Police Scotland and the SFA in the dock

498

Former Newco Rangers director, Imran Ahmad, made a few headlines yesterday, the most disturbing of which was: “I firmly believe Police Scotland have their own agenda and are deeply emotionally connected to Rangers Football Club. In my view Police Scotland have a clear conflict of interest.”

That’s an extraordinary claim but I’m not sure it’s supported by extraordinary evidence. There is certainly evidence that Police Scotland investigate and arrest supporters of the club at football games, where prosecution levels are comparatively high. There is not extraordinary evidence to support the claim, but perhaps that’s the point.

The police go after fans, but how does it shake down when it comes to corporate matters? Set aside issues of corporate responsibility from the early 70s, and there are no concerns of criminal activity at Ibrox until the spectre of malfeasance of recent years.

By speaking publicly yesterday Ahmad is now engaged in a PR campaign. He’s marked Police Scotland’s card. This may be the rantings of a fantasist, but we should recognise that Ahmad has been an insider at Ibrox, where he would have had the opportunity to deal with senior Police Scotland officers on a regular basis. Superficial friendships would have been struck. Ahmad would need little in the way of private support when a director of Newco to substantiate his claims.

The headline grabber from Ahmad, “What the rest of the world will never understand unless they experience it first hand is that Rangers Football Club is a religion, in itself, built on centuries of religious bigotry” is also a curious think to say.

To be fair to Newco, they can bat away accusations of religious bigotry easily. Employment criteria for them has never been questioned, but Ahmad’s stuck his neck out on an issue which I’m 100% sure he wasn’t asked about. What chance he’s made notes during his time at Ibrox of any inappropriate police behaviour, or matters which allude to religious bigotry?

Mr Ahmad is asking Crown prosecutors for a letter of safe passage. I reckon he stands a decent chance of getting one.  Now.

No matter whether they are innocent or guilty, the SFA have been landed in a very awkward situation by Ajax, who told Uefa the Association made it clear they saw no ground for action against fans chanting “Fenian b…….”

It’s inconceivable that Ajax have an email to that effect.  If they do, it will come out, and Operation Deny and Deflect will swing underway again, but these comments would surely never be committed to record, if at all.

Ajax are also in a hole.  They have made a claim and will be asked who at the SFA made the comment.  You can put your mortgage on the fact Celtic officials will ask this week.

Prejudice at the police and the SFA.  It’s been a difficult week for conspirators.

  1. Not as if we don’t have previous for underpaying managers – ask Billy McNeil. The KDS thread on second inspection is hardly definitive. Though to be fair, a lot less hun spanners there than on here.

  2. What is the Stars on

    Operation deny and deflect.

Celtic going backwards but let’s have an article about the big bad blue wolf ( the dead big bad blue wolf) .oh what wotten weligious bigots they were. ….blah blah

Meanwhile in Lennoxtown Ronny says. ..now boys we must be eating our lentils, dis surely is for why you don’t understand my tactics. ..

You commons, eat your greens fatty, I don’t care if you can play futbal, what dis matters to me. ( Translated from norwegian by my Lennoxtown mole)

  3. It was a complete surprise to me when I saw Imran Ahmad’s comments in writing and featured on the BBC site.

Does that attract a banning or a boycott for Auntie?

It certainly isn’t news to any on here, the pertinent points being that Rangers were an institution steeped in religious bigotry and that the police were up to their sergeants’ stripes in collusion.

The evidence is all underneath the carpet.

Negative reports before a big game is not novel. It has been a staple seller for as long as I remember, and I can remember the green Citizen and Lobey Dosser.

It’s good to see posters commenting on a variety of topics and ignoring the calls to jump on the hand wringing bandwagon.

im sure that all CQNers can walk and chew gum. Or in today’s digital world should that read walk and text?

  4. The Ajax fans almost got it right with their ‘Fenian Bastards’ chant.

What they can add to be more accurate is ‘Unrepentant Fenain Bastards’. Then they’ll be talking.

Stick big Jozo in there and bring ’em on.

  5. It’s the same posters as on here, only diff. Nice. In my opinion. It’s what they do, blitz all the Celtic sites along with the Huns and get the negativity train rolling with there agenda.

  6. Neganon2 – Believe it or not I’m broadly in agreement with most of what you’ve written today. Just a couple of minor points. Are you really saying that there are laws in place that criminalise Irish Catholicism?

Also it would be more correct to say you believe that Celtic colluded in what happened with TRFC. As I’m not sure there’s any proof. My feeling on that that, is that all clubs were broadly in agreement (which is bad enough) but didn’t know the details that Regan, Doncaster et al would put in the 5 way agreement.

On Corbyn I think you’re spot on. I think commentators completely overlook the SNP-effect, thinking it’s not applicable down South. Most people are very superficial with their interest in politics. It’s my view that it wasn’t the nationalism that got people on the SNP side but the superficially socialist policies. I think there will be a similar groundswell behind Corbyn, although he may not be the man that ultimately leads a more socialist leaning Labour to victory.

