Plucky green and gold tribute act

820

Last night when Neil Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland that Norwich’s second offer for Gary Hooper was “not as high as £6m” and that despite reports, the club had not tabled a fresh contract offer to the player, you would be forgiven for thinking the entire transfer saga was a product of fantasy.

Neil also confirmed Gary’s contract offer from Celtic is due to expire on 1 February, when I understand the player’s current representation deal also expires.

None of this counts where it really matters.  Gary continues to perform like a player on top of this game.  St Mirren next, then he can start the countdown to Juventus.  Put the Italians in their place and he will attract attention from more than a plucky green and gold tribute act.

A corner of Glasgow stood still today to bid farewell to Sean Fallon.  Sean’s 19 grandchildren delivered touching bidding prayers while son Sean recounted many of the times and habits which shaped his father’s life.  It was a fitting tribute to such a great life, marked by sincere and loving words from Sir Alex Ferguson.

  6. Aye…..Swalex is either working an incredible piece of fakery, or he is proving to be a really decent human being.

An auld cynic like me would like to believe it’s the latter.

    So I’ll try.

  7. What is it about Celtic that attracts men of character and stature to Celtic Park?

Is it our roots? Or our ethos?

Does the club bring out the best in men who grow in the hoops?

In my lifetime I can recite a litany of giants.

How sad that at times the club has treated them rather shabbily.

We stand on the shoulders of giants.

  8. I would give my eye-teeth to be 42 again….that is, if I had any eye-teeth left.

    Paul 67 –

All these media outlets reporting the Spurs boss was up watching Gary Hooper and Tottenham insist Andre Villas-Boas was not in Scotland last night.

Anyone would think the media are making up this stuff…

    I quite agree!

Juventus are a good side, but certainly not invincible.

Deepest condolonces to the family of Sean Fallon – a true Celtic legend. Posted on here the other day how my old dad – who is 88 – maintains that Sean was the hardest player he ever saw.

I reminded him earlier today that Sean was being buried, and he said: “God rest his soul. I’ll soon be joining him!” (!!!).

I was at Christ the King today for Sean’s Funeral. Lovely service and genuinely touching. Also very humbling to be nodded to by Stevie Chalmers and called ‘sir’ by wee Bertie.

  16. Bom dia,

See I managed to screw up one of my Libertadores qualifier predictions last night when Leon struggled to a 1-1 with Deporte Iquique in Mexico. Hopefully, I’ll be better tonight.

We’ve got the second round of Carioca games here and there’s hell on as the games will be kicking off at five o’ clock tonight. Reason being that the (council owned) stadiums where the games are being played have not got floodlights (or more accurately they do – they just don’t work). Nothing like a bit of forethought is there?

Felipão announced his first Brasil squad yesterday and the big surprises are the inclusion of yesteryear’s heroes – Julio Cesar and Ronaldinho. Full squad is:-

    Diego Alves (Valencia)

    Júlio César (QPR)

    Full Backs

    Daniel Alves (Barcelona)

    Felipe Luis (Atletico de Madrid)

    Adriano (Barcelona)

    Centre Backs

    David Luiz (Chelsea)

    Leandro Castán (Roma)

    Dante (Bayern de Munique)

    Miranda (Atlético de Madrid)

    Midfielders (Holding)

    Arouca (Santos)

    Ramires (Chelsea)

    Paulinho (Corinthians)

    Midfielders (Attacking)

    Hernanes (Lazio)

    Lucas (PSG)

    Oscar (Chelsea)

    Ronaldinho Gaúcho (Atlético-MG)

    Strikers

    Neymar (Santos)

    Luis Fabiano (São Paulo)

Brasil play England in London, 06 Feb. They also have games against Italy (Geneva, 21 Mar), Russia (London, 25 Mar), England (Maracanã, 02 Jun) and France (Porto Allegre, 09 Jun) lined up for the first part of this year.

Riquelme followers will be pleased to know that the Palmeiras negotiations have hit a wobble. Juan Roman is apparently waiting on a counter offer from Glasgow, where he hears that Fourth division games bring (nearly) record breaking crowds.

    Aye, right…

    Até mais…

  17. Sean Fallon : unique. Often imitated, but no one could ever do ‘hard’ with such charm, grace and style.

The rarest of men, a true legend in his own lifetime. A wonderful servant to Celtic F.C.

” Here’s to us! Who’s like us!? No one! They’re aw deid! ”

MockSport – Big-spending Gretna have joined the queue to sign contract rebel Gary Hooper from Celtic. Hooper is keen to play in England and Gretna offers an opportunity to move the player closer to his dream switch.
