Political scammers one and all

Peter Lawwell’s comments on Friday that Celtic receive no support from Glasgow City or Scottish Government circles reflects years of plans being frustrated by incoherent rejections.

Were it not for the Commonwealth Games being hosted in the city in 2014, planning permission to redevelop the area to the front of Celtic Park would continue to be rejected. The reality that the Queen would drive past a derelict former school, with vegetation growing from every nook, was sufficient motivation for the Council to allow Celtic to remove the building and landscape the area.  You have Her Mag. to thank for the Celtic Way.

Celtic would like a fanzone. Somewhere you can congregate before a match, where you might even be able to visit a toilet, but the Council doesn’t want it. Planning permission is sought for the hotel. On the face of it, this is a fantastic initiative for a long-deprived area of the city, the Council should be doing their best to encourage Celtic into spending the money, not looking disinterested.

Then we have the proposed no parking zone, which would see it illegal for you to park within one mile of Celtic Park on match days. Parking would start at the one mile limit, but would surely extend a couple of miles beyond this before we are all accommodated. Public transport to and from the area is vastly under served, there simply isn’t the capacity to cope with many football fans. Your choice will be to walk miles to and from the game, or stop going.

The likely change of administration at the Council, from Labour to SNP isn’t necessarily going to help, either. A councillor from the latter camp raised concerns when Celtic asked for permission to build the Superstore, citing that it could damage trade going to local supermarkets.  This is the environment we have to operate in!

The Scottish Government set their faces to stone on the subject of Celtic when Alex Salmond decided to get involved in Scottish football in 2011, leaving us with the ludicrous Offensive Behaviour’ Act.

The Scottish Parliament voted to repeal this act last year, after countless football fans, and Celtic, campaigned on the issue. However, the will of the Scottish Parliament isn’t always respected by the Scottish Government, who ignored the vote, before setting their 2017 agenda on inducing moral outrage when the will of the Scottish Parliament is ignored.

The irony should be disappointing, but it’s not even surprising. Scammers, one and all.

A reminder that this year’s CQN Open Golf takes place at our usual Aberdour venue on Friday 28 July.  Walk with Shay and the Celtic FC Foundation are our primary beneficiaries.  Costs are £80 for the whole day (including golf) and £45 for evening-only guests.  Applications to cqnopen@gmail.com  .

Seven of us all pensioners all sat in the pub yesterday talking about the ticket price increase and no one seemed bothered or surprised as it was to be expected, there a few in here stirring it, but that’s to be expected, everyone has an opinion, my ticket went up £30 that’s 65p a week shocking eh?

Yep.I hope you are proud of your”I”m all right Jack”attitude. If you put 30p to that you could buy a sausage roll from Greggs.

Have spoken to 4 or 5 ST mates, and not one complaint.Said after the length of time prices had been frozen, was expected. Then again,Brendan Rodgers, vastly improved pay structures, signing better players, new pitches, new indoor pitch, money to improve and renovate Celtic Park footprint seems to cost nothing to some.

  7. Here is how the club announce season book freeze.

EVERYONE at Celtic is delighted that we are on the verge of securing our fifth League title in a row. This is a magnificent achievement and one which we will all enjoy together.

As always, our fans have been fantastic this season and it is crucial we work together again to maintain our position as the dominant force in Scottish football and aim once again to make our mark in European competition.

As we look to 2016/17, the Club is delighted today to announce that it has frozen standard season book prices for next season.

Now, as we look ahead with confidence, we felt it was important to thank our fans again for their continued backing of the club. The price freeze we announce today means that the standard season book will still be £50 cheaper than it was four years ago, offering excellent value to our fans for the forthcoming campaign.

Next season we will again be offering kids’ season books, starting at the fantastic price of just £50 for children aged 12 and under. This will mean kids aged 12 and under will be able to attend 19 matches at just £2.63 per game.

This season book will cover 19 matches and for the first time will guarantee the right to buy tickets for two sell-out games at a concession price.

There are a wide range of other season book packages available and information on these can be found on our season ticket website.

As a thank-you for your continued commitment to supporting the club, there are a number of added value benefits available with a 2016/17 Season Ticket, including:

    – Complimentary match tickets for friends and family

    – A right to buy tickets for European nights in Paradise

    – Exclusive discounts on stadium tours and dining

    – Plus much more!