  7. lennon's passion on

We have our own problems but to ignore Police Scotland is very dangerous. When the toilets at parkhead got smashed up on a visit from RANGERS it was a cop who got charged. Sectarian bunch of criminals. From charging us in Jainfield street years ago to kettleing the young marchers recently. Changing sectarian attacks on chapels to vandalism to cover up the statistics.

  8. Saltires

Of course, happy to have Ronny to be given the time to sort it out at Lennoxtown, I’m sure Roy ( bonkers ) Kean would get the same, had he accepted the remit.

I’d imagine that’s what the supporters want, despite the usual internet keyboard bangers.

I think our Board simply avoided giving them all ammunition, in the knowledge that oldco were heading for the abyss, closely followed now by sevco …… Once they are gone the other Clubs in the Scottish leagues will settle into a new non-corrupt era….

  11. Mmmm put this along with the senior officer who was attested for making a comment to a Celtic supporting officer, the day after the Malmo home game and we migjt have a story.

Ahmed is jumping on a bandwagon trying to gain the upper hand by using this thing we have all known for many years, he wasn’t offended or taken aback when Chic referred him as his little……. friend, why are they picking up on it now, it’s been there for 800 years….

    Ayrshire is Green and White

  12. Weeminger – yes we have.. We have the only law probably in the world (certaintly the western world) where you could be arrested for blessing yourself. And the only law where you could be arrested for singing a irish song that you could buy anywhere.

With regards to collusion your amendment is fine by me. But I think on every angle you can think of they probably did.

DETECTIVE Chief Inspector Ruth Gilfillan, who leads Police Scotland’s Human Trafficking Unit, was arrested at work after she allegedly used sectarian language.

Ruth Gilfillan, of Police Scotlands National Human Trafficking Unit at the Scottish Crime Campus at Gartcosh

A SENIOR police officer has been charged with a sectarian hate crime after an argument with a colleague.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruth Gilfillan, who leads Police Scotland’s Human Trafficking Unit, was arrested at work after she allegedly used sectarian language.

She has since been transferred from her base at the Scottish Crime Campus in Gartcosh, Lanarkshire.

Gilfillan has been posted to the force’s administrative headquarters in Glasgow’s Dalmarnock while waiting for the outcome.

It is not thought police have started disciplinary proceedings against Gilfillan, 43, but that would follow if the case results in a conviction.

One source said: “It appears to have started out as an argument about football and the allegation is that it went too far.

“DCI Gilfillan is said to have been having a discussion with a male detective constable who is a Celtic fan.

“It is claimed she used unacceptable language during the discussion.”

Police Scotland have repeatedly stated their determination to tackle sectarian abuse and behaviour after anti-sectarian laws were introduced by the Scottish Government in 2011.

The controversial Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act has resulted in hundreds of people being arrested for alleged offences, mainly at matches.

Officers have been ordered to tackle sectarian singing and a list of banned songs has been compiled by the authorities.

But the new laws have been criticised and figures reveal conviction rates are just over 50 per cent.

  15. I Heard He Was Dead

On current performances I posted this in late hours.

Even questioned as another poster did later need for attacking full backs. Anyway have a read.

    Fill in the blanks.

” The build up story was that the champions were visiting the runners up, and the two managers, xxxx and yyyy were resuming an intense rivalry. The post mortems however, were very different, as ZZZZ fans lamented the lack of spirit and the utter fragility of their seemingly powerful squad. AAAAA dominated the game from start to finish, making a lasting impression in the minds of many, not least the current champions.

I would not say Aberdeen dominated the game from start to finish in fact some stats made that Celtic dominated but that apart the above could have been about Aberdeen v Celtic on Saturday.

It was Man City v Chelsea

     http://outsideoftheboot.com/2015/08/18/tactical-analysis-manchester-city-3-0-chelsea/

and there is a tactical analysis of both sides for those who are interested.

My point though is if the same thing that is happening to us as is happening at Chelsea how does any solution that requires a sacking of the manager or overthrow of the club or stretching the budget actually address the problem?

I did notice in watching a Chelsea game one of their full backs, the big fella. had a night mare. Last year he was solid as a rock. So what has changed. Do advancing years have an impact, is it “seen it, done it canny be arsed”?

Has John Terry passed his shelf life?

I think our problems are more on the park than off, but even if they were not at least what is on the park can be addressed much more easily than a revolution off it.

The conclusion though seems as apt for Celtic as for Chelsea although Celtic are unlikely to ship as many points as Chelsea are so RD has a bit more time to fix.

Of all the causes the ones that point to formation look the most likely, particularly when bedding in new players.

For a start why have two flying wingers to act as cover for two flying full backs? In the first 30 mins v Malmo Armstrong had their full back on toast. That means when we do lose possession in midfield (or give it away as we do) we have two full backs better placed to cover rather than running back. Let the wingers take on the defenders just get the ball to them early enough on their half turn.

