Police being laughed at by grateful media, Jinky medal comes onto the market

973

Strathclyde Police seem unprepared to decommission the loose cannon that is providing the regular leaks of largely inaccurate information about Celtic fans to the press.  The country’s largest police force have become a regular source of material and hilarity for our media, perhaps best illustrated by their unattributed comment to the Scotland on Sunday, suggesting they plan to “smash the Irish Republican, Marxist, Green Brigade”.

While the police officially claim “these comments do not reflect the view of the Force” the damage is already done.  The stage is set for an inevitable confrontation by a group of supporters who now believe they are being unfairly picked upon (for being Marxist, good grief, I thought they all shaved and suited-up under Tony, including the men!), and a police force, which employs someone who has told the press they are picking on the Green Brigade and which is asked by the Government to challenge pro-IRA chanting.

All political chanting must stop, of course, but I don’t fancy being an officer on the ground who has to pick up the pieces after a very loose tongue has set a scene for confrontation.

Make no mistake, the police are being laughed at by grateful recipients of their media comments, who cannot believe the utter naivety of the Pitt St operation, I have heard this laughter first hand from more than one journo, but the consequences of such dire behaviour will be severe.

I would like to thank everyone who bid on the ebay auction for the Jimmy Johnstone medal. I’m really pleased to let you know that the medal has been withdrawn from sale. Thanks again and sorry if you had already bid.

We are not short of history at Celtic, but there are very few occasions a unique memento of the Greatest Ever Celt becomes available.  The medal is a 47-year-old slice of Celtic folklore, check it out on ebay.

Jinky’s medal heading towards four figures already.

Hopefully that will increase further as people over-indulge in alcohol and well-meant sentiment.

I appreciate that but I think there is a danger of overstating the untapped support.

I watched the league cup game against Hibs in a US supporters club. There was me, the wife and 3 locals.

I appreciate it was a work day but afternoon kick offs in the US are few and far between.

Also I think the ‘expat diehards’ are getting older and not being replaced by new younger fans.

I have no evidence to back that up other than my own thoughts having visited 2 or 3 clubs in the US.

R e prisons perhaps this could solve the problem and also fix the economy..just a wee letter I penned recently to Dave at Downing Street..especially for us over 50s..

    Dear Mr. Cameron,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing the UK ‘s economy.

Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the following

    stipulations:

    1) They MUST retire.

Ten million job openings – unemployment fixed

    2) They MUST buy a new British car.

Ten million cars ordered – Car Industry fixed

    3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed

    4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university – Crime rate fixed

    5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week ….. And there’s your money back in duty/tax etc

It can’t get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

    Also……

Let’s put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home..

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They’d receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they’d receive money instead of paying it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ’s and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised. Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay £600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

    Yours in Celtic

    JM

  15. Philvis,

My point regarding bodies and choppers was, of course, that phrases like ‘short-term pain’ trip far too easily off the tongue of economics ideologues without regard to the individual horrors necessarily contained within.

Your points about the iniquities of the Irish eurozone ‘deal’ are passionately articulated and difficult to disagree with, tbh.

There is little certainty or air of permanence about this or any other of the desperate fumblings towards the seemingly inevitable eurozone break-up or ‘re-organisation’. Death by a thousand rescue packages.

The notion, however, that it’s all jam tomorrow in the sunny uplands after the drachma, lira, punt etc are re-introduced…

…well, hmmm as the man says. To lapse into consultancyspeak, it seems a ‘new paradigm’ is emerging in Europe. The post-war settlement is crumbling, whatever comes next won’t just be a reversion to previous.

Anyway off out to watch Snowtown to cheer myself up:)

More than a ‘stiff letter’ this time formal complaint via the courts is more likely.

Celtic will now bypass the BBC following the Cup Final slur, and their consequential reply

First Celtic game at Paradise 1959, and remember all those games as well, remember being taken down London Road, and seeing the floodlights in the distance on a very cold and foggy November afternoon, and the bright green and White Hoops during the game, I think it was against Partick Thistle, the Joy of it will never leave me, and i still get the same Joy everytime i go to this day Roll on Saturday

  20. fanadpatriot,

I would also caution against overstating the amount of real support Celtic have over here in Ireland.

as probably all the Dubln bhoys can atest to. It’s hard to get a game on the TV in a pub if there is an EPL team playing at the same time, both Euro and EPL proper. even for the Rangers game, you’d need to choose wisely.

I am not saying that there is no support, far from it. and also I’m no saying that there isn’t an interest in Celtic as thier “other team” just little intrest in Celtic being the main team.

IMO the EPL SKY juggernaut, the poor quality of the SPL, the lessening number of Irish national 1st teamers in our squad, and to a lesser extent the successes of the provincial rugby teams are all factors in this.

  21. St Stivs,

It would be intersting to hear from Strathclyde Police – or from any official source for that matter – the following statistics; How many Rangers supporters have been arrested/charged for illegal, sectarian chanting over the last 5 years?; and how many Celtic supporters have been arreste/charged for offensive/political chanting over the last 5 years? Any ideas on how to obtain these statistics?
