Police investigations, FAC

877

Police Scotland officers visited Sports Direct’s Derbyshire offices “investigating takeovers at Rangers”.  The pluralisation is quite important.

Last year Police Scotland opened an investigation into Craig Whyte’s purchase of Rangers from the Duped One, fair enough.  No one previously reported that more than one ‘takeover’ was being investigated.

Sports Direct had no involvement with oldco Rangers, whose merchandising relationship was with JJB, so clearly this police action is not connected to Mr Whyte.  Sports Direct’s only relationship at Ibrox has been newco Rangers.  If newco, who were formed when the assets of oldco were bought in liquidation, is subject to police investigation the potential consequences are far reaching.

Sports Direct were not involved with the asset purchase and were only introduced when the club sought investment and commercial partners, so they played no part in the second takeover (of assets).  Their likely interest to police will be limited to being recipients of correspondence.

An asset purchase which was secured by criminal activity, if discovered, is legally invalid.  This is different from a purchase which breaks civil law.  A civil offence leaves the guilty party open to financial claim.  An asset disposal subject to a criminal offence would see the liquidator seize assets on behalf of the creditors.  Padlocks would be involved, so would lengthy legal processes.

The bar to securing a criminal conviction for such a matter is high and no evidence of such wrongdoing regarding the disposal of Rangers assets has been verified in three years, so don’t expect Padlock Day anytime soon.

I wouldn’t like to be trying to raise money in this climate, though.  Good job the SFA are so thoroughly opposed to letting those with a track record of criminal inclinations controlling football clubs.

Yesterday, Fans Against Criminalisation (FAC) continued their campaign against the truly dreadful law instigated by former First Minister Alex Salmond.  Despite a litany of failed convictions and representation from within football and the wider community, the Scottish Government have refused all requests to repeal the three-year-old law.

You can register your voice against this law by petitioning the Scottish Government to Repeal the Offensive Behaviour’ Act by signing this online petition.  It is a outrageous, politically motivated, law, designed to “equalise” the law-abiding (that’s you) with actual criminals.

Don’t get me started!

  1. After posts last night about the ‘L’ word being used on STV news last night, McLaughlin finds some accuracy on Reporting Scoddland with ” . . .and the subsequent acquisition, following administration and Liquidation, by Charles Green”.

Of the assets, of course. Not the club, it having died. Shame.

  2. Afternoon, got the same response from Celtic as Fourgreenfields regarding officials at Hampden. I didn’t see any public statement from Celtic re the SFA official line, “they didny see it”

By the tone of the reply it looks like we have to jog on… as it won’t reflect well on the club.

I accepted that but now reading on here and I’m starting to simmer…. It is just a case of jog on and I’m flippin well doing it..

Off to work …….thought I’d just share what I heard on radio regarding the election …

According to this blog and others Celtic blogs I read ……….seems like a lot of Tims going to vote SNP ……..

According to a political programme I just heard ……..the Ulster unionists could easily hold balance of power ………there is every chance they will have more seats than ….ukip and greens put together !!

While I have never preached any politics on here…………I think Tims should think long and hard about their vote tomorrow ………can you imagine catholics / Celtic men / women …..putting or helping ulster unionists gain a power that they should never have !!!!

Conservative/ lib /ukip/DUP…….alliance very much on the cards ………so so sad !!!!!!!

    Dear Celtic,

Further to your enquiry following the Scottish cup semi final and alleged hand ball by the ICT player and subsequent non penalty.

Having checked with the six officials on duty around the park at the time of the incident I can confirm that not one of the officials saw the blatant handball by the ICT defender and therefore could not award a penalty.

    Hmm. Fiver!

  13. A distasteful as it is to accept I can see nothing else the club can do but let this go. We all know the ref and his assistant saw the handball, but at the review of the charge against Meekings they claimed to have seen the ball strike his head not his hand. Total nonsense of course but how do Celtic prove they are lying? Now I mean 100% incontrovertible proof not just the TV replays, the ref can always fall back on “in my opinion”. Sad but we cannot win this one.

I expressed the same concern yesterday. There is a very real chance of a Conservative,UKIP and DUP(sic) coalition running this country on Friday and that should be a worrying prospect.

There will be no coalition between Labour and the separatists parties. The Liberals won’t do well at this election so the potential of another Lib Lab pact is remote and probably wouldn’t be enough anyway.

My prediction is a Tory win but not enough them see them as a majority. With Labour second and unable to do any deals it will either be the coalition of dread or another election this year.

As someone who voted yes I believe Scotland returning Labour is our best option this time.

  17. Regarding the Hampden penalty incident ,if they have told Celtic that the officials did not see the handball, and subsequently got the Meekins case thrown out because they did see it, both statements cannot be true. Celtic should have stuck the knife in.

Here’s the thing. If Labour had said they were open to agreement with the SNP, all seats in Scotland would win the ‘anti-Tory’ vote and I think that many would have remained Labour. Perhaps even enough to swing numbers to the extent they wouldn’t need the SNP (via Plaid/Greens etc, probably not though).

Between Better Together and refusing to deal with the SNP to the point of suggesting a Tory govt would be preferable, they’ve kind of shot themselves on the foot.

Labour have been stuck between the rock and hard place. They have been pressured, successfully, by the Tories regarding being hypocrites. Against a separatists party in the referendum but willing to do deals with them to the detriment of the union, understand their dilemma. This is the reason I’m voting Labour but each to their own.

Anyway, come Friday we’ll still be Champions even if the DUP(sic) are in power.

I suspect you’re being disingenuous there, because it’s hard to believe that anyone would be so stupid as to believe that.

But just on the off chance this is how it would work.

If it’s a hung Parliament Miliband would try to form a government.

It would then be up to the SNP to decide if they would vote to support that government or not.

If they decided not to then it’s likely the Tories would remain in office.

It’s entirely a call for the SNP.

Support Labour or let the Tories win.