Its the little things in football that matter on the park.

     Conclusion re Chelsea

” With pretty much the entire season still left, 5 points is far from insurmountable, especially for a team like Chelsea. What might be tougher to get over is the psychological impact. City made Chelsea look quite soft in every department. Difference makers from last season like Diego Costa and Hazard had literally no impact on the game. Mourinho better fix this and quick, because the next game is a trip to West Brom, a ground that has traditionally brought bad news for Chelsea managers.

Good to see Andy and Jamie Murray finally getting a game at Celtic Park today, along with the rest of the Davis Cup team that is. Fair enough it was only the crossbar challenge against the Celts, which John Kennedy won for the bhoys.

  17. On the main CQN article itself there is no doubt that what has happened at Ibrox has thrown up a huge mirror that Scottish society is afraid to look into.

So they look the other way because what is in the mirror is ugly.

( I’ve been watching Once Upon A Time).

It’s not just football it’s our media who make a living off it and it’s not just football that is being damaged it’s our society.

Who really looks forward to a toxic club being part of the “competition” we face next season? Well the DR for one.

This post from SFM asks the question what is the purpose of the DR and others afraid to publish the truth?

I’m truly aghast at what I’ve just stumbled across on the official Daily Record website:

    ===========

    Auldheid

That must be the most irresponsible piece of claptrap published in the annals of the DR history.

No doubt there will be some balancing counter piece but I want to focus on the wider issue of the damage being done to Scottish society by our media.

Some might remember SFM approached a number of journalists with the evidence kept from LNS.

Not one denied the argument but not one published. More recently other journos have been approached and again there has been no counter argument made because the story stands up, but again no one has published.

The relevance to the deluded article is that it is only possible because our smsm media are sitting on the story of deception.

They in effect enable such an uninformed article to appear because they are keeping the truth from its author.

This is incredibly damaging to our society never mind football by stoking the flames that the same publication depends on to keep their falling sales from hitting the floor.

The DR need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask. Just what exactly is their purpose?

  18. I have no doubt in my mind that this young Celtic player talking up the game an being positive will not sit right with some in here, including the Huns, anyway hear it is for you to rip apart, you’ve been doing it for the last four days, don’t stop now ffs.

CELTIC find themselves in a tough UEFA Europa League group alongside Ajax, Fenerbahce and Molde of Norway, and hot on the heels of an away game in Amsterdam, the Hoops will host Fenerbahce on Thursday, October 1 – the first competitive meeting against Turkish opposition.

So a good start is imperative if the team want to replicate their achievement of last season and qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. And going into Thursday’s game at the Amsterdam ArenA, the Celtic squad will also have to put all domestic disappointments to one side.

It was a long journey back down the road from Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon on the Celtic team bus following the 2-1 defeat at Pittodrie. If they could have, the players would have liked to get straight back out on the pitch to play another match to try and put the disappointment behind them.

As it is, they don’t have to wait too long as they’re in action this Thursday night against Ajax in the opening group-stage game of the UEFA Europa League.

The Amsterdam ArenA is a tough venue for the Hoops in their bid to return to winning ways, although as Gary Mackay-Steven explained, it’s the ideal opportunity not only to get a good result but also to set down a marker for the rest of the European campaign.

“It’s good we’ve got a massive game to look forward to on Thursday,” Mackay-Steven told the Celtic View. “We can put a lot of things right. It’s never nice to lose and we’re not used to losing.

“We have a winning mentality. Nobody accepts a loss, but they happen and we need to show what we’re made of, so Ajax can’t come quickly enough.

“I think we have a point to prove, especially after the second leg against Malmo in the Champions League play-off. We didn’t feel that we played to the levels we can in that game, through one thing or another.

“So it’s definitely a chance to showcase that we belong at that level. We need to prove it, and we’ve done it before. There is no reason, if everyone is playing like we know they can, that we can’t go to Amsterdam and get a positive result.”

  19. British Army Regiment applied to enter a team in the GAA London Junior Championship, Major Fox of the Irish Guards presented their case to the delegates of the County Board. Have not read back (apologies no time)

We are where we are at this time of the year due to our continual cost cutting measures.

We will come good domestically once the new bhoys have settled in. Same as every year. It will be closer but that´s what we want eh ! It will be marketed as the non european qualifiers getting better and Celtic getting poorer. European competition will tell us the truth. Where will we end up in the EL group ? This is why Lenny quit…projects to be sold. We all knew that VVD and JD were for the offski. If Leigh Griffiths can turn around his early season non apperances to become a mainstay …first name on the teamsheet ..then what does it say about Ronny ?

I think the problem with the entire squad is that Ronny does as he is told rather than the club adhering to his singular vision. Was Izzy injured for the Malmo game or did he get the blame for our inability to defend crosses and set pieces ? He must be sick carrying Broonie and Johansen in midfield and then being dropped when those around him play pishfully.
