Police Scotland and the SFA in the dock

498

Former Newco Rangers director, Imran Ahmad, made a few headlines yesterday, the most disturbing of which was: “I firmly believe Police Scotland have their own agenda and are deeply emotionally connected to Rangers Football Club. In my view Police Scotland have a clear conflict of interest.”

That’s an extraordinary claim but I’m not sure it’s supported by extraordinary evidence. There is certainly evidence that Police Scotland investigate and arrest supporters of the club at football games, where prosecution levels are comparatively high. There is not extraordinary evidence to support the claim, but perhaps that’s the point.

The police go after fans, but how does it shake down when it comes to corporate matters? Set aside issues of corporate responsibility from the early 70s, and there are no concerns of criminal activity at Ibrox until the spectre of malfeasance of recent years.

By speaking publicly yesterday Ahmad is now engaged in a PR campaign. He’s marked Police Scotland’s card. This may be the rantings of a fantasist, but we should recognise that Ahmad has been an insider at Ibrox, where he would have had the opportunity to deal with senior Police Scotland officers on a regular basis. Superficial friendships would have been struck. Ahmad would need little in the way of private support when a director of Newco to substantiate his claims.

The headline grabber from Ahmad, “What the rest of the world will never understand unless they experience it first hand is that Rangers Football Club is a religion, in itself, built on centuries of religious bigotry” is also a curious think to say.

To be fair to Newco, they can bat away accusations of religious bigotry easily. Employment criteria for them has never been questioned, but Ahmad’s stuck his neck out on an issue which I’m 100% sure he wasn’t asked about. What chance he’s made notes during his time at Ibrox of any inappropriate police behaviour, or matters which allude to religious bigotry?

Mr Ahmad is asking Crown prosecutors for a letter of safe passage. I reckon he stands a decent chance of getting one.  Now.

No matter whether they are innocent or guilty, the SFA have been landed in a very awkward situation by Ajax, who told Uefa the Association made it clear they saw no ground for action against fans chanting “Fenian b…….”

It’s inconceivable that Ajax have an email to that effect.  If they do, it will come out, and Operation Deny and Deflect will swing underway again, but these comments would surely never be committed to record, if at all.

Ajax are also in a hole.  They have made a claim and will be asked who at the SFA made the comment.  You can put your mortgage on the fact Celtic officials will ask this week.

Prejudice at the police and the SFA.  It’s been a difficult week for conspirators.

Our auction for hospitality at Sunday’s Dundee game for three people, eat and drink in the Walfrid and watch the game from the Directors’ Box, ends at 12:38 TODAY.  Check in here for your last chance to bid.  Many thanks to club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing for donating the prize.

I think at times I am guilty of believing the rubbish in the MSM come up with about Celtic forgetting that in this bigoted wee country they have an agenda as far as Celtic and there supporters are concerned.I think im not alone in believing there guff and I believe currently they are churning out all sorts against our great club and why now more than any other time you may ask yourself ? Well it is a long time since the establishment team have looked as strong and I believe they are paving the way for next season so the nonsense will fill the papers and TV and the men in black will make all sorts of weird calls against our team.So what are we doing about it well many of us are having a go at our manager and PL our players and screaming for change which plays right into the MSMs hands. Now is not the time for falling out now is the time to stick together and support all things Celtic we may not have the best team we have seen in recent years but we can still win the SPL but we need to stick together and be faithful through and through. H.H.

Right now we have matters closer to home to concern us.

Given the huge number of what we are told are coincidences that point to tarrier involvement at a variety of levels, then anyone denying it is feckin crazy to me!”

  9. If they want to clean up sectarianism in scotland, the clubs must accept strict liability for the supporters. I’m surprised celtic haven’t campaigned for this.