Here is how the club announces Price hikes.

Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

We build on past successes. We invest in our future.

We walk on together, through thick & thin

And together, we can achieve anything.

We are one team with one vision

    And we’re just getting started

    Tomorrow belongs to us

    Nice eh?

This post was on Saturday morning I think. Absolutely no offence was taken by myself, and more importantly, I hope and trust no offence was taken by Big Jimmy.

I also hope no offence was taken by anybody else in this light-hearted banter. ( Including Lawyers )

Life is too problematic to take offence, especially on this great blog.

    Hail Hail to you.

  11. All this talk of ST increases, and people maybe having to give a loaf of bread,or a pint of milk, has put me right off my Lobster and Champagne. My wife, jackie, just asked me if I wanted a refill,I said,

    “No,I”m all right Jack”.

  12. I sit in ES2 in the main stand, two seats to my left is a retired gentlemen who sits next to his son who is maybe a few years younger than me. Over the last few years his mobility has got steadily worse but rain, hail or shine he gets to Celtic Park for every home game.

He turned up on Saturday with two crutches for the first time, usually he has two sticks, its quite an effort for him to get up the stairs. I was asking him about season ticket prices, he is much more concerned about having to walk at least a mile to get to the stadium, that, he said might be the end of him coming to Celtic Park next season.

There needs to be a solution for those less able, to still follow their club next season, thats where I would put my efforts if I were employed at Celtic.

I think the club accommodate Disabilty ticket holders closer to the ground in their car parks. you should advise your fellow supporter to contact club with regards this. If the supporter you reference does not have a Blue badge then by the sounds of it he should be applying for one to his local council.

  15. Turkeybhoy,

    Hope you are well.

What i suggested is that the ordinary fan / family cannot continually absorb price hikes disproportionately to their disposible income.

Their places may be taken by those who can easily afford the rises, hence the Prawn Sandwich brigade.

    Hail, Hail.

I’ll ask him at the next home game, not sure if he travels with his son and how that might work as he is able bodied for sure.

  17. Excellent article from Paul. We will have to be smarter, on and off the field, than those in the Ibrox constituency in order to see our plans are realised.

PL is being astute in ‘laying down a marker’ well in advance.

Those in power charged with making decisions on our exciting future plans have now been publically put on notice. They will have to explain any and all reservations they have in clear terms.

Celtic has ‘called their bluff’ before they can start bluffing.

I have every confidence that we have the expertise within our board to ensure we are not stymied in our ambition.

  18. Las Vegas is a veritable melting point of curtures, through both traditional immigration and refugee routes.

As an immigrant myself, I count Albanians, Brazilians, Sudanese, Persians, Australians, South Africans and Italians in my circle of friends.

In my work I come into contact with Ethiopians, Sudanese, Iraqis, Palastinians and many others who are all a pleasure to communicate with. I always find the Africans in particular are a joy, and seldom do not have a beaming smile on their coupons.

    I like immigrants.

” How much in your opinion is enough? Is there a limit. ”

In life, if I cannot afford something, I cannot buy it . When I cannot afford a ST, I will not buy one. If I wanted to know why Celtic raised the prices this year, I would email John Paul Taylor.

  24. By definition a politician IS a scammer. They are nothing more than lackey agents of the banking system.

It’s in the job description, and they willingly participate in return for a cozy lifestyle sprinkled with expense accounts and decadent junkets. More power to them in their succulent lifestyles. I couldn’t sleep at night.

Until we redirect our focus to those really responsible and begin to ask the relevant questions of them nothing will change.

In actuality we scam ourselves in our myopia.

Trying to get on here some days is reminiscent of using an old dial up modem. Slow and annoying as hell.

Why does it seem to always come down to the default position of poor pensioners when raising objections to the increase. Tony Donnelly is right when he says the seven pensioners, (including him) he drank with yesterday didn’t bat an eyelid. I know them. None are ‘well off’, all are comfortable enough and can afford cars, holidays, drink, Season books and more. If there are going to be strugglers it’ll be the forty year old guys on below average wages with two or three Celtic mad kids and a mortgage. Everyone I know over 55, and there’s many, is better off (in varying degrees) than they were raising a young family. I get both sides of the argument but the ‘poor pensioner’ bit is well over used.
