Plucky green and gold tribute act

820

Last night when Neil Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland that Norwich’s second offer for Gary Hooper was “not as high as £6m” and that despite reports, the club had not tabled a fresh contract offer to the player, you would be forgiven for thinking the entire transfer saga was a product of fantasy.

Neil also confirmed Gary’s contract offer from Celtic is due to expire on 1 February, when I understand the player’s current representation deal also expires.

None of this counts where it really matters.  Gary continues to perform like a player on top of this game.  St Mirren next, then he can start the countdown to Juventus.  Put the Italians in their place and he will attract attention from more than a plucky green and gold tribute act.

A corner of Glasgow stood still today to bid farewell to Sean Fallon.  Sean’s 19 grandchildren delivered touching bidding prayers while son Sean recounted many of the times and habits which shaped his father’s life.  It was a fitting tribute to such a great life, marked by sincere and loving words from Sir Alex Ferguson.

  5. Last night, despite the early jitters, was the best I have seen Celtic play under Lenny’s management. Prior to last night, it was Saturday’s performance. Something is definitely clicking at Lennoxtown.

re. the front 3. Although Hooper dropped deep, it was much more of an orthodox 4-3-3 than when Commons is in the side, as Hooper got forward as much as he got involved in midfield. Sammi and Lassad’s positioning was much better – they knew when to tuck in and when to go wide. Both Hooper’s goals – brilliantly taken – were provided by Sammi, the first from the left and the second from the right.

On Hooper – he is beginning to develop something of a Larsson aura, not so much in his style of play as in the feeling you have when he gets half a chance. You sense he’ll score, and lo, it is so.

At midfield, Wanyama looked utterly assured in everything he did. He was born to play that deep lying midfield role, and his movement for the 2nd goal was perfect. It was encouraging to see Ledley put in such a great performance, although Kayal looks like he is still forcing things a bit. Those wild swipes at goal aren’t doing his confidence any good.

If Celtic can maintain this momentum throughout February and March, Juventus should be worried.

  6. TET,

    up-over -goal

With you on last nights game ,thought we played some great stuff .Also Kayal did the hard part well and snatched at his shot for what would have been a great goal .That’s a couple of times Lenny has played him higher up the park to get beyond the forwards from deep only for his finishing to let him down ,maybe he is more clinical in training .

    Practice makes perfect

    Hail hail

  14. Being relativley new to this fine blog it is a daily pleasure to read the myriad of opinions of fellow Celts. That was until I read The Singing Detective.

Comments like that have no place here.

  15. TET

Sitting in the bar of The Lerwick Hotel, enjoying a pint of extra cold Tennents, no Guiness here. Deciding what to eat, Duck or Ribeye?

Nice flight up, Scotland covered in snow from 15,000 feet was spectacular.

  16. The singin’ schizoid seems to have been on nosebags of amphetamines and steroids since I had my siesta. What is its purpose on here? They direct extreme vitriol at fellow Tims and Celts with a ferocity to make even the worst of the orkenkind curl their toes in shame and embarrassment: nary a trace of remorse when it knows it’s well stepped over the mark.

A measure of decency is the ability to admit one’s mistakes and when realising one is wrong, promptly make amends.

But no…the singin’ schizoid has the bravery of being out of range, anonymous and an ego the size of Govan.

I have seen some red-carded on here for much less than the idiocy of this insane two-headed dog which studiously avoids crude Anglo-Saxon whilst spewing forth the verbal vomit of the hun. Surely, FollyFolly would be its natural habitat where its pure hatred of Celts would be honoured and lauded?

The best that can be done with such a beast is laugh at it until it withers from self-loathing, for that is surely where their pitiful rage emanates from.

Its sleekitness in ensuring its continued presence here is straight from the Jabba McCoist charm school.

But, what do I know? Not that long ago they thought throwing me from a helicopter was appropriate.

    Lovely.

  17. I’ll be blunt!!! If as reported Hooperman does not want to sign a contract extension, then I say, thanks and goodbye. Imagine not wanting to plat for Celtic! If he does not then bring in someone who does.

If I was manager of us, the first question I’d ask of a new potential signing is, how much does playing for Celtic mean to you!

It’s all about fighting for the cause that is Celtic. Is anybody out there of the opinion that Tony Watt could not fill Gary’s shoes?????

If Hooperman does not want us, then take the money and run.

    Hail Hail
