Place your bets on Supreme Court

419

I don’t think any of us regarded the possibility of playing a Champions League qualifier in San Marino next month as likely, but after La Fiorita left Belfast with only a single goal deficit, the prospect of playing the next round in an historically dubious territorial entity remains real.

Linfield were right to make provisions for the possibility of facing Celtic in the next round, but smiling executives and comments of making £1m on the tie is asking for it. The lesson for all of us is take care of the next game.

Football in June and July is a random lottery. We’ve learned this lesson often enough, but it’s worth reminding everyone again.

Yesterday we learned that the Supreme Court will publish its verdict on Rangers’ Big Tax Case next week. This one has had so many twists along the way it’s impossible to call. Whatever the outcome, there will be no surprise.

We may discover that Rangers tax affairs were not legal, not open to other clubs, and therefore bestowed an unfair sporting advantage. Or it may be that Income Tax was optional all those years. Place your bets.

I’d consider it depending how things go with other targets. Its a tough market as we’ve seen with Onyekuru and possibly Roberts.

We know Aiden, he knows us – he looks after himself, hes on a high after a good season. He has that bit of magic and I;d back Brendan Rodgers to maximise his usefulness if we did sign him.

Hopefully we’ll get Roberts back though.

How ya doing? If you dont mind me jumping in …. I thought Aiden was one of the players who people paid to watch…. but I would not have Aiden back…. always had lots of skill, but not the football acumen to match the skills….so, too many ‘beat man … run into a dead end”s ‘ …

Brendan’s players, with a few exceptions, are not more talented …. but seem to be better team players (at least, they are moving in that direction) ….

and, if BR can teach that to other players, then why not Aiden? Fair question, but at 31, I think it might be a bit late for Aiden to learn BR’s style … I know others have come later (Moravcik, being the one that springs to mind)… but he is different …. more talented, and had a football IQ to match …. a true footballing genius … and I think we could have gotten more from him had we used him a bit differntly…

Aiden was a great player for us,folk go on about ‘end product’ but the players who have that on a consistent basis are very few and far between, and to be honest I think the ‘end product’ line is just a lazy throwaway used when discussing wide players/wingers.I’ve still to watch a player who had an ‘end product’ every time.

Aiden was the type of player who could turn a game with one piece of skill and those are rare in the game.He wasn’t a Messi standard player but still a level above most players when it comes to ability and provided sublime entertainment at times. That said,I wouldn’t be keen on taking him back as I think that rarely works out well.

I appreciate Aiden’s efforts whilst with us but his time has been in the hoops.

    Bobby Lennox was my fav.

I often wonder how much Bobby and Jinky would be worth in modern terms.

Dont see too many players of that quality nowadays.

Aiden was a good player for Celtic, no doubt.

I preferred Di Canio, even though he was/is nuts.

What skills Di Canio had, magic in those Gold Boots:)

I think he’d be a great option off the bench. Lets not forget Paddy was used off the bench a number of times to great effect.

Understand all the reservations but the bottom line for me is the ability, which he undoubtedly has.

Now we have atop class manager who could get the best out of him.

That Luca place looks very nice, may pay it a visit some Friday evening.

It’s just up from the White Bear, a Sevco pub (though they make no mention of the knuggledraggers meeting there on their website) which I had the pleasure of discovering just after the cup semi defeat last year, when the Great Tattooed were staggering about Clerkenwell like they owned the place.

Good to see that the bar is going the way of the team they followed – they are closing next Jan

Big Packy … they have a new thing now at the CN Tower … you are in a harness, and walk around the outside of the restaurant, looking down …. 1500 feet in the air…. I would love to try it …..trying to convince the doc to join me, but no chance! … if you come to town, I may try to tempt you!

    TGM…

I’d put Naka just above Di Canio as he was more effective but both were outrageously gifted and worth the ticket money alone.Used to look forward to games just to see what Di Canio would attempt, sheer entertainment. And Naka was just poetry in motion, could watch him manipulate the ball for hours on end, genius.

Agree Aiden has bags of skill just not keen on players returning.I have no problems with his ability and would support him as any other Celtic player but just got those nagging doubts. On his day joy to watch and a tim as well but…

Yes, always reservations about going back. Anyway, it’d only happen if BR wants it to happen. And if he does I’m sure we’ll all trust his judgement.

Theres a a big element of keeping our powder dry until we see if we qualify for the CL and also who becomes available in the EPL and further afield.

As good as both Naka and Di Canio were Lubo is on another plane altogether.Lubo’s talent was good enough for any team or any league or any competition.Without doubt the most naturally gifted ball player i’ve watched in the hoops (i’m 46).The best two footed (as all professional players should be) footballer i’ve ever seen.Deserves to be mentionedwith the greats.

That Di Canio goal for Naopli was a thing of beauty.A perfect example of how important poise and patience are to be a top footballer. No panic,no rush but composure and the extra 100th of a second it gives the man on the ball. It’s what seperates the true star players from the rest.Doing it against Baresi,Maldini et al just makes it that bit more special.A real ‘wow’ moment watching that goal.

Celtic delighted to sign Kundai Benyu on four-year deal

By: Newsroom Staff on 29 Jun, 2017 14:56

CELTIC are delighted to announce that it has agreed a four-year contract with Kundai Benyu and he will join the club from July 1.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has joined the treble-winners from Ipswich Town, and he will be joining up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Kundai is a box-to-box midfielder who has been much sought-after by some of England’s top clubs, but he has opted to join Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish champions.

Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, Kundai said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Celtic. It’s a massive honour to sign for the Scottish champions and one of the world’s truly great clubs.

“It’s also a great opportunity for me to continue to develop as a footballer under Brendan Rodgers.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new Celtic team-mates. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead of me but I am ready for this, I’m looking forward to the challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”

Everyone at Celtic welcomes Kundai to the club and wishes him every success in the green and white Hoops.
