Police Scotland’s minor incidents, Dave King, brilliant again

254

I know and respect Canon Tom White, who was attacked and spat upon after Mass as an Orange Walk passed St Alphonsus at the Barras.  Fr Tom is parish priest at St Marys’s, Calton, the church were Br Walfrid decided to form a football club in 1887.  He minsters to an overwhelmingly underprivileged part of the city, just as it was when Celtic were formed.  When you speak to the man, you appreciate the drive to use our great football club for the reasons it was first conceived – to help those in need.

Police Scotland initially described what happened, not as a crime, but as a “minor incident” until the Archdiocese drew attention to the matter, at which point they realised this could not be swept under the brogues.  It is now recorded as a hate crime.

Tweets of support from politicians are useless if they do not address the key question: what level of assault is required on a priest before Police Scotland are prepared, under their own measures, to consider a crime has been committed?

Today we know that level is higher than it should be, and that is the issue politicians should address.

On Friday, lawyers for Sports Direct went to court to assert their rights to match “some or all” of a third party’s offer to sell Newco merchandise.  These rights were acquired under a contract, signed by Newco under Dave King’s regime.

The court issued an interim injunction, stopping any Newco branded merchandise from being sold (including replica strips).

The initial contract Dave King agreed with Sports Direct, allowed the retailer to match whatever offer Newco could get from a third party.  Sports Direct are, therefore, entitled to the retail profits from Newco merchandise for a period which has not been confirmed yet.  These profits will be significant.

This clause should have been cash neutral for Newco.  They simply needed to get a competitive bids from other retailers, then allow Sports Direct to pass or take whatever they wanted – on the same terms.

Now we are in a different space.  Any contracts made with other retailers are legally enforceable by the retailer, but impossible for Newco to deliver without satisfying Sports Direct.  Or, I suppose, committing Contempt of Court – you know Dave!

I suspect they simply forgot about the Sports Direct contract, which speaks of a competency you and I can scarcely comprehend.  Rushing out a blabbering statement about the SPFL chairman on Saturday has to be the most transparent attempt to pull wool over their own supporters’ eye yet.

The worst (best) possible person campaigned to get control of Newco.  He chased one of Europe’s richest men away.  Each year he re-invents the same old garbage about having everything in place, while the only achievement he manages to record is the compliance of pet journalists and media organisations.

The entire club has reached an utterly brilliant level of dysfunction.  You know how this ends.

  1. I must have missed it. I am sure the spokesman for the OO was gushing forth with concern about the welfare of the priest and parishioners who were assaulted.

No? Surely the first thought on this caring, compassionate and upstanding member of the community was to care for the victim of this crime?

Not a bar of it. His only concern, it wasn’t a member of the actual march.

The fact that the march itself triggered the assault seems to have escaped this persons mind.

It is understandable though, I mean, trying to cope with more than one thought at a time is challenging for such people.

The assailant was not affiliated in any way to the Orange Order. That is what we were told from the outset, and must believe unless it can be proven otherwise.

    (After all,they are honourable men!)

However,we were also told-eventually-in the initial POLICE SCOTLAND response-that it was a minor matter. And that was how it was reported by the few news outlets who could be bothered.

For once,I praise The Sun,certainly the first MSM outlet to even mention it.

Now,as it happens,I know quite a few lodge members. I’m sure many of us do. I’ve never seen any bystanders at an Orange walk carrying a baton. That’s a highly privileged role indeed.

And if,in fact, some hinger-oan was walking about with a baton-an offensive weapon,if used in such a manner-why was it not confiscated earlier?

No way, that assailant was a well-connected and ranking member, and had probably been at the head of the parade.

Frankly, they’re tying themselves in knots here. As always,it’s not the offence which brings you down,it’s the cover-up.

I hope this assault galvanises the young and not so young who no longer attend mass

The assault only took place because as orcs do they attacked what they perceived to be a weak powerless priest and some older parishioners.

I in a bit of agreement with Turkeybhoy because if the younger parishioners had been in attendance this wouldn’t have occurred..

