Policing as Celtic return to Lanarkshire

291

Celtic fans return to Lanarkshire on Saturday, just a few miles away from New Douglas Park, where Hamilton Accies and Celtic fans were both harassed while cooperating together to protest against the Offensive Behaviour’ Act.

The policing at Hamilton two weeks ago was politically motivated. It used recent legislation, ostensibly designed to protect society from sectarianism, to prohibit peaceful political protest. The concerted forces of the Scottish Government and Police Scotland has ensured that your freedom to stage peaceful political protest is been enormously curtailed in recent years – banners bearing the message “Accies against the Act” were confiscated.

If you were subject to any of the well documented police action at Hamilton, and intend travelling to Motherwell on Saturday, do not be surprised if you are singled out.

Fir Park Motherwell is a considerably more combustible venue than New Douglas Park. It has been the scene of vandalism, general hooliganism and a pitch invasion to taunt opposition fans in recent times. Police appear reluctant to get involved with fans for these activities at Motherwell. As a football fan, it is your political views you have to watch out for.

Before planning your trip to Motherwell it’s worth revisiting this comment by Brogan Rogan’ last week.

Also take a look at the Citizens Advice notice on police powers in Scotland. If police search you, even if no offence has been committed, they can seize whatever they want. Some pretty innocuous political dissent has been proscribed.  I’m appalled – and so are some officers I know.

Living on the streets in winter in Scotland has to be one of the most challenging aspects of humanity.  Next month, you can share what this means, by sleeping trackside at Celtic Park with dozens of others for the Foundation, as part of hte 2015 Christmas Appeal.  The Celtic Foundation provide nourishment and shelter to the many of the city’s homeless each winter.

This is social outreach at its hardest.  There is nothing easy about sleeping rough in Scotland.  You can find out more here.  Join in and aim to raise £125.  Well done to the dozens already signed up.

A dwarf with a lisp goes into a stud farm.

“I’d like to buy a horth” he says to the owner of the farm. “What sort of horse?” said the owner. “A female horth” the dwarf replies.

So the owner shows him a mare. “Nithe horth.” says the dwarf, “Can I thee her eyeth?”

So the owner picks up the dwarf to show him the horses eyes. “Nithe eyeth.”, says the dwarf,

“Can I thee her teeth?” Again the owner picks up the dwarf to show him the horses teeth. “Nithe teeth…. can I see her eerth?” the dwarf says.

By now the owner is getting a little fed up but again, picks up the dwarf to show him the horses ears. “Nithe eerth”. he says, Now…can I see her twot?”

With this the owner picks the dwarf up by the scruff of his neck and shoves his head deep in just under the horses tail. He holds him there for a couple of seconds before pulling him out and putting him down.

The dwarf shakes his head and says: “Perhaps I should weefwaze that…

Can I see her wun awound?”

Cannot wait for Saturday so that posters can talk about what happened on the field instead of the hypothetical nonsense being discussed on here tonight.

I hope our new Croatian defender is available for selection on Saturday and that we may get a rare sighting of Scott Allan.

Our two upcoming games against Molde give us a great opportunity to progress into the last 32..I hope we will be up to the challenge.

I hope Mark McGhee does a good job at Motherwell but hopefully it will take a game or two to get into his stride.I remember his Motherwell team taking vital points off of first Rangers in 2008.

Celtic investors are being targeted by suspected ‘boiler room’ fraudsters.

Club bosses warned shareholders to be vigilant after some received suspicious calls, asking questions about their investments in the football club.

A spate of calls have been reported to officials at Parkhead who issued a warning to those affected.

They urged shareholders not to reveal personal details.

In a statement, the club said: “Shareholders should be extremely wary of any unsolicited advice, offers, approaches or other communications regarding their shares and personal information.

“Following a recent increase in the prevalence of so called ´boiler room´ scams, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries have produced advice warning investors about unsolicited communications concerning investment matters.”

It is thought the calls may be linked to a share scam, where fraudsters offer worthless, overpriced or even non-existent shares.

The statement added: “If the call persists, hang up.”

Parkhead shareholders have previously been warned about ‘boiler room’ scams.

  9. This is a moonhowling first from me. At Cork Airport catching an early morning flight to Malaga so just thought I’d poke my nose in and say hello.

  10. Congratulations to big Mark McGhee in getting back to his old job at Motherwell.

I think that he’ll do a grand job there were, on his last period in office…his MFC team played football the Glasgow Celtic Way….well, almost….imho.

He certianly done us a favor in WGS’s 3 iar season taking four points off the cheating-ebt-mibbery-assisted-huns at Fir Park.

I wish him the best of luck….after this weekend of course.

But, dont be surprised if he shows the world why….RD is Celtic’s ‘killing-time-manager’…till the died huns return to cheat us again….knowing that they’ll get away with it coz of, Celtic PLC’s compliant-silence…..aye.

If, things go the wrong way for us v Motherwell this week and, big Mark McGhee bags the

points….dont expect to see him doing a Ronny-roar….that type of thing is for cheap-puppet-imposters….imho.

Shaun Maloney…..he’s got to be the highest earner in the history of Scottish football?

Think about it….in and, out of the Celtic 1st team for what….almost 10 years?….who’s the daftie?

Worst day as a Celtic supporter?…..7/1/1978….ibrox stadium…JRP Gordon day.

Hope LG is fit for Saturday.

If he is fit….play him and, big Ciftci in a 4-4-1-1 set up….or, if you like….Beachball Sunday tactics.

    Stay Safe Celts….Off oot. YNWA.

  11. Morning all.

It’s looking like another lovely day down here. Hope so.

Hope there is good news as regards the fitness of our players coming back from International duty.

For starters,I hear Forrest had stomach muscle problems prior to Sunday. Scotland still took him to Portugal though.

    Doubtful for Saturday.

  13. Kev J- You have some strange enthusiasms. Mark McGhee is replacing Jackie Mac, Lou Mac and , even Jim Mac, as the manager who will show us Ronny is a dud, apparently. I was beginning to think that having a Mac surname was all it took but, then I remembered your advice that we should punt Fraser Forster and buy instead Cammy Bell from Killie and he was very much a No-Mac Keeper.

Here is Mark McGhee’s real record with Motherwell:-

    2007/8- 18 w 4 d 14 l scored 50 conceded 46- finished 3rd

    2008/9- 13 w 9 d 16 l scored 46 conceded 51 finished 7th

The eight teams in the draw will be divided into two groups of seeded and non-seeded teams, based on the latest UEFA national team coefficient rankings. Each fixture will pit a seeded team against a non-seeded team, with the first side drawn to play the first leg at home.

Seeded: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Sweden, Hungary

Unseeded: Denmark, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Slovenia

    When are the play-off ties?

    First legs: 12/13/14 November 2015

    Second legs: 15/16/17 November 2015

So involved we will have Lustig (Sweden) and Johansen (Norway), who looked like he was dragging a milk float behind him last night and whose passing was erratic to say the least

  20. I might be wrong but…was there not an attempt at a ‘set-up’ in one of our previous visits to Fir Park with, fans claiming that there were 1? 2? 3? tickets available for each seat in the section allocated to the Green Brigade, resulting in lots of broken seats?