  10. I like the new CQN format. Articles that are interesting are posted that we can read but can’t blog

This is one of these articles

    More important things to discuss

The PL plan that has been failing on the park for a number or years has left us with no Center halfs and one striker

Chairbhoy, McDonnell’s appointment confirms that Labour are on another suicide mission. This car crash will be hilarious. A spectacular mountain of batsh*t awaits. Stark raving bonkers.

  12. I’m more interested in Thursday, and if the players are going to give their best for the supporters.

Are they going to be “scared” again?

I expect Celtic to be breathing fire against Ajax, we need to show that we are a good team.

At this moment, all we can do is hope that the players show they are good enough.

They should be…considering the hype and money they receive for doing their jobs.

Its up to the players to restore a bit of faith.

As for PL….his time has come.

  18. It’s interesting that a piece on the SFA in connection with the Ajax “Fenian B…..ds” banner doesn’t deserve blog time but the constant griping at all things Celtica should go on ad infinitum.

We don’t know what the SFA told Ajax, to me the Ajax version of events sound genuine.

We know what they should have said, the same thing they should have said when they were asked to comment on the Kirk Broadfoot ban.

The SFA does not condone racism in any form within Football, we have a zero tolerance approach to Sectarianism.

Why does it find these questions so difficult to deal with? That is key, for me.

” Police Scotland have their own agenda and are deeply emotionally connected to Rangers Football Club. ”

One of the reasons Celtic are more than a Club to me , is because of my belief that the above statement is true. I further believe it to be true of The Establishment in general in Scotland. I cannot remember it having been aired nationally before. Yet, some on here think it is a distraction from their crusade to show how terrible Celtic are.

In spite of the efforts of the CONSTANTLY negative, I still see a successful future for Celtic. This is reinforced every time I go to Celtic Park and see crowds between 40 and 50 thousand . Had those eternal pessimists been accurate, our crowds should be around the 10 thousand mark by now 0:-)

Lovely day for a bike ride.

PS I see the Griff is arguing as I suggested. ie he was not calling Thomson a cheat; just saying he would have been influenced by the Home crowd. We`ll see how that goes with the impartial footballing bodies!

  20. On KDS there is a few posts about Ronny only(!) earning 2k to 2.5k a week. If it’s true, this is the most alarming thing I’ve heard this season at CFC. Do the board consider our most important person at the club to be of this stature?

Dave King (the chair of RIFC) is ad-libbing, off-piste and causing the implementation of emergency damage limitation exercises,

A former insider at the current version of Establishment club states the Police are biased towards them and the club is deepy ingrained with bigotry.

The disciplinary services manager at the national football association (Scottish Fraudball Association) advise they don’t consider “Fenian B*****d” to be offensive.

These last 3 have all arisen in the last few days.

Who and what would the MSM, and followers of Sevco (and possibly even people paid to do so) would like Celtic supporters to be discussing?

  27. CAPTAIN BEEFHEART @ 2015 10:43 AM,

Well that could be the case, the a-moral, rudderless Labour Party was failing at every level.

If Jeremy Corbyn gets some real social and economic discussion going on in Westminster then so be it, it was about time something shock their cosy lives.

Keynesian economics provided equality, and Glass-Steagall provided stability for over half a Century. The people who made these pillars dirty words, conned us. We have an Economic system that works for 10% of the people and miserably fails 30% of the people who are quite simply disenfranchised.

Sure, we can’t go back to the thirties, but we can put in place solid economic principles, efficient regulation and a fair tax system.

To make it work, you have to be inclusive and re-energise all in the economy.

Cornyn and McDonell are actually a lot more entrepreneurial than the staid, Corporate failed Tory model.

They’ve got a huge ask to get voted in, but if they can put some of the alternative thinking into the Political agenda, for me it can only be good.

And If you think we haven’t seen the Labour car-crash you haven’t been paying attention, all but wiped out in Scotland the Torys in power in England – by 2020 the Conservatives are going to have their Ayn Rand state.

Labour failed spectacularly… Hope Corbyn et al can bring some life and meaning to the husk.

    Hail Hail
