Plucky green and gold tribute act

820

Last night when Neil Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland that Norwich’s second offer for Gary Hooper was “not as high as £6m” and that despite reports, the club had not tabled a fresh contract offer to the player, you would be forgiven for thinking the entire transfer saga was a product of fantasy.

Neil also confirmed Gary’s contract offer from Celtic is due to expire on 1 February, when I understand the player’s current representation deal also expires.

None of this counts where it really matters.  Gary continues to perform like a player on top of this game.  St Mirren next, then he can start the countdown to Juventus.  Put the Italians in their place and he will attract attention from more than a plucky green and gold tribute act.

A corner of Glasgow stood still today to bid farewell to Sean Fallon.  Sean’s 19 grandchildren delivered touching bidding prayers while son Sean recounted many of the times and habits which shaped his father’s life.  It was a fitting tribute to such a great life, marked by sincere and loving words from Sir Alex Ferguson.

I honestly believe that we have the beating of Juve, possibly on away goals – honest!

… but what do I know?!

    HH!!

  4. We should be concerned if Juventus sign Lissandro Lopez. He is an excellent centre-forward and football player.

He is only been allowed to leave Lyon as they attempt to balance their books in light of the huge capital outlay they are faced with in building their own stadium (Le Grand Stade) to replace their current home, the municipal-owned Stade de Gerland.

  5. Welcome back to the future – or is it the past?!

Juve are not unbeatable .At their best they are a very good team — power / pace / some very good players and the genius that is Pirlo. They badly need a centre forward.

Celtic have to have a Plan A for dealing with Pirlo when he is playing in the Celtic half .

Celtic have to have a Plan B for dealing with Pirlo when he is playmaking from the Juve half . Those long diagonal balls to the on rushing wing backs /fullbacks are very hard to defend against .

Pirlo is world class .. a genius , a magician with the ball

Way to beat Juve is to attack them and stop them building attacking momentum . They start slowly and finish strongly .

  7. I got this from one of the their websites:

“First off, let us summarise the current table: Rangers top the division by an incredible 19 points, their nearest rivals being Queens Park on 33 points who have 2 games in hand. Pause for a moment. 19 points. That is over 6 victories ahead of the Hampden side. It would be astonishing enough to be nearly 20 points ahead come May, but to possess that lead just over halfway through the season is almost embarrassing. It is not only embarrassing to the league the club plays in, but it is embarrassing given Rangers have not won every single match. Far from it.”

Don’t the deluded have short memories were the defunct team not 15 points ahead of us and was it not roughly half way through last season!!! they use the words incredible and embarrassing yet they have the second highest wage bill in Scottish football. I give up!!!

Steinreignedsupreme @ 14:06 I had the pleasure of watching the match last night from the directors box, and was in the boardroom before the game, at half time and after the game. Fergie was in there at half time speaking to Willie Haughey at no point was AVB in there so unless he bought his own ticket I would doubt if he was at the game. The MSM are desparate for us to sell Hooper.

  12. South of Tunis @1743

    Quite.

On their day Juventus can be formidable opponents – disciplined, pacy, defensively sound and physical.

… and then there is Pirlo, as you rightly point out.

… but they are not unbeatable.

They were unbeaten in Serie A last season as you know, but this season they have already lost twice at home in the league – 1-3 to Inter and, recently, 1-2 to Sampdoria.

It largely depends on what side will turn up on the night(s) to determine the outcome – and how Celtic line up and approach the 2 games.

Thanks for posting the pics link to Sean Fallon’s funeral. I doubt most of the younger supporters will realise how important he was to celtic’s success, particularly in the glory days of the 60’s alongside Jock Stein.

It also brought back memories of my dad’s funeral in ’76 Jock, Sean and most of the Lisbon lions were there.

Dundee United fans plan Craig Whyte mask stunt at Rangers match

    By Katie Smyth, 23 January 2013 11.20am.

Paul Mann, Billy Hoon and Iain Brown with Craig Whyte masks.DC ThomsonDundee United fans are being urged to don Craig Whyte masks for their Scottish Cup tie against Rangers next month.

The Glasgow side have made a stance to boycott the Tannadice game on February 2, but those who choose not to follow suit could be confronted by a sea of Arabs in masks of the controversial former owner playfully taunting them.

A post on the Facebook page of one DUFC supporters club, the A90 Arab Society, said: “In tribute to the nemesis of the now defunct Glasgow Rangers and a wee p***-take of the non-boycotting zombies attending Tannadice on February 2, we want 10,000 Arabs wearing a Craig Whyte mask at the Sevco Scottish Cup gemme.”

    Massive Rangers Summer Festival

Mates and I were discussing having a major cultural event in Scotland akin to T in the Park, in response to the demands to put the loyal orders off the road etc, an expression of Britishness or an all-round party for our culture. Some of the figures (most of which would be have been re-invested back into cultural activities) were immense.

If you think about an event for Rangers. It would be amazing to be at, and the flags, banners and sheer brotherhood would be an amazing boost to our culture and the “holiday of a lifetime”. It could also in one fell swoop, wipe out Rangers debt and put us on a sound financial footing.

A camping festival on a large area of open land with stages and marquees etc. Rangers-themed bar owners could run the licencing arrangements and also make money. True-Blue artists could play their music from the stages, and guest speakers could fill marquees, plays could be put on etc. Our culture has plenty of musicians from flute and pipe bands to crooners singing Penny Arcade and old Rangers songs.

People might stump up a lump sum for such a holiday with entertainment provided. A long weekend at T in the Park sees people part with hundreds just to take in the atmosphere and enjoy the music.

If you could mobilise our people (I am sure exiles would come back for it) then I think you could have a Manchester + number of people to save our club. If it became annual we could have one of the richest clubs in the world!!

You could have family areas, people could bring caravans and mobile homes as well as massive tent city. Catering would pay a lot of the costs because they would make a great amount of money and Rangers merchandise would also raise a pretty penny.

£200 for a weekend camping if we had 250,000 is £50m. Costs of provision are only a couple of million. Add the revenues from catering and licencing, merchandising and that pays for the facilities.

We could be talking £50m to buy the club out initially and if it became an annual event £50m for players every year. There is no need to say what that could do for our long term ambitions.

It would encourage artists and be a shot in the arm for publicity. We could potentially police a lot of this ourselves with stewarding. Rangers-minded businesses would make money, and we would not be asking people to part with money for nothing.

It’s just a thought but it is something I think we could make happen, and a model aready exists. Imagine a quarter of a million doing the bouncy or singing Penny Arcade, with flags waving?

What do people think? Could the annual Rangers festival event be the thing that capitalises on the extent of the love of our support and put Rangers on an entirely different level?

In today’s world where it is acceptable, and positively encouraged to seek your 15 minutes of fame irrespective of how talentless, uneducated or lacking in the social graces one may be, it is sad to mark the passing of someone who never sought fame, and passed through life with a quiet dignity.
