Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

And this really is a big story. We understand Charles Green had a light lunch at Ibrox today.

    Incredible stuff.

  3. the good thing is no matter what x-players, jurnos say etc… it will not change a thing for sevco and i would guess actually harms their chances because the more they and cg talk badly about the spl, sfl, sfa and fans of other clubs the more annoying they become

Will dun utd be getting a share of the gate at ayebrokes ?

  5. asonofdan-So Challs refuses tickets for DU Cup tie, thus refusing to support Scottish football and a major sponsor, but is trying to make money via a beamback? Will DU get half the money from Poundland…….. the SFA don’t have the balls to deal with him.

  6. Not wanting to talk about them,, But,i can’t help think that something is in the wind with the regan comments, cg with a proposal and Celtic Hard line approach to them this week. Are we about to get screwed here and the Club know there is nothing we can do about distance ourselves from any “decision” that get made. Also how can they have a proposal when they don’t even have a vote/say on what happens anyway? But I said it last week we need to talk about us, leave them to it. good see Neil impressed with Ozzy Bhoy, Seem’s solid.

  7. Have we ever heard from any of the poor punters who got shafted when the horribles went belly up?

It’s strange that we’ve never heard a peep from those who lost out…just constant whinging about poor old Sevco from every Tom, Dick and Billy in the media. It’s sickening.

  8. if i was thompson, i would not allow t.v screening of games and would demand the sfa take action over sevco’s double standards.

if it was me i would simply say fuck them and if you come after me we can have a discussion about the ongoing joke that is sevco

    no chance

Do they not require permission from the SFA for a (moon)beam-back ………!!??….if they do, and it is refused because they refused their allocation of away tickets, would give greengo another good excuse to excite the rabble, in line with his overall strategy….??

    Hello all,

sorry I’ve not been on for a long time, popped in for a lurk every so often though. Made a wee resolution to get back on in the new year, as I’ve missed the crack.

I hope you’re all well, and I trust all the arguments have stopped now yeah?

Not sure if protocol has changed or not, but historically I would have been called a Hun after such a long period of absence?

  11. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they assisted Arsenal stewards in removing a protest banner being paraded by Manchester City supporters.

Fans in the away section displayed a banner complaining about the much-publicised ticket prices, and when those holding the banner refused to comply with stewards requests to take it down, the police were asked to intervene.

In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: “During the Arsenal v Man City match on Sunday, 13 January, officers assisted stewards at the Emirates Stadium in order to prevent a breach of the peace, after away supporters were asked by stewards to take down a banner.

“Officers spoke to the supporters, who had refused to take down the banner, and then assisted stewards with its removal. No arrests were made.”

Out of interest the banner read ‘£62!! Where will it end?’. A breach of the peace if ever I saw one.

  17. the biggset problem in scottish football is that sevco has been allowed to do and say anything it wants without challenge and without consequences they can say an do as they please, no other any club in scotland would be allowed to acted like this without punishment

if scottish football cannot clamp down on sevco because of fear then we’d be as well just giving them everything they want and moving on

  18. Sonofdan,Thats my sentiments as well. Once the public opinion sways as it will with all this poor us guff, They will do what they want behind closed door. regan respects green on Saturday was the icing for me.

  20. stephbhoy, I think that boats sailed, Fans are the only reason they got punished at all, the sfa,spl did nothing and still don’t.never been condemned. For me they had the choice to clean up the game but decided to back sevco and to hell with everyone else.

  21. It’s a pity that the SFA have no history of breaking their own rules.

If they had, it would make it all the easier to rescind the one where cup tie money is shared.

Ample grounds would be if one club publicly called for it’s supporters to boycott a game.

Thanks for your wee rant. I was starting to think I was the only one getting so frustrated.

There is only one way for Sevco 5088 / Sevco Scotland to gain a semblance of an inkling of an iota of a soupcon of credibilty :

publish accounts for the past 3 years.

Seems quite straight-forward but it would be unchartered territory for Charles Green’s litany of basket-case companies.

  23. sixtaeseven - 4 fouls 4 cards & penalty, a day in the life on

What concerns me is that, with the new setup, there will no longer be an SPL (SPL and SFL with merge into a single entity).

By the time Nimmo Smith delivers his verdict there will no longer be an SPL to implement the punishment (title stripping or whatever).

I think this is one of the reasons they (SFA/SPL/SFL) want to push this thru ASAP.

Also, I think Chuck and Co are aware of this and are sending out all sorts of diversions (12-12-12 being the latest) to take everyone’s eye off the ball.

    It stinks…

Are you saying LNS will drag on the inquiery for 6 months ?

Remember there has to be an SPL at the end of the season to issue the title :o)

  25. @ stoksey10

Looking forward to a little run in tomorrow’s night game, been a long few months out!! Buzzing to be back!

  26. the one telling factor in all of this farce is the sfa,spl

are made up of the clubs so the clubs fear and cowardice is

rife, plus they wheter we like it or not they want them back in

because all they see is money, ask yourself this look what old rangers did and look what chaos sevco are causing and then look what the authorities [which is supposed to be all the other clubs]are doing, not one resignation called for apart from supporters, very telling indeed.

  27. What is World Record for a beam back involving a fourth tier club against a first tier club?

What is World Record for arrests at a beam back involving a fourth tier club against a first tier club?

  28. Regardless of Greens proposals it will take them the same length of time to get back to top flight. At the risk of getting shot I think 3 by 14 team Divisions does make more sense then 12-12-18. In an ideal World 2 by 18 team Divisions would be better still. We would then only have to visit The AsbestosDome once a year and have Celtic Park polluted just once a year when The Tribute team eventually reaches the top flight.

  29. Paul67 et al

Off topic I know, but there are appears to be a backroom attempt to try and shoehorn Colin Montgomerie into leading the Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles next year. That would be at the expense of Paul McGinley, one of his assistants at Celtic Manor back in 2010. Sandy Lyle aside, I cannot think of a better choice than McGinley, and of course it was Monty who deliberately refused to choose Lyle in Wales. Europe’s greatest player Rory McIlroy has voiced his support for McGinley, but there is a suspicion of a stitch-up favouring Montgomerie. Lyle was ignored, of course for calling Monty a cheat, over his play in Jakarta back in 2005, and anyone who watched that tournament, could not fail to agree with him. Montgomery is not only a cheat, he is a boor of the highest order, and only a masonic style deal could give him the Captain’s job again. Let us hear it for McGinley, with Lyle as his Vice-Captain.

  30. GeorgeConnellyCSC on

My understanding is the majority of club chairmen who voted against letting Sevco off the hook, assumed their vote would have been sufficient to trigger the resignations of Doncaster and Regan, as it was surely a tacit vote of no confidence in both of them?

Prior to their involvement in Scottish Football, both men, I have no doubt, would have resigned as a matter of principle, but after a few years of watching the Teflon don (Ogilvie) stay put in the full glare of some eye watering revelations, they thought there was no need.

Also, I’m not convinced there are a majority of SPL clubs who would wish to adjust the status quo at the moment, they will all have a much stronger position when it comes to the final bun fight with Sevco kept at a safe distance. (I would suggest a new 12-12-17-1 setup would provide that safe distance).
