some effect.

Celtic need to be ready for the battle, take the fouls when the inevitably come and go back for more, without hiding and without trading blows.

  1. The ref was that much of a Hun,they drew 1-1 with an atrocious Dundee team at The Big Lavvy.

  2. Cheater , I see St Mirren had 5 booked today against Motherwell think it was 1 against us while we had 2 booked.

  3. One of the worst and most blatant cheating performances by a referee in Scotland in the last ……. week. Don Robertson who did everything he could to impede us against St. Mirren did a full on ‘John Cheatin’ Beaton’ tonight. Penalty that was a joke and then allowed Dessers to ‘score’ when clearly offside. Inside the penalty box when everyone else was outside. McLean did everything he could to assist them at Fir Park also. Operation ‘Help The Gers’ fully in swing.

  4. Evening all.

A positive result for us tomorrow and we will have a four point lead after two games, wow!!

    A draw = a loss

    Well done Big Elvis.

  5. Come on Celtic show a true statement of intent on and off the park you know it makes sense

across the tim-ternet and esp the trinity tims, i see the oft repeated narrative

Peter Lawwell strategy is to keep Celtic just ahead of Rangers,

Ergo, domestic success, and only spending if it is needed to be ahed of thems, slightly, for competition and the tv .

In it together if you like.

Now, if Celtic spend big , does that not condemn that theory.

The biggest risk to PL strategy then is “the rangers” not keeping up their end.

    Their are shite,

    Mangaed decline.

    ………………

Dundee played very well. They were anything but atrocious tonight. Never panicked. Played calm, controlled passing football. Hit both posts and then scored. They were great.

  8. I hate sounding like an expert but that Gassama n Antman n Rothwell are absolute average.

Danny Armstrong n Allan Forrest are better players.

Lyall Cameron is Conner Barrons twin brother.

Djega is a good player to be fair.

Butland is one mistake away from a meltdown.

They CANNOT sell a single player.

Big Dessers….lovely fella but pash footballer.

Raskin snd Diomsnde will be lucky if they’re earning £50k a year after they’re Sevco contract runs out.

    What a fekin result…..GIRFUY….lurking huns.

    EternaldominationCSC

  9. The other difference with Robertson today was he played advantage for them often. With us he blew and stopped momentum. Note- Dundee could have scored header in final seconds.

Do t get carried away – Ange didn’t get off to the best of starts and these types of results will motivate them to bring in more players. Celtic need to put the boot down!!

  10. So much to say,

    But first

  12. Tom McLaughlin on

For the second Saturday evening in a row, a few CQN noses put out of joint by the Huns result. Sick of reading on here how the Ibrox mob are going to wipe the floor with us this season. Wishful thinking.

Hands up the rangers board done us

    Gant and Gash, fecking tremendous

  14. The most important thing is to get three points up in Aberdeen tomorow.

Because, if we do, and with the Ayebrokes side likely to progress in Europe, (and even more likely to postpone next weekend’s fixture against St Mirren) we would have the opportunity to go seven points clear at home agin Livvy next Saturday. A win tomorrow gives us that very opportunity, We need to take it.

And our away support will help us do so.

  15. Looked at the BBC report of the deid team’s game. Dodds, one of the commentators, is said to be an ex-Dundee Und player. No mention that he played and has been one of the coaches of the home team. If ever there was a homer, it’s him.

  16. Comedian at the fringe calls Mc Coist,a DOHB.Heading for 400 complaints now on FF !!.

  18. Rylan”s. Rankers live to dive another day. And a ref who sees things there way, so no change there.

Let’s hope we get the performance we need tomorrow. Hopefully get a chance to see Yamada.

Cmon Celtic….this could be a brilliant season

  20. No, next weekend is for League Cup fixtures, so any postponed fixtures would be 23/24 August.

    Even better…. postpone the pain

Come on Celtic lets get into gear…..

  21. Bedwetters…….
