THE ITALIAN VIEW

CELTIC are up against the odds as they prepare for tonight’s Europa League tie against Inter Milan.

Roberto Mancini’s side, after a 3-3 first leg stalemate in Glasgow last week, have discovered a bit of form, winning their last three Serie A games.
Here is how the Italian newspapers view this evening’s confrontation.

‘La Repubblica’ reports that the match will prove something of a pivotal moment for Mancini and his second spell at Inter: ‘The team is yet to find the strength and continuity that Mancini is looking for,’  although the Inter coach insists that his side are relaxed for the visit of Celtic.’

‘Gazzetta Dello Sport’ writes that the Inter Milan manager sees the Europa League clash against Celtic as the perfect opportunity for Mauro Icardi and Mateo Kovacic to prove themselves at this level: Mancini said: ‘Icardi and Kovacic are the future of the team.’

Mancini has also called on his side to keep the ball better in this leg, predicting that Inter will face a degree of “fatigue” having played the two matches so close together..

‘La Stampa’ leads on quotes from Xherdan Shaqiri, in which the Swiss attacker insists Inter are stronger than the Scots they will face at the San Siro. He said: ‘The statistics speak in favour of us against Celtic.’

‘Corriere Dello Sport’ reports that English Premier League scouts will be at the San Siro to watch Icardi against Celtic, just days after Manchester United sent scouts to spy on the striker. They say: ‘United have shown their interest, but Manchester City and Chelsea will also watch the frontman.’
