Physical intimidation on Sunday

366

The early season noises around Scottish football are unlikely to settle Celtic anxiety-disordered nerves.  Hearts are under the control of a very credible 29% owner, Newco are enjoying their annual status as the next big thing in European football, Hibernian secured their best European result in 50 years in Belgrade last night and Dundee United went all retro to earn an away draw in Vienna against Rapid.

In 2012 when Scottish football was told that we “need a strong Rangers”, you and I agreed that what we really need is a strong showing from the other city clubs.  It’s early days but the trend is pointing upwards.

One noticeable absence from the above names is Aberdeen, who played some nice football at Tynecastle on Monday night but left pointless.  They face the champions on Sunday with the penalty win over Celtic in May their only competitive success since April.

We know what to expect on Sunday.  Physical intimidation is their default mode.  They will kick and slide in, in an attempt to disrupt our rhythm and discourage Celtic players from showing for the ball.  As a fan, I never really know if this works, but teams still do it, so I assume it has some effect.

Celtic need to be ready for the battle, take the fouls when the inevitably come and go back for more, without hiding and without trading blows.

  1. Sadiesboy,

Of course the Referee gives the goal.WTF do you want him to do.Linesmen and VAR flag up offside goals.

He also gave the penalty.Might have looked like one to him.VAR should have chalked it off.Lots of angles for them to view.

Have a look on FF.See what they think of todays Ref.They know he is a Tim.

  2. That was a 100% computer generated, ai version of hazel irvine on sportscene

    What was that??

If it wasn’t an ai/computer generated voice then she has phone from the himalyas with such a poor signal that they have run it thru so many filters it sounds fake

  4. We need to be a lot better than thems , Robertson was playing his part last week against us ,along with aitken on var . Today he was pulling out the stops to make sure they didn’t lose . Tomorrow it’s the turn of Billy boy Beaton to stick the boot into us OR allow the sheep’ to stick the boot into us aided by boy dallas . Now we’ve got a suspension hanging over us ,while they can chuck broken glass on a pitch ,throw missiles at our staff without a charge on them . If our board can take some time off from signing quality players . They might raise complaints against the officials at our games , it has the makings of a crusade once again against the celtic .HH

  5. Maeda up top as the main striker tomoz

Yang and wee jhamsie as the wingers

We can always bring on Kenny/Shin after we are a few goals up and switch maeda out to the wing

Worst comes to the worst, we can always put Nygren out there on the right wing as well

  6. Got to laugh at some on here, trying to ridicule the angst and frustration most fans are feeling at the dereliction of duty by our Board in the transfer window, because the scum drew today.

WTF that has to do with not supporting BR with the players we need is anyone’s guess.

  8. Clunks,

Well, that team and formation you picked for tomorrow, shows us all the shocking state the Board have left us in.

    That was just satire

    I was taking the pish

Idah will be on the pitch at some point tomoz, and rightly so

And I assume he will start

  10. So those who were saying that we should be quaking in our boots at the new signings over in Govan are now angry because that seems to be a false dawn…..Can’t have both ways. From what I have seen of the deid team, they are worse than they were last season. Mind you, I have only seen the “highlights” on Sportscene. They could well have lost today, just as they should have last week.

I hope, if we get new players in, they are of a far better quality than what they seem to have signed.

  11. See BBC gives the one and only R Astley MOTM

Never gonna walk away ….think that’s the words 🥴🥴😂

    Night all !🤪

  12. Adi- added time is another issue that needs looked at,specifically when the huns need a goal,7 minutes was ridiculous

  13. garygillespieshamstring on

If we ever hear Boyd making some sense, we can be 100% certain it is as a result of artificial intelligence.

  14. garygillespieshamstring on

    ERATIC

When Astley caused the Huns to “cry for help”, Robertson duly obliged with a dodgy penalty.

Brings me back to what I’ve said all along about this fakeover, these clever American private equity chaps can run all the Monte Carlo simulations they want, none will capture the Kulture.

Gassama dive. Pen given. He couldn’t wait. Var checking and ……….given. Woeful decision

It was never a pen. Dundee have been robbed of all the points. Don Robertson is truly an abysmal referee. Matthew MacDermid on VAR has simply bottled it today. Or else…

  17. Beaton will be hoping to put in a similar performance tomorrow to his one at Tynecastle after the huns got beat at home to Motherwell.

  18. An Dun

Agree Beaton is our biggest threat. Just ahead of their physicality. Especially the dirty wee Finnish guy who won’t get booked until the second half.

  19. A Dun ….its quite simple your answer is FREEMASONRY ….never a feckin penalty …they ( men in black are petrified ..as they know they are not only making a football decision ..but a career decision ..,nothing new …goes all the way back it’s so feckin obvious …my 82 year old mother asked me why they brought Tav on ..is it to take a penalty !!?

  20. Thank goodness the Hun were so poor today. Maybe some of the folks on here will give us a better chance of coming a close second this season.

Early start tomorrow to see the bhoys. Can’t wait.

Good comment – I’m baking in a second place like you 🙂

Also up early and looking forward to it.

Hope Aipple is doing well; I have seen him post in a while.

  22. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Struggling to understand the criticism about the BBC’s choice of pundits.

Surely the one negative that is always leveled against pundits is that they will favour the club they used to play for?

Probably just a lack of my football knowledge but I can’t instantly think of a club currently in the league that you would strongly associate with anything more than a pretty small number of their regulars.

    Maybe missing something…..

  23. To mark the 50th anniversary of Sportscene, the show ended with clips of the presenters and some memorable moments through the half century.

    Dundee Utd goal

    Laudrup Goal

Archive Gemmel v Holland World Cup

Police Cavalry charge Hampden 1980 Cup Final

    Motherwell cup winning goal

Dundee v Hearts Albert Kidd goal

    Davie Provan Scottish Cup final

    Kenny Dalglish Scotland v Wales

Hibs goal v rangers Cup final

However, amongst the montage, which was supposed to represent the 50 years of Scottish football, were two that really show there are many, many hurting Huns in BBC Scotland.
