Pin it to the dressing room wall

Straight from the off on Saturday you knew this would be a more accomplished Celtic performance than our last league outing against Dundee. Brown and Bitton in central mid, with Charlie Mulgrew partnering Erik Sviatchenko in central defence.

Charlie is at the back end of his career but you know you are getting a seasoned SPL pro, who is going to clear his lines, attack the ball, and not try to be Beckenbauer (i.e. he’d rather not attempt a 20 yard pass than risk misplacing one).  I’ve liked the look of Erik since he’s arrived, our clean sheet count has improved immeasurably, but the Dane was culpable at the Thistle penalty. He was turned, then put his arm around his opponent’s waist. A nailed-on penalty which could have cost us in different circumstances.

I loved Kilmarnock striker Josh Magennis’ comments after his teams’ defeat at Pittodrie: “We can do Aberdeen a favour next week by beating Celtic, we haven’t lost in our two games against them this season.”

Pin it to the dressing room wall at Lennoxtown, Ronny.  We battered Kilmarnock last time out, creating 20 attempts but couldn’t convert, and we let them off the hook earlier in the season at Rugby Park by conceding a late penalty.  No mistakes this time.

  1. My condolences Mountblow Tim and Starry Plough on your losses. I said a prayer for them and for all of your loved ones who are left in sorrow.

    May they rest in peace.

  2. Time to do our talking in the pitch Celtic and put arseholes like Magennis in his place. Never ceases to amaze me how the number of non Celts from Ireland would love to put one over on us. I don’t know if it’s a jealousy thing but I think it is. I worked in Dublin during the MON era and the media was obsessed with him going to Liverpool when in fact we we were a better team!! A lot of Man U, Liverpool and other Prem League team supporters in Ireland just don’t like us and as I said from my own personal experience it’s pure jealousy. Any other supporters from the 32 experience this? No doubt Magennis will feel right at home in France this summer with his true mates…in tae them Saturday Celtic

I reckon I was aware beforehand, bud. I’ve converted many a non-believer to our team. And that is one of the first things they get told.

The vests are technology-enabled, capturing second by second bio-metric performance data throughout the match, giving instant recall and thus enabling players to improve their mammaries.

I should perhaps point out, that the vests come in two variations: Wireless and Underwired.

i thought this award was merited, tho on the light and sensitive side (which means if you are representing Celtic it goes against you.

I am recalling now Eriks booking against Morton,The morton player showed Erik one way,a way in which Erik turned, then abruptly turned leaving Erik hands on against the attacker,Erik put the morton player on his bum, result was f.k to Morton and a booking for Erik.Basically the forward was to quick on the turn for Erik. This lack of pace worries me a little,as it does for most of our defence(Charlie etc). i hope they both learn from the game

  9. I suppose if they help us get our hands on a cup or two more the vests’ll be worth it.

  10. The number of penaltys given for players who stay on their feet is minimal, I can remember the Huns getting one when going for a title, Kyle Lafferty.

To say it was a penalty is nonsense.

If that was the case then why was Derk Boerrighter banned for diving at St Johnstone?

That incident went in front of a panel, Derk was clearly fouled, then dived as the foul had stopped his chance of scoring.

So a panel decided that was not a penalty, so that’s your proof, mo penalty.

    You are the ref

A Ross County player has scored a goal late on in a cup final. He then removes his jersey in celebration. He then leaves the field of play without permission and goes to the crowd to celebrate, causing fans in the front rows to surge forward to celebrate with him.

    Do you :

    A. Book him for removing his top

    B. Book him for going into the crowd.

    C. Red card him for committing two yellow card offences.

    D. ignore the infringements as only Celtic players are to receive cards for these offences.

Didn’t watch game but saw a clip on the news. Only curious to know what happened.

    Whoah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You seem conditioned now to accept whatever the SFA throw at us, very sad that a few Celtic fans think they can look at the rule book and consider they are being refereed from a book.

We’re not, and the closest the Svaitchenko ‘penalty’ comes to ‘rules’ is holding in the box, a proper example of which would be AC Milan? against Celtic………………remember what holding is?

Erik never got a hold at any time but the referee wanted to give a penalty, just the same, as he wants to be a key player in the cabal, where there is controversy and decisions against, in virtually every game, even when we win.

He blanks fouls on Celtic men by the bushel and is part and parcel of the masonic coterie, tuning up for 2017 ready to down Celtic at every possible opportunity.

We are treated differently week in week out, open your mind and out of the back seat…..please.

Only one natural finisher in the team. Everybody bar griff is poor in that respect.

I would maybe exempt McGregor from that charge, but generally speaking you are right.

I expected Armstrong to bring us a few goals and hoped that Johansen would rediscover how to find the net, but neither has happened. Kris seems to have lost the knack too.

I noticed that some of Aberdeen’s goals have come from defenders and it made me think of the lack of contribution recently from our big guys at set pieces.

  14. Sid

Happened to Wellbeck yesterday too. Slight contact in the penalty area as he ran past the Watford defender, stayed on his feet to get a shot in, but, off balance, shot wide.

    No penalty awarded, of course.

Has to be said though,, Wellbeck has often been known to shoot wide, even when perfectly balanced!

  15. Garygilliespieshamstring

Schalk was booked for his celebrations.

So it seems if you commit two offences one after the other it is just a yellow.