Secular Scotland makes you feel embarrassed about admitting to being a church attender and I have been involved in a few debates on Cqn in the past also..

Let’s hope it reignites the faith of the young to be more than a Saturday catholic( roaming in the gloom in etc)

I know that Celtic is open to all but this topic is around the assault of a priest and his parishioners

Just lost a long post on this topic, page reloaded. Conspiracy,I tell ye!

The problem that the authorities now have is to deal with the fall-out. They’ve clearly lied about the initial incident, and the truth is out there.

Now,the PR ick, sorry, guy, who initially told everyone it was only a minor incident,he has a lot of questions to answer. Apparently all of the attending police officers had run off on a wild goose,or red herring, chase.

So where did he get his “information” from?

Which senior officer cleared all of this, the red herring, the detour via St Alphonsus, the accompanying lies?

Why were the officers involved so happy to go along with the initial play, and the following cover-up?

Is it likely that,as JOHN51 suggested yesterday, that this might be a defining Stephen Lawrence-type moment for the police, and their attitude to a minority?

It’s the lies and the cover-up that will do for them on this. If,and only if,someone keeps the pressure up.

  6. It’s the lies and the cover-up that will do for them on this. If,and only if,someone keeps the pressure up.–

BMCUWP, unfortunately the last line of your post, in fact the last 8 words, is why (and I will say it again) unfortunately nothing will be done. I can see no one pursuing this as it could lead to trouble, as in the orcs find out where they live etc.

As I say unfortunate, that we live in this backword country, ffs the whole world is changing around us and yet we still have to put up with this shoite. I hope some brave forward thinking champion steps up to the plate to fight this head on.

    Aye,good point.

But,for once we have them on the back foot. In a clearly indefensible position.

Go for the throat on the commanding officer, the PR spokesman, and get a hold of the reports from the junior officers that day.

And,for those who are in a position to do the above, but are too cowardly to do so,you can roast in hell along with the scum you have condoned.

  8. David66

    I’m not saying you’re wrong.

I’m not for a second denying the levels of institutional sectarianism that exist. And the degree of arse covering now taking place.

And I’m not saying it’ll be easy.

But think how much further this reaction and protest has already come, mainly down to internet and twitter bampottery. Had it not been for that, I’m sure the story would never have been known beyond the actual victims and their family and friends.

In this era of mass media guiding the masses, it’s also the oppressed’ best weapon in the fight for justice.

  19. Morning all.

I haven’t read back since last night. But I have to say I was shocked and annoyed (I suppose foolishly) that the “Show Racism the Red Card” organisation allowed itself be used to deflect attention from anti-Irish/Catholic sectarianism to conflate this with accusing Celtic (and their support) of racism. I say Celtic because they took a swipe at our manager’s comment.

May I suggest that as the teams come out for both the first and second halfs, at every game until we see some action that we have a red display, with the message: Show sectarianism the red card. I would advocate this especially at Euopean ties, as it might get UEFA to ask the SFA a few questions.

    Good call.

I must say,I find it strange-from personal experience-that an organisation like SRTRC hits on Celtic supporters. I know we aren’t saints, but they do seem to target certain clubs while ignoring others.

Heyho, take the government funding, have a pop at them fenian bassas, pocket another few quid from MSM interviews. It’s a great career.

  22. Silver City 1888 on

Odd that SRtRC puts out a statement hitting out at Celtic just as the forces of anti Irish racists are facing a period of rather sticky PR. This alleged incident occurred 2 months ago.. I find myself asking the Ally McOist question. Who are these people?

  23. celticforever on

surely if srtrc are investigating the shay logan accusations they should be investigating the racism to scotty sinclair at ibrox last season and the season before

also if the orange order have made a statement that the assault was carried out by someone else then that in itself is an admission that an assault did take place

Why are some tabloids still calling it an ALLEGED assault then

  24. The Celtic support have to IGNORE Shay Logan – a journey man footballer – ignore him.
