Players have justifiable confidence in each other

185

Celtic players appear to have a justifiable confidence in each other.  They have beaten their four nearest league challengers, scoring an incredible 15 goals in the process, qualified for the Champions League group stage and knocked Manchester City out of their stride in a manner which seemed improbable, considering their first competitive game of the season in Gibraltar.

Justifiable confidence extends to the support as well.  Celtic players and opponents alike know the levels of support and encouragement the home team can expect from Celtic Park.  “You’ll need to take on all of us”, appears to be the mantra.  And that really is improbable.

Don’t be fooled by talk of Borussia Monchengladbach being weaker than last season.  Last night I watched Bayer Leverkusen, who sit below Gladbach in the Bundesliga, give Tottenham a long and taxing evening.  They will be fit, skilful and accomplished across the field.

This will be a huge test, but it’s not the first we’ve faced in Europe.  You know the job required, let’s get on with it.
marys-meals-tweet
Take a look at the above Tweets from Mary’s Meals this morning.  You did that.  You put food on the table of some of the poorest, most malnourished, children on the planet.  Well done on another astonishing achievement.

Resting on laurels is for others.  Being a Celtic supporter doesn’t finish here.

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two North Stand (Celtic supporters area) tickets for the Cup semi-final to raffle.  To win the pair, email the address below with the correct spelling of Monchengladbach (clue, this is not a trick question).

All entries will be considered, even if you are close, but not totally accurate.  This is more about having a chance to talk to you about about what comes next.  We’re getting to that time of year when the poorest in our own community are most in need of assistance, many of whom are now aided by the Celtic Foundation.  The work the Foundation does with Scotland’s poorest in winter is literally a lifesaver.

The last ticket competition winner made a donation to the Foundation. It was a coincidence. Honest…….  If you would like to make a donation to the Foundation, you can do so here.  As you head off to Celtic Park, or settle down in front of the TV tonight, you’ll feel better knowing that you played your part in the biggest picture that’s carried Celtic all these years.  Be part of the story.

Entries to competition@celticquicknews.co.uk . There were few entries yesterday, so chances of success are relatively high.  Competition closes at 14:00 tomorrow, winner will be informed that day. Make sure I have contact details for you.

Good luck, and enormous thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing.

    Lyon 0- Rubentus 1 .

Watch Rube often enough and eventually you live to see Rube being penalised for their defending by wrestling approach .. Bonucci, the guilty party – great theatrical What for Ref ensued . Buffon saved the penalty . He has been much criticised of late but he was mighty good — 3 fabulous saves ! . Rube played the last 40 minutes with 10 men .. A much better team than Lyon.

Days like today are why CQN is so enjoyable.

Great Celtic talk, then pride reading about Hampden in the sun, then tears of happiness reading the brilliant article on Johnny Doyle.

Where any of you at the Ayr 2 Celtic 1 game? when Johnny was sent off for hitting the ref in the face when crossing the ball.

I was at that one. I travelled on the football special, I think I was 13/14, for the one and only time. If I recall properly it was early in the season, we got off the train at Ayr, it was sunny, by the time we arrived at the ground we were seriously soaked through, one of those proper seaside rainfalls. I think we went one up then it all went pear shaped, 2.1 Ayr, then Johnny unbelievably sent off. The behaviour of our fans coming home on the train was disappointing, hence why I never went back on the train. Today they would have been arrested at 5.00 locked up for the weekend and then realised on 10,000 quid bail.

    Hail Hail

Happy birthday. Have a brilliant day and, indeed, what a day to have a birthday.

  8. The 7–1 game .

Walked it with my old man – Queens Cross to Hampden there and back.. Journey back was extended by a few hundred yards due to there being serious fighting etc near the Plaza Ballroom..

I was there, taken by my Uncle Billy,an Ayr ST holder. On the opposite side of the ground from where JD crossed it,perfect view.

Travesty of a decision. Even the Ayr fans round about agreed. Once they’d stopped laughing, the gits!

Canny hold a candle to the 3-1 travesty v the huns in Jock’s last season, though. Only the 1970 Cup Final can do that, though I have to take the word of JIMBO67 for that.

  25. BMCUW.

The 3.1 game was my first at Ibrox, as a young teenager, I couldn’t believe what I was viewing, quite simply the ref was a cheat.

I raced home, all agitated, to tell my Dad about the injustices, no live TV in those days, he just said son that has happened all my life, that’s why I refuse to go there.

I really couldn’t understand why he wasn’t raging like me, now I know he had just become accustomed to it all. Thankfully live TV has made it slightly better, the cheating is a little more sly now, less obvious.

    Hail Hail
