Politicians cannot help themselves look down on fans

209

After Celtic fans gathered around Trongate to celebrate the league win on Saturday, first minister Humza Yousaf, took to the media to say, “Clubs can do more, should do more – organise those celebrations, be involved in those celebrations.

“Perhaps they can reflect on what they can do for future years.”

What he is referring to is a fanzone.  An area with facilities, security, opening and closing times and a scheduled tidy-up process.  They exist all over the world, cities across Europe have wallowed in celebration at some local success.  In Glasgow, we are caught between an SNP council, which does not want to give an inch to Celtic, and an SNP first minister, who is happy to be critical of Celtic and Celtic fans, in an attempt to placate the other side of the city, even though he took no time to discover why there was no club organised event.

None of this is anti-Celtic, it is not personal, it is not prejudiced, it is just the result of inept politics and inept politicians.  The city and the country would do better if the Celtic fans on Trongate were in charge of both.

Just remembered Frankfurt celebrating last May!  That’s a city council that knows what it’s doing.

  1. !!BADA BING!! @ 10:14 PM,

Well let’s hope so, that would be great news

And the Board would get a personal apology from me:))))

What a cruel irony if the “special one” is undone by Seville in extra time …or even better penalties ..on the 20th anniversary of a certain final !..,karma ?🤔

You should really try limit your political zeal.

Your shower of fakes just want another chance at shiting and betraying the working class.

You even have the gall to compare and contrast what other countries do culturally to let fans celebrate.

Tell me how many Celebrations where allowed under the fake, expense cancered socialists in the past? – zero. Yup those same socialists who could not follow equality law for 25 odd years and cost £millions when woman in the low pay care sector.

Carry on Paul, was anything done previously re fans celebrating?your wee masonic/orange riddled party

Done zero for over 100+ years except give nods to the mississipi marchin season.

High moral ground from anything labour(that’s the trash you omit in your article) na having none of that.

A few quick points before I head off to bed. Bryan was a Democrat and not a Pop, correct? He got the backing of the Pops due to the fact he was one of the very few (other than the People’s Party) who wanted to come off the gold standard but he ran as the Dems candidate.

If the word didn’t come from the US where did it come from? If it was such a short lived political flash in the pan why was FDR being accused of being one by elites who were terrified that the New Deal would make them poorer and the working class more powerful? Why would MLK be talking about them 60 years later?

‘The dictionary definition of the term is that it refers to a party that claims to represent the interests of the people. Since all of them do, this is a fairly unhelpful term for political analysis. Macron’s Centre-right is a populist party, the Brexit movement is seen as populist and many Nationalist parties claim to represent the views of a (their) people.’

Okay, so the above definition you give would be (as you rightly point out) meaningless as pretty much every party would make that claim. However, that’s not the way it’s used, is it? And it’s not the way that you used it earlier which is what started this exchange. Trump, Corbyn, Putin, Farrage, Johnson, Bernie Sanders etc would be/are called populists (Macron/Biden/Sunak wouldn’t be). Now look at those names – some are obvious conmen/crooks but others are genuine politicians who actually want to improve the lives of the people in their countries. Why would they be lumped together? Who does it help? And what’s so bad about wanting ‘popular’ things anyway like free healthcare or less money spent on the military-industrial complex?

Anyway, off to bed, I’ve enjoyed the conversation, take care.

    Commiserations to Jose Mourinho.

His team mounted wave upon wave of exciting attacking football and played with fantastic spirit and tremendous sportsmanship.

That Lubo was not there, released a year before, dearie me

  15. Why would Ange go to Spurs: MONEY

History of the EPL shows that 50 teams have competed but only 4 (FOUR) have won it more than once. Spurs are nowhere to be seen so that’s a No-Brainer.

Two of the multiple winners were funded by Russian/Arab money.

Fifty clubs have competed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992: forty-eight English and two Welsh clubs. Seven of them have won the title: Manchester United (13), Manchester City (7), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers (1), Leicester City (1) and Liverpool (1).

If Ange stays at CELTIC, by the time he’s 60 he could have 4 attempts at the Champions League or maybe 1 with Spurs

Don’t be silly my favourite Greek/Australian stay in Glasgow.

Celtic PLC give the man a LARGE pay rise/Contract

  16. There is no manager I would rather have than Ange Postecoglou.

This is the words I posted ages ago. It’s still true.

I will be completely devastated if he goes ( Turned off Sly Sports for saying Ange is favourite )

However it’s a testimony to the success of Ange the man and Ange the manager. A virtual unknown when he came to us and now the perceived target of one of the mega bucks clubs who was recently invited into the European super league.

I hope Ange stays, but the riches on offer would tempt anyone.

Sometimes it sucks being next door to the richest league on the planet.

  21. Talking about the deceitful and hypocritical positioning of politicians.

A LEZ takes effect in Glasgow City today that disproportionately hits the poorest.

The Subway has by far the poorest air quality, I don’t see them banning that mode of transport or sticking fares for a single journey @ £18.00.

Many supporters clubs using pre 2015 Diesel buses will stick an extra few quid onto the price

It’s all about money and control.

  27. Imho too much talk of AP leaving I think he will be gone , hope not but he will want to try himself out down south , this will always happen when a good manager is picked up , the only way we could have kept him is if we were allowed entry in England . Presently we are too good for up here , top of the tree but old firm fc will improve at all costs to head us off by fair means or foul make that foul . When he goes he will just be a very good coach among other very good coaches , he will have to mix it against other big clubs where. Failure won’t be tolerated , it’s his call and I may be typing here with my heart but nowhere else he will get the adulation he receives from the Celtic family . Nowhere else will he have a job for keeps like he has here , and nowhere else will he be almost certain of european football , but all those things don’t pay the mortgage and cash may be more important to him . I thought a move was on the cards when DD paid a visit he doesn’t often visits his investment , and he is the guy who decides if we push the boat out to keep us at the top of the tree or not . I hope he stays .

  28. If DD was in Glasgow to get a new contract with Ange over the line then we’ve had several weeks now to prepare and draw up a list of candidates. Even as a contingency this would have had to be done the minute Ange knocked back a contract.

I don’t know what the situation is but I trust we won’t be offering jobs in the showers come Saturday evening.