Also it seems that only one player will be booked as their was several RC players who committed the same offence. HH

  16. Beatbhoy / Sid.

Did you see the Palace “penalty ” against Reading. ( Friday night )

  17. So Ronny has 9 maybe 10 games to save his job as surely if he throws away the title from a position of strength i.e. leading the pack he must go.

Hmmmm, better mhen than Ronny have done that and still survived, Jock, Billy, Davie, MON and Lenny.

Now before some of you jump up and get bent out of shape I’m not comparing Ronny with the mhen mentioned above, not even close.

We could argue that there were valid reasons for those managers losing the title. Jock had a tired side in 1975, Billy and Davie both got shafted by the board when they requested funds that may have won them the League (Alan Sugar once stated there wasn’t a manger out there that didnae ask for just one more player to gain success), MON and Lenny both suffered from honest mistakes.

Both Tommy Burns and the oul Doctor could also point out to honest mistakes as well as downright cheating.

If we don’t clinch the League this season then could it also be put down to honest mistakes?

    Sorry, didn’t see it.

But was the referee ignoring worse fouls on Reading by Palace players throughout the match before awarding Palace the penalty?

That’s what happened in our match.

  21. Tontine Tim

Unlike some of our performances this season, I’ll try to keep my shape, but I think it’s worth mentioning that Martin lost his 2 titles in ’03 and ’05 to Rangers teams who were cheating, being packed with improperly registered players.

One minimal 3 point deduction per season to cover all the infringements they were guilty of in those seasons, and Martin wins 5-in-a-row.

    Never let them forget it.

  22. Glendalystonsils

I posed the question last week, may have been answered, if we have scored direct from a FK this season. Can’t remember one and also not too many opportunities this season.

A big part of most of our titles since 2000 has included frees. Not many on the team can hit them it seems or we don’t fall over enough!

On the plus side, we must have scored a massive percentage of our goals from open play. That is impressive in terms of team play and entertainment

“That Ronny Delia wants to be a development coach first before a winning manager ? in the article below he is clearly asking to accept that playing young inexperienced players carries a risk, Alex Ferguson combined both, winning manager, develop young players”

Would Celtic fans be prepared to let Ronny have the same results Fergie had in his 1st few years at Man Utd?

Fergie lost 9 games in his 1st season at Man U. His 2nd season was marginally better he only lost 8 games. His 3rd season was an absolute disaster losing 16 games in domestic competitions.

No way would Ronny be allowed those kind of statistics we’ve only lost 3 in the league and 1 cup games yet some people want Ronny gone. Basically what he says in that article is correct, we as a fan base wont allow a manager to develop the team as it is all about winning for to many among our support.

With a resurgent Aberdeen and the new club in the league next season it will be harder to introduce younger players, saying that though it would be a lot easier to bring the younger guys on if we actually finished teams off when we have the chances to.

On Saturday we could and should have been 5 up before they were awarded their dubious penalty. How many times this season have we had players in one on one positions only to fire it directly at the keeper?

  26. Well done Celtic.

THIS Saturday, Celtic will travel down the M77 for another crucial SPFL Premiership away day against Kilmarnock. With the Scottish Champions involved in a title fight, another three points will be crucial to all our hopes of securing five Premiership titles in a row this season.

Just as crucial, as ever, will be our travelling support. That support is never taken for granted and now the Club is thanking our travelling fans for your tremendous backing throughout the season.

Every adult ticket purchased this week from the Celtic Park Ticket Office for the game against Kilmarnock will be discounted, by Celtic, by £6. Celtic Football Club will meet the cost of this, and every supporter who has already secured their seat to get behind the team this weekend will also be able to claim their discount based on their original method of payment.

That means that for this weekend’s game, Celtic supporters can get behind their team in numbers once again for only £20 per adult ticket instead of £26.

Rugby Park has been the scene of some memorable Celtic celebrations in recent years. League titles were clinched in 2007 and 2012 with famous wins away at Kilmarnock. While the title won’t be won this weekend, the Bhoys can continue to go for five-in-a-row with a large, loud Celtic support behind them.

Celtic captain Scott Brown said: “This is a great move by the Club and I am sure it will be welcomed by our supporters. We hope it will allow even more fans to come and back the team at Rugby Park.

“Our supporters are everything to us and it is a privilege to be able to play in front of such a large and passionate support everywhere we go. We saw it on Saturday at Firhill and felt the difference a huge travelling support can make.

“We respect and value the huge commitment our fans make in supporting the team and we are so grateful for everything they do for us. We were delighted to win such an important game on Saturday and now our total focus is on achieving another win at Kilmarnock – and we want to do this with as many fans as possible behind us.”

With a larger ticket allocation available to Celtic at Rugby Park, this felt like the right game to select to reward the away support with this discount. We know that supporting Celtic around the country and abroad all adds up over the season and we understand fully the level of commitment our fans make week in, week out.

Hopefully discounting the cost of this game will go some way to helping even more supporters lend their voices to backing the Bhoys’ charge for the title.

Tickets for this match are now on sale to Season Ticket Holders on a first come, first served basis.

Tickets are priced from £20 Adults, £18 Concessions (Over 65/Under 21/Students*) and £10 Child (Under 16).

Goals from open play are a hallmark of good football teams and to me, are the most pleasing.

You to supplement these with free kicks and other set piece goals though, especially if you’re playing against parked buses week in and week out.

Our Goals in Lisbon are iconic goals from open play, but you could argue that Billy McNeill’s header from a corner in the Vojvodina game was just as important in the overall scheme of things, as was his winner in the 1965 cup final which did so much to usher in Jock Stein’s golden age.
